Stainless Studios closes doors

What?! How is possible? but if this studio didn´t seem to have any problem. Rise & Fall looked excelent.

This is horrible, even having behing a big name as Goodman is not enough. For god´s sake, what has done Midway to allow this?

The way I see it, for those nitch PC devs theres just too little of a market for them to survive on. Devs like Valve, Id and Epic have it better though -- not only do thier games sell tons copies, but they can bring in more money from license thier engines and the royalties that comes with it.

In the end, theres no just no room for smaller devs these on either the PC or console.

But take on count that Goodman is a respected person inside the industry, and this company didn´´t lack support, they had Midway behind them.

Even being agree with your vision, this has happened too suddenly. This type of things could be foreseen with companies like Elixir, but I didn´t see any signal of weakness in Stainless Studio.

Given Midway's recent production support history - Gauntlet must be up to at least fifteen sorrows by now - that's possibly the problem right there.

It's crazily sudden, though, you're right.

I don´t want to be unfair with a company, that is because I´m not pointing Midway directly for this as I don´t have any fact yet. But this type of things are quite suspicious, and from experience, this must be because something beyond of "we are broke".

When you spend more than you make, this happens.

Poor choice of product development and lack of a killer game killed Stainless. I love their stuff, Empire Earth is awesome, but honestly, they never came out with that AMAZING title to push themselves into the limelight.

It´s quite unfair to ask every studio to have killer titles. The quality of his games and his ideas were very high and they had a good track. Doing a good job and developing notable titles should be enough.
