Staminate Your PSP - Stamina Battery Pack

Imagine my surprise today while shopping in Target to run across the 2200mAh Stamina Battery Pack for PSP (PSP-280 U).

This bad boy went on sale in Japan a month or so ago to little fanfare, and I just assumed they wouldn't bother here in the states.

But no, they did bother. It comes in gold tone packaging, compared to the gray package of the old battery, and costs $39.99 -- the same price that the old battery did. I wonder if Sony is going to phase out the old 1800mAh battery?

In any event, if you want to add another 45 minutes or so of playtime to your PSP for a rather ridiculous price, you can do so without importing. At least it doesn't stick out of the battery compartment.

I left my PSP on "standby" for a month, before getting GTA LCS. So, my battery is pretty much fucked. I might pick this up.

Just wanted to add to this post with some impressions after a few days of use.

I know Sony's claim is that this battery will give players an average 20% increase in play time, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised to find that I'm exceeding that.

I play Burnout Legends quite frequently, and lately I've been playing Lord of the Rings: Tactics (which does a lot of disc accessing). With the old battery, I'd get just about 2.5 hours of play time with Burnout, and about 3.5 with LOTR. Now, with the 2200mAh battery, I'm consistently getting an extra hour more with Burnout and about 90 minutes more with LOTR. (Yeh, I've been jotting down times just for kicks).

That's 40% more with Burnout and 43% more with LOTR...

I'm sure games clocked to 333MHz would drain it faster. Haven't tried it with WipeOut Pure sped up with Fastloader yet.

Also, arguably my old battery has seen constant use, so perhaps it isn't keeping a charge as well as a brand-new battery would.

Still, good times.

Report to us what you find out about the battery when you play WipeOut Pure.

How can you stand LOTR? I rented it and gave up by the third or fourth battle... ugh horrible.

I saw this same battery at Best Buy. They actually have a HUGE PSP accessory area now.

Time to make a stop on the way home...

Do they have this at EB?

My PSP battery just died today. :(

It won't recharge at all... and it has about 13% more power left.

Dammit. Does leaving it in sleep mode all the time really damage the battery?

When I was at target the other day. I found this little battery, It doubles as a joy stick, It has a fan built on to it(like an airflow controller), a built in speaker(I think) and duel headphone jack. The battery claims you get an extra 8 hours, but I'm sure with all the crap turned on I bet it it doesnt.

I picked it up as a christmas present for myself(hehe), so I'll report back on after christmas if there is still interest.

has anyone else found this battery in a brick and mortar? Because I've had zero luck even finding a Target or Best Buy in my area that knows about it. Much less the so called game specialty shops. I'd really like to replace my battery with this one and keep the original as a travel spare.

Excellent. Thanks. Is there another batt in the works, then? A better one?

probably. this one is better than the original and sort of came out of nowhere. or at least I hear as I can't actually find one offline.

This should come packed with gta.

The batterly life for GTA isn't that bad.

anyone find one of these yet? I'm perplexed that it was found at a Target as no b&m retailer carries them here. And online they are way overpriced at lik-sang or with chinese dealers on eBay.

Odd.

I just picked one up today from Target as well. I've been to Best Buy and some other stores recently but it's the first time I've seen one. Why Target of all places and why such a quiet release? Now to test how substantial the improvement will be, an extra hour would be great.

I'm just curious as to why I haven't seen one of these at the Playstation store in Metreon, they usually have tons of every first-party accessory.

I want to know as well: Leaving your PSP in sleep mode damages the battery? Is this true? Why would that damage it?

Tis true. But I'm not quite sure the mechanics behind it. If you're going to be leaving your PSP off for a while, power down completely.

I saw the new battery in an EB in Brampton on Saturday, but didn't have the cash to pick it up (I had just bought sealed copies of both Rez and SMT: Nocturne at my new favorite small games shop in the same mall; only $120 for both!). I'll likely snag it within the next couple weeks. A nice perk is that it's priced at $39.99 CDN, the same as in the States, despite the exchange rate.
