Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

Somehow, my starter planet is loaded with silver and iron, even gold and a few patches of diamond relatively close to the surface... but very little coal and even less copper. It's made progression absurdly difficult.

I'm going to try jumping to the nearest planet tomorrow and see what I can dig up. I've got a nice little base of operations set up though, screenshots tomorrow.

I'm having the same issue. In the last ~3 hours I've played, I haven't found a single piece of coal. I can't put down torches so it's very difficult to mine deeper too. I've resorted to taking light decorations into caves with me...

And without any coal, I can't even go to another planet.

Cant seem find iron on my planet since the wipe...have yet to make an anvil at this point. Meanwhile, I'm up to my neck in Copper.

Certain enemy abilities hit for insane damage, especially missiles from the fliers. I've gotten what appears to be the final set of armor in tier 3, and things are still two-shotting me. The only ones doing any reasonable amount of damage are the ones with body slam and charge. Plus it also seems that with armor giving more HP, bandages and beds aren't scaling up to match the higher HP, so it takes longer to heal up per tier. You don't even respawn at full health. Beyond the first boss, the game feels more broken than it did before balance-wise.

There definitely needs to be more coal now that trees can't fuel the ship. That, or it needs to give a higher rate of return. Just the fact that coal is used for torches means that I'm burning through them at a decent pace already. Feels like I'm spending coal to get coal.

I've been trying to find a gun in gamma sector, but no luck yet. I haven't even found a tier 3 melee weapon yet. Tried meleeing the third boss and it just doesn't work. He has a really weird hit box and launches me back every time I get hit.

Same. Ore/Coal seems really unbalanced right now. Near the surface I'm finding some copper, iron, silver, and I even found a few patches of gold but very little coal. Going deeper it gets worse and it seems like the farther I go down, the less ore there is.

My broadsword, oh my precious deeps....is was all good just a few hours ago and now I log in and I am a big weenie! I want my one shot powers back *sob sob* (how will I cheese the ufo boss now?)

--edit --just killed it with my trusty iron bow

I agree with all of this.

After making it to the end game pre-wipe, I'm having a hard time staying interested enough to get there a second time with the content that's in the game. I think I might wait awhile to see how things stabilize.

I got so desperate for coal that I started going into previously explored caves to take down my torches and go to new areas to search for it. Haven't found any.

I don't really want to start over again atm either.

Kimono mod, go!

In this mod I have a regular starter kimono that can be chosen by Hylotl at the character creation screen, as well as a leather kimono that can be crafted by anyone!

As I said previously, I made this kimono to look more like a traditional kimono. There are male/female variants, and I've reanimated part of the bottom so that it opens when you move:

Available here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84806007/Lissar's Kimono Mod.rar

I've also made a collection mod where you can install everything I've made so far all at once without worrying about how to make each of my mods compatible with each other (though you'll still run into problems if you try to install many mods that edit player.config or .species files).

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84806007/Lissar's Mod Collection.rar

All you have to do is extract the LissarsMod folder to your mods folder, edit boostrap.config and you're done!

(You too can huddle in a dirt hut on an alien planet with these mods!)

And here are the other two I've done as separate files:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84806007/Lissar's Mod-nado! (Xenoblade Monado Mod).rar

If there are ANY problems, please tell me. I want to be able to fix them!

I've been mining horizontally just under the surface and using the pick axe's right click to create light windows by mining out the background.

Started a new bird tonight. Exploring the homeword and I found 2 techs, an acoustic guitar, fairy wings, and a seemingly quaint Glitch farming village. Not sure why such a village needs 3 different weapon smiths and a few armories stocked with guards, but they'll soon be crushed under my cute yellow talons all the same. *chirp* raze-n-plunder *chirp chirp*

p.s. birds of war 4 lyf

Does anyone else's client take a really long time to start?

- The launcher takes roughly 20 seconds to open from Steam.
- Clicking non-OpenGL Play button seems to have no effect.
- After a good couple of minutes the Loading screen appears.
- After another 2-3 minutes the main menu appears.

I thought it was hanging when I first tried, but found I could play with patience.
Is this normal for the beta? If anyone else has experienced it or knows a way to improve load times, please share your wisdom.

Yeah, after the Chucklefish logo it takes a few minutes for the main menu to appear for me.

Anyone else having a hell of a time getting the superior brain?

Looks like they forgot to fix how the brain extractor works, so even though I'm fighting tier 2 enemies they're only level 2 and as such have an incredibly low superior brain drop rate (in the original beta version monsters from about level 6+ had a good drop rate)

Played 30 min yesterday before the hotfix:

Found a kind of robot base with some purple robots(not glitch) and every one of them droped a OP weapon (from 9 DPS of my starter weapon to 66 DPS) that could one shot everything, even a miniboss which droped a "Legendary" that was far more weaker than those weapons the robots droped.

Did the hotfix fix this? It kind of ruined exploration for me.

I just ran around the gaf server killing monsters till a superior brain dropped. Super easy since it's an alpha sector world lol.

One thing they should do is make it possible to save to Steam Cloud so you can progress from any computer without the hassle of bring save file and whatnot.

Would that be feasible for a game like this?

I could see being able to save your character to steam cloud, but once you've done a fair bit of exploring I'd think the universe data would be too big to conveniently upload/download?

Should be if the Steam Cloud just treats saves as generic data. The bigger worry would be the size of the universe file.

You have to add recipes to the blueprint section in player.config to get them to show up in the game. If you are using any of my mods through the mod folder then it's likely the player.config you need to edit is located there. (I've often had problems forgetting about editing that file, so I'm just guessing this might be the problem!)

edit: I see you figured that out. I've gotten the perfectly generic item a couple times. It's generating that because without it the game would crash. There might be an error in your code somewhere, though I think things like forgotten commas won't even allow the game to start up. Still, it's worth going over your code with a fine tooth comb a few times.

Maybe check your projectile code again? And what do you mean by being a .png? (Of course, the only time I've worked with projectiles was getting RID of a projectile on something I needed for the Monado).

I hope your wife is okay!

She is just getting medicine. Browsing on the side of the road as I wait for her. I am asking why did my weapon turn out like that? All I did was make the revolver pink. Im using an already existing projectile type too.

I beat the big monster via cheese methods. It dropped an interesting weapon. The DPS and swing are low, but it poisons the enemy. Good for fast ones or those with erratic movement.

You might not have linked up the code correctly in the code for the gun. Code needs to be absolutely perfect for it to work!

As for the image, it depends on what program you were using and what you did. Looks like you put a pink filter on it but didn't it didn't save it as transparent.
