Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

There is no guarantee that will work. I lost all my stuff (including 54,000 pixels) from my ship and lost my home base too. All I have left is what my character was carrying. Thankfully I still have the diamond drill so getting things back up and running isn't too problematic.

Hey CC, you aren't building huge glass domes in Starbound, are you?

Yeah, you probably are... :D

:-p I keep getting tempted to do Dome City in Starbound, but these wipes keep putting me off. Once things are a bit more stable I shall erect a 2D Dome City unlike the world has ever seen.

At the moment my humble abode is just pretty much a hole in the ground. But yeah I am itching to do Domed world. Just have to wait for all these wipes to come to an end.

I have seen a comment elsewhere form someone about this wipe that doing offline mode first and filling your personal inventory will work.

Was hoping one of you gents who frequents the official forums might be able to answer these two questions.

1. Did they give any indication that planets/ships would be wiped this time? I'd like to be able to store my musical instruments in a safe location, but it seems like every patch they're spinning a roulette wheel for what gets wiped. Honestly at this point ALL I care about preserving is my unique clothing and instruments. Everything else i'm fine with being wiped.

2. Does anyone know if we NEED to make a new character to access the new craftables? I'm currently going through fighting the old bosses to remake my crafting stations and refreshing my starmaps along the way. Is this enough?

1) I'm not sure about on the forums(I don't spend enough time there to know), but it was stated during a dev stream that universes would be wiped(and that was posted here as well). It was also discussed in IRC. The way worlds are stored was changed, so the files are incompatible. A full wipe will be coming eventually to lock in a new system which will hopefully mean no more required wipes in the future. Since it will be a full wipe, nothing will be safe from it, and we're not sure exactly when it'll happen. They do want to get it done soon, though.

2) You should be fine on the recipe end by just re-using the starmaps.

All my stuff was stored on my ship at the time of update, so I figured I'd just start a new character. Got placed here:

4FFE4CA12E31CE423F012776F87F7642C2EA698E

The gravity is lower than I'm used to, so jumping is a little weirder.

EDIT: Apparently there are flags now. Cool.

Ah, my universe got wiped as well. I had most of my good stuff in my inventory, but I think I'm just going to start from scratch instead. It's beta, I want to see how progression has been affected.

From ashes to glory it is!

So I start a new game after the patch tonight, this time an Avian. Upon beaming down to my starting planet, I'm greeted by this view:

It's some huge temple filled with purple sword toting bad guys who attack me on sight. And the gravity is so light that I can jump like three times higher than normal, lol. Very floaty too. I go down a few levels into the temple and am greeted by this:

The entire temple is filled with dozens of pixel jars, after like ten minutes I have over 1000 pixels already, lol.

Good starting spot.

I found that temple last night too. If I recall correctly it had a rare
matter block generator
in addition to some lava death pits and all the bottles + diamonds you could break.

Also there are a few additional pixels if you
fly left and right from the top of the base
.

My newest character's warp point resulted in them inheriting an avian hut. The bird brain opened the door in the middle of the night only to get chased out by some monster that led him straight into a pool of poison.

Is there a reason to go to anything beyond alpha if you're just looking for bases and decorations?

I feel like aside from tech and upgrades, you can find all base types in Alpha.

I haven't looked into dungeon generation enough to say whether or not they can all generate on Alpha planets or not. I know there are "microdungeons" that can be biome specific, but I think those are generally just terrain styles.

There are the minibiomes in non-alpha planet types, though. Since some minibiomes have special furniture sets you can find blueprints for, you may want to venture out in hopes of finding those if you're hunting decorations.

I found a set of Mushroom furniture blueprints in Beta sector yesterday. Rather unsurprisingly in a village of friendly mushroom men :)

PSA: I've found when I put chests on my ship, and fill them ( or not) when I turn the game off and come back that my stuff is gone and replaced with other random stuff.

I got two bonehammers out of that. Weird bug. Only seems to effect high-tech chests on mine. I haven't seen it happen with regular ones

Reset as in planets reset and you can find surface resources or reset as in everything on it is gone but the surface has still been stripped so newer characters have to dig?

Ha, wow. Found myself in that same temple when my friend and I warped to a random planet. The real treat was finding a scientist outfit in one of the cabinets.

Now I just need to find some glasses and my avatar will directly reflect my Starbound character.

been a few weeks since i last played
does anyone's racial armor work? i'm hyotl, had made all the puddle set, for some reason i still can't breath underwater?
edit: oh yeah, found a wizard set and a magic scroll i can wear on my back, anybody knows if the scroll can do anything or just for looks?
if it does nothing then i'll just go back to my puddle set

Only if you make sure to put on your robe and wizard hat...
