Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

Come on, 2 more people for a 4-pack and it would be great if a guy who lives in US could host it. Way cheaper for me that way.

1. Xyber
2. DarkKyo
3.
4.

until I get it, can I ask if my assumptions are correct:

basically like Terraria except
1. there's less to do on a given planet
2. There's way more variety of planets?

How "big" is a planet normally? And what's up with the asteroid in the video intro thing?

Less?
Have you checked out the game's roadmap or the dev blog?

---
Not sure what asteroid you're talking about, but I know the devs have said you land on asteroids, space debris, and other man-made structures, which will have their own unique dungeons and enemies

Alright, I have like 20 tiers 2 weapons, I think I'll put them in the GAF servers chests once it'll be up, please just take what you need :)

I'm going to remotely shutdown the server at the end of the hour for maintenance. I'll let everyone know when it's back up.

I want a spooky looking world. Dead trees, dark colors. I have the gravestones and occult shit already, but now I need a dark world to put it on. and then I need to rob some Glitches to get the medieval stuff.

I might join the GAF server but I don't put down foundations yet. Still have a shaky internet connection, so I'd rather not commit. I'll visit though!

I can't wait to get home and play again. I hate when this shit is released during the week, but then again, I understand why.

I call shenanigans on things being explored.

The planets appear to be really big. The wiki doesn't give exact numbers, just says that they vary. We do know that the planet terrain loops (instead of having fixed map edges) and the servers allow an "unlimited" number of planets.

The biggest map size in Terraria is 8400x2400. So far on the GAF server starter planet (alpha alpha ant minor?) I think I've covered about 6000 horizontal squares at least. I threw down another 3000-ish single blocks on the super-scientific sky road extending to the east from the starting point and haven't looped around the planet yet. It's in the same ballpark as Terraria Huge at least, something like 10,000 screens worth of planet. I'll be curious to see what the real numbers come out to.

I created my own server, should my friend just be entering my ip address and the pw from the multiplayer screen? He's getting errors.

Probably like Terraria..check the ports. I don't know which one and I haven't set up my own server so can't tell you.

Also I wish for a custimizeable UI and maybe a way to speed up time (but not skip time).

Indeed found it weird when i saw it first from what the hell is this? Then i died.
I saw the same thing or similar, but with the "peckish" message, and I think I starved to death. It would be nice to see hunger and temperature on the state screen whenever you want to check them.

Anyone figure out how to jam with your instruments yet? I know about the .abc files, but I recall reading way back that you could improvise and play music with the keys on your keyboard too.

If you're a sadistic SoB, I suggest you head to X22440236 Y-11802356
Nice little Avian town, you can buy a few things they sell and then slaughter them ALL and steal the really nice housing materials they have. I suggest at least silver armor and steel bow will one shot them!

bwahaha

As an Avian, I am not happy about this mass murdering >:(
Can't you kill some Florans, they are the bad guys in the story.

Those temporary stat boost containers being able to kill you is so cheap. There should be some way to tell whether it's going to be a trap or not. Sucks going all the way towards an edge of a map and then dying because one was poison. I guess it's not worth opening them up at this stage.

I really want to play this - was gonna hold out for the PS4/Vita versions but I don't think I can wait.

My PC is a bit old (it's a HP Pavillion all-in-one PC from 2009) and has never been used for gaming... but I'm assuming it could run this though as it seems very low spec.

Also, I suck at mouse/keyboard gaming, can I plug a DS4 into my PC and play with ease?

Also, would be interested in going in on a 4-pack assuming I can run this.

Yeah I'm definitely getting this game tomorrow

How much will this be on a 4 way pack? Could a us user host the pack while I'm in Europe?

Spoiler Alert: Things I have found on my first 2 travels:

On starter planet :
Badass looking Avian base that gave me tons of pixels and cool looking stuff:
Killed them all
1st Trip:
Avian Merchant village, it was pretty big and looked amazing:
Killed them all
2nd Trip:
Small camps spread out on the surface of what seemed to be Glitch:
Killed them all
3rd Trip:
A full blown human prison:
Killed them all but this time they attacked first, I SWEAR!!!!

Yeah, I kind of laughed, too.

It's like Minecraft - if an area is too crowded you bug out. This game generates new planets for you on the fly, for the most part. If you're crowded, go hit up a random area and find a new planet.

Then invite Gaffer friends to travel there and check out your rad digs! :D

Ok, I'm clearly just bad at this game. How do I make a simple house with a door. I got wood, I got a bunch of blocks, I have a door, and it just won't go on. The block look weird though, they seem to be 2x2 instead of just single bricks.

I'd like to say that I'm cancelling my in on a 4-pack as I just came into some steam wallet cash. I'm gonna buy it on my own I think.

Hold in shift to make single blocks, right click to place backgrounds.

Alright, grabbed a screen shot of my simple little starter house.

I have a list at the top of this page, with you we only need one more. Someone from US that could host the pack unless Dark can do that.

Really loving this game so far, runs great on my crappy laptop, but I ran into a weird bug where all my unrefined wood is not showing up in my inventory. I can craft things out of it, but not put it into my ship for fuel, and coal seems harder to come by than wood. Anybody else have this or is a fix known?

Oh, and Avians for life!

You can run the game on a potato, so specs shouldn't be a problem. The game will get more and more optimized as time goes on as well. I'm not sure the DS4, or any controller for that matter, would be a good alternative to KBM. Starbound doesn't (currently) natively support controllers, so you would need to install a third-party program to use one.

Sooooo I can't even get the game to get past the opening splash screens lol. Suddenly my computer is running like it's got 1 leg, pretty rough atm lol. Gonna restart my computer and hopefully that'll get it running smoother again because it's on struggle street at the moment from trying to launch the game o_O
