Star Fox was a really important franchise for Nintendo, hasn't been seen in many years. This is a game you can play in one playthrough, the N64 version is good anyway.

I am bummed it's Star Fox 64 again BUT I really like the added cut-scenes they're including between levels to flesh out the characters and story and the multiplayer looks like it has potential. If they made a good game here, I'll support it even though it isn't the game I wanted, because I care about this IP and want more StarFox.

It is really impressive how many N64 games still play well today. Until recently, I played Mario Kart 64 all the time with family. It is legitimately 90% as good as the most recent games

Having said that, it is quite the slap in the face to consumers to not evolve the gameplay loop in any meaningful way

Can you fly in first person cockpit view without having to use the new mouse gunner control though? or are you forced to use the new mouse gunner control while in cockpit view? anyone knows. Nintendo does not seem to mention this.
