Squadron 42 (Star Citizen single-player campaign), might be getting a Console port

Unlikely, given the tech at play. XSX and PS5 couldn't run it without major cuts to the systems that make the game remotely interesting.

It's the new kickstarter stretch goal for when they hit a billion in funding.

When the game is actually released we'll be another two or three console gens down the line so it should be fine!

The job description is for a Cinematics Animator and what "working with current and next-gen" consoles meant is that they need the current toolset used by that generation as a baseline. This is a complete nothingburger.

I'm PCMR and I approve.

We already have other typical PC games on console, like MSFS2020. I think it'd be ok. Not everyone has ultra-high-end PCs either. And a port would most likely be for PS6, no?

Star Citizen's systems require a heck of a lot more than MSF2020. For as much shit as is thrown at the game, it is actually trying to do quite a lot. And the current console CPUs just aren't going to cut it as it stands. A PS6 port might happen, sure, but Moore's Law has ended - the jump from PS5 to PS6 isn't going to be particularly large, so I'd wager it'll still have to be pared back.

Most of the important stuff like persistence and meshing is baked into the back end for SC, not sure how much of that is needed for SQ42 anyway. But yeah, perhaps you're right. The engine is heavily dependent on tech outside the cloud as well, and my "old" 5950x is struggling at times.. I guess we'll see what happens. But I mean, if they're looking for console developers...

Oh, I get it. I mean, anything they can do to avoid releasing it. You can't keep crowdfunding going as easily if the game's been released, so you have to continually find ways to push the release off without ever committing to one.

But.but it's the biggest scam in gaming history, and it will never be released.... now they will buy the game and support it with their money.
Lol

So is this just so they can delay a couple of more years? We want to release the pc and console port at the same time, so we are delaying the game for 3 more years, please understand.

keep kickstarter going
To clarify, the SC Kickstarter is inactive. The two games, SC and SQ42, are being crowdfunded via the RSI website.

Oof the Elitists would hate it
Let's hope so. Wanting the best version of something is fine, desperately trying to keep others from having anything at all is not. I have a high-end PC and thousands of dollars worth of simulation gear, but I'd still love to see MSFS2020 on PS5 (f.ex.).

Star Citizen exists too. And you can only pay for it. Not for SQ42.
You're right, I played Star Citizen for three hours last night. Did seven missions successively, dogfights, on-foot missions... Traversal down to- and from, between planets, stations, calling in ships, storing, reviving, server-meshing, persistence... No hiccups, it's pretty damn fantastic considering the history of this project.

Good news. I will try again.

But of course, now that you're trying it, it's all going to go to hell... I'll beg the gods for things to go smoothly for you so there's no blame on me :D

Edit: Anyway, I'd say 4.1.1 is pretty damn good, all things considered. The change in development strategy is working well. I've encountered few issues, even during free-flight; I think I only had to change servers once because the elevators weren't working. And there was one server freeze that resolved itself through the server resume feature. Relatively minimal stuff in my experience. I've played plenty of "released" AAA games with more troubles.

Anyway, I'm off work, and the kids aren't home yet. Just gonna jump into Star Citizen again to swat some bogeys with my new shiny MX :messenger_rocket:👨‍🚀

Update: Did a mistake and got swiftly obliterated... Now floating in space, preparing for death.
