Star Trek 6 is actually a pretty damn good movie.

A great allegory for the end of the cold war, and a fun but a bit obvious mystery. A solid swan song for the OG cast as well. After 5 this was a return to form for the series.

Shape shifter chick and the 2 Kirks. The guys feet with the gravity boots. Chang. Just a fun movie.

Trek GAF prove me wrong.

This was the first Trek movie I ever saw so it's a little closer to me than the others but yeah, fairly solid movie and a great send off for the original cast (Let's ignore Generations).

The mystery plot is fun and the movie itself has aged pretty well, though some of it looks a little on the cheap side. +points for Grandpa Worf.

Star Trek 6 is an absolutely exceptional film. Due to budget constraints, it's a far more character focused piece. To a degree, Trek was always at its best when operating on a budget. Star Trek is not about big flashy space battles and heart-pounding action scenes.

After 5 this was a return to form for the series.
Despite its problems (writer's strike, running out of money, shoddy VFX house standing in for ILM, etc), Star Trek V is a remarkable film. When it gels together, V is peak Star Trek. Trek at its most pure. "Every man hides a secret pain. Share it with me, and gain strength from the sharing." It's a meditation on the nature of pain, on the complexities of religious passion. It's a better version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. For all its issues, I firmly believe it has aged a lot better than people give it credit.

And the campfire scene is one of the most beautiful scenes in all of Star Trek.

Also, it gave us this:

Even trek good, odd treak bad.

Well except when they rolled in the next generation crew, all movies were bad =(

I never understood how a show that had some truly exceptional episodes couldn't manage to make a good movie.

Except for III, as goofy as it is it forms the middle of the "Trilogy" that starts in II and ends in IV.

And First Contact is a great TNG movie.

Insurrection is just a Season 6 two-part episode of the series.

The OP seems surprised but Star Trek VI was always critically well regarded, especially since it came directly after the critically lambasted Star Trek V.

This is news? The wisdom is all the even number original movies are straight up good to great films, while the odd ones are boring to straight up bad, but 3 isn't so bad and 1 has its moments. I think 5 is the only outright turd.

I thought this was a common opinion?

I don't know anybody hating on ST6.

literally shaking irl

I dont know I never watched Star Trek when I was younger. Im watching TOS now, end of Season 1. I started watching the movies a couple years ago. 1 I thought was strnage but kind of good, seemed really classic Sci Fi. 2 was great obviously. 3 seemed kind of average. for 4 it just seemed dumb to me. All these jokes about being out of time and stuff. I dont know I guess you had to watch it at the time it came out.

It’s very fan service on the surface but it’s very character driven. I guess you’d need to be a fan of TOS to get into it.

Adjusted for inflation, it got the largest box office revenue in the franchise and that includes JJ reboot.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I liked Undiscovered Country as well.

I liked all OG and TNG movies except Search for Spock and Nemesis.

I even liked Star Trek V.

As for my favorite, it would probably be Star Trek: The Motion Picture and First Contact.

Yeah, it is a great pairing with Wrath of Khan.

And as an aside, really again highlights what an amazing and dedicated actor Christopher Plummer is. Never phoning that shit in. He was awesome in that role, which was such an insanely different thing from most stuff he'd ever done.

It's written and directed by the same guy who did Wrath of Khan and it widely considered to be one of the best.

The only downside is that Nimoy caught Kim Catrall making nudes on set and destroyed the photos.

I recognise Khan as technically marginally the better movie, but Country resonates with me more as I get older - probably my favourite of the entire run.

Personally I like and would revisit any of the OG movies bar V. Comfort viewing

If you didn't like that version of 4, just be glad Paramount didn't get their way and put Eddie Murphy in it.
