I happend to buy this game with the thought that it can't be that bad. Oh boy, how wrong I was. wtf Namco? It seems like this game was rushed like hell and I can't believe it took 2.5 years to release it.

FOX I SENT YOU A LANDMASTER!

*walk towards landmaster*

FOX I SENT YOU A LANDMASTER!

stfu peppy.

DESTROY THE TARGETS FOX!

*after destroying the targets*

DESTROY THE TARGETS AGAIN FOX!

*grrrrr*

I have only played 3-4 missions, but damn, something is very wrong here. Even Starfox Adventures is better. I used to love these series :(

I rented this a few weeks ago - WHAT A LET DOWN. I expected a lot better from Namco and a Nintendo license.

The tank and foot missions felt like a second rate game - no love was put into this at all imo. They should have stuck to all flying levels.

Below average at best.

This is one of the GC's most disappointing games for me -- not even because it's that bad, but because Starfox 64 and the original Starfox were just so damn good. At the beginning of the GC's life, this game was probably in my top three most anticipated first-party titles.

What a god damned shame.

More like 3 years, Santacruzer. Considering SF64 was arguably the best N64 game, this is a huge letdown. Next Game in the series'd better be Nintendo developed and Shigeru Miyamoto produced. F U Namco.

totally. who thought of the foot missions should get his nuts cut off and fed to german shepard dogs. damn testicles.

next star fox should be must be developed by no one but nintendo internally. Ace combat team my foot.
:lol

shrug. i thought it was surprisingly decent, though obviously it should have been a pure rail shooter. the on-foot levels are moderately entertaining if you use the dual analog controls and stay out of the tank; i like how quickly fox moves. the music is nice too. i wouldn't buy it, but i'm glad i rented it.

I agree with drohne's sentiments. The game is more or less average.

I hope Nintendo has really expanded their development houses for the next generation. With the exception of F-Zero GX, none of the outsourced games were as good as they could be. EAD should take back 1080 and Star Fox (especially Star Fox since now we are going 0-2 on the franchise this gen--it should never leave EAD's hands again.)

is there a way to just play the flying stages?

You can play the game with a stage select option, but it won't do you much good. The ground missions outnumber flight-only missions by a huge factor, and some stages are a mix of ground and flight. There's no way to escape it.

I think I'm beginning to agree with someone elses theory about this game having started out as something else before it became a Star Fox game ( which is not unlike how Star Fox Adventures came into being.)

Just goes to show how difficult the Ace Combat games are to make. Some pretty pictures of earth converted to textures combined with a jet plane model, ect.

just to make you feel better, it looks better than anything on PC or Xbox (Konami Air Force Delta game). Not to mention it plays and sounds great.

Not many people are going to agree with that
Naw, I do. At least Adventures was a gorgeous game with great atmosphere and music. Assault definitely feels rushed (odd, since it's been in development before Adventures was out), and is very short (with only 3 flight missions WTF). Though it did have good music and had (IMO) Slippy's best voice of the three.

all the goodness went into Ace Combat 5 - none left for StarFox Assault

THANK GOD! :lol
Seriously, WTF.

Although, I think there was already an Assault bashing thread awhile ago.

How disappointing.

One of the few 'classic' SNES series to get a decent GC addition was F-Zero. No Pilotwings, lackluster StarFox games, no Mother 3 for GC, no new Nintendo SimCity :D , No GC Punch-Out, and.... Super Mario SUNSHINE? Give me a break.

But it's ok... GC has Resident Evil 4 and soon to have Lord of the Zeldas.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here who thought Starfox Assault was decent. Nothing amazing, but fun while it lasted. For me, that's enough to make a game worth playing.
