Hopefully it's far enough removed from the disney movies that it can work as a stand alone because I currently have no interest in anything star wars related if it's post Return of the Jedi.

According to sources familiar with the game's production, Star Wars: Squadrons is an aerial/space combat game about piloting ships in head-to-head battles. It features a single-player campaign, but the main focus for Squadrons is on the multiplayer. The idea is to get players fighting against each other in team battles featuring iconic Star Wars vessels.

It's being handled by the studio Jade Raymond founded Motive Studios.

What the, did we already know about this game?. This is out of the blue for me, and worryingly so to say its Star Wars.
Expectations are being kept very low.

Please be good. I haven't played a Star Wars game in ages (am still waiting on a discount on Jedi Fallen Order) but perhaps this will be the first to get me really excited. Just make it like Ace Combat 7 but with X-Wings.

Won't knock it until I see it. But that "multiplayer focus" does have me worried.

"We cut the space levels out of Star Wars Battlefront II and made some new scenarios. DLC with be levels from SWBFII added back into the game at a later date" $$$!

So this and Fallen Order 2 are the only star wars games in development right now

Pathetic lmao

Unlikely.

Battlefront 3 is likely in development and really, if they had others, I don't think they'd just tell you in advance all their announcements or something.

Battlefront II already has a fighter squadron mode, but it's not popular. It's going to have to do something different but I can't really see what. In BFII you already have structured targets within each map, you can play offline with bots, play as almost any ship from any trilogy... so what's this going to offer?

They either need to go full flight sim or even more arcade and simplified. Im interested because I like the Rogue Squadron games but I don't think that's what we are getting here.

Fallen Order wasn't bad, not anything ground-breaking, but still not bad, cautiously optimistic for this one.

There are no Sequel Trilogy ships in the key art. It's all GCW era stuff. It has the OT ships + the ones from Rogue One.
Looking at the picture a little harder I'll agree that it seems to be in the OT timeline. I still hold no hope that it will be the the return of the space sim.

Holy shit, VR!

No platforms announced yet though, but that really adds to anything single player. A VR single player campaign feels much longer than a flatscreen game, usually about 2x longer.

Just a heads up.

Jeff Grubb said this was a multiplayer focused title with a very thin single player mode. He said single player is very short and there to essentially just teach you the mechanics for multiplayer.

In other words, suck it you sorry single player gamers! This one's ours!

It's just going to be the space battles ripped straight out of Battlefront2 repackaged and resold isn't it. Lame...

Yuck. There's such a rich legacy to build on and they go and do this...

When I was reading multiplayer focus, that was my worry.
It looks like I don't care. But Rogue Leader on GameCube was so good. I was getting some hope.
