"Not episodic. We're telling stories like a novel." says @BryanFuller

So it's serialized, I guess?
My prediction: every season features a different cast in different time periods with seemingly separate storylines that eventually link up in some sort of way.
I took it to mean a more Game of Thrones style show. Some stuff on a ship, maybe some on a base, maybe some from the perspective of the antagonists; but all interconnected.sounding increasingly like an anthology series to me.
New Series is going to be under immense pressure. If they don't knock it out of the park pretty quickly it will end up like Enterprise where the fan base early and even as the show got better they never came back.
So defo pre-TOS?
Indeed.That is one beautiful ship...
If it is Prime timeline, it is definitely a later Enterprise class ship.

Whats Prime timeline?
Whats Prime timeline?
Prime Timeline is the original shows and movies, the alternate/kelvin timeline is for the new reboot films. But as I said in the other thread assuming the NCC registration is correct and not just a really old ship then this seemingly takes place before TOS, and likely before the timelines split for the new films, so it's technically both.
I assume we'll have slightly better sfx in the actual show? :/
DS9>TNG>ENT>TOS>VOY
That's some Ralph McQuarrie "Phase 2" shit right there.
I don't understand anyone who would say that is disappointinghasn't it already been confirmed to be the new timeline?
EDIT: I see. Disappointing. But it will probably take place pre-TOS/Divergence in the timeline.
This will take place way after the timeline split. The registry of the Kelvin was NCC-0514. The discovery looked to be NCC-1031 so it's a much later vessel.
Admittedly the time split between the Kelvin and the Enterprise would indicate that the Kelvin was an older ship, but at that time Starfleet was pretty wary of keeping ships in service for more than 20-30 years, look at how they wanted to bin the Enterprise even when it was barely more than 20 years old, and they were talking about it as if a ship that old was out of the ordinary.
Looking at the NCC registrations on Memory Alpha there are ships with lower registrations than the Kelvin still hanging about in TOS and the later films. I don't think the NCC is going to help tell us when this is besides being within like 50 years of TOS.
It would be neat if the show was set in a future, like 26th century or something, where the Klingon Empire has finally joined the Federation.I have a theory. Is it possible that this is not a federation ship and it is a combination of an Enterprise class saucer and a Klingon or other tail section?
It looks like a mesh of techs from the Prime verse.

The only thing is that the ship details look newer than pre TOS. The blue glowing deflector dish, the nacelles, I'm just not convinced that it's not at least as new as the Excelsior class.Seeing as how it is NCC-1031 and it's a "new" ship in the series, then this show must take place after Enterprise but before TOS. With that ship registry coupled with the crappy design of the ship it really just has to be placed there.
I hate the look of the ship, but hopefully the show is good enough to make up for it.
They don't start shooting for several months, so I very much doubt anything is final.
Indeed.
TNG-VYG-TOS-DS9-ENT Fact!
Goddamn, every Star Trek thread is ranking
Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but this'll be showing on Netflix for everyone outside of Canada/USA.
http://www.wired.co.uk/article/star-trek-discovery-new-ship-tv-series-nameSource for that? I can't believe they would make us in Canada and USA pay for CBS streaming but let the rest of the world watch it on Netflix. Why can't we get to it on Netflix too?
If true, that really pisses me off.
