Starfox HP is Open

"Thanks a lot Fox!"

This looks weak, almost first-gen. While playing it, I suspect, many will wish Nintendo had a clue about online gaming.

It's alright, but again underwhelming. NST needs some serious help with presentation, all their games play decently but are just missing something compared to the originals. They seriously need some quality graphic designers too. Wave Race BS really should've been a 60 fps visual spectacle, same for 1080 Avalanche.... in the end both games looked average at best.

NST's the crappest dev team they have. Nintendo should have kept the much better Left Field (Excite bike 64!!) and disbanded NST. All their games are average at the very best; ridge racer, 1080 av and wave race bs.

Had development continued at Left Field im sure 1080 av would have turned out a better game.

Actually, I believe that Nintendo does consider Starfox 64 to be a remake of, and not a sequel to Starfox SNES. I don't have a link to the interview where it's discussed, however.

As to Starfox Assault. Man, I hope it's pure sex. I think it could be. Namco has been on a f-cking ROLL recently, and I've yet to be disappointed with Nintendo's other collaborations with the third parties.

I think what gets to a lot of us is that SF Assault was officially unveiled way too early, and thus it feels like it's been dragging forever now.

I have high hopes for this game seeing as how it's being done by Namco's Ace Combat team. The thing that I really want to see in this one is a good mix of levels where you are required to switch between all three modes of travel to complete the mission. Of course, I want all Arwing levels as well. Also, would it kill Nintendo to put SF64 on a disc and give it away as a preorder bonus?

Namco's arwing definetly >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rare's arwing

StarFox 64 was my absolute favourite game last gen, so to say I'm anticipating this is an understatement. Please let it be damn good!!

Would you like it if Nintendo were to put SF64 on a disc and give it away as a preoder bonus? It would really help boost sales. That's how WW got it's preorder records.

Absolutely. But, the Zelda franchise is much, much bigger than the StarFox franchise, so I don't know how much this bonus would help. Now, include a playable Zelda Next demo, then we'll talk. :)

Star Fox 64 has to be a remake of Star Fox, at the very least in story. The original is completely ignored in 64.

And Star Fox 1 being mature, granduer and a "space opera"? Oh come on....that is some major hyperbole. Actually as far as kiddy stuff goes, I always thought SF64 had a pretty good story. It's much more cinematic than the original.

And I'm playing 64 right now. It rules.

It couldn't hurt. Nintendo really needs to start doing more things like this. The WW bonus helped to boost preorders, and doing this for Star Fox Assualt would easily get more people noticed. I can just imagine the advertising campaign now.

Hmmm..

They should have Peppy turn heel, man. It would be up there with.......

(SPOILER FOR MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE MOVIE!!!)

Mr. Phelps going heel. Like seriously... Where did THAT come from?!

Peppy gets all angry and starts plugging the Playboy channel and shit. It's the image Nintendo wants just before they head into the next gen.

Off topic, anyone else see Peppy as a Jim Ross with long ears and fur?

"Mah God, Fox!!! Get this guy off me and split him in two... MAH GOD, FOX!"

What have they done to Falco? Man he looks gay. His body proportions seem way out too. I'd much rather them do a higher poly version (obviously) of the N64 one. That sort of style.

Fox looks ok but still not as good as the in-game model of Fox in SFA!!

Oh well at least the gameplay SHOULD be good..

True

This looks so much better than StarFox Adventures. Most of the on foot stuff I've seen seems to take place in multiplayer, although I have seen one video of it at fullscreen. There are bound to be one player landmaster tank mission(s) somewhere in there... but as long as there's lots of vehicular stuff, this should rock!

I've been loving Panzer Dragoon Orta recently, I'm ready for another 3d flight shooter thingy!

It kinda sucks that EAD themselves don't do many "arcadey" type games anymore.

F-Zero X, 1080, Star Fox 64, and Wave Race 64 I thought were all great on the N64.

Mario Kart: DD. No game is better suited for the arcade.

What's wrong with him looking gay? Is it wrong for one of the SF team to have an alternative lifestyle? I like the new design. The Smash Bros. version looks like a Disney World reject.

and yet they've been like this since day 1 back on the super nes :P

He's a gamer on the Internet. He's required to post things like that at least once a day or he'll lose rank points and possibly level down.

Namcos designs might not be immediately likable, but I find they have more character than the Rare ones. A bit like Mark Hamill looks like a dweeb the first time you see him, but his looks grow on you the more you learn about Luke...

This is another waning Franchise for Nintendo.

Star Fox was something sacred back in 1993 when I first played it. It was grand, epic, and just an amazing piece of technology. Of course my dad comment the polygon ships looked like paper airplanes, and I suppose they did, but for a 13 year old, it was magic.

Star Fox 64 was good, but lacked the granduer of the original. The soundtrack stunk.

Then SF Adventures happened.

This one looks to make it even worse. The graphics are mediocre, and it's not a straight shoot em up. WTF!

Maybe it's because I never played SF back in 1993, but it was not that great. After SF64, the graphics are pretty bad (good on SNES), and the control scheme is a lot harder to get used to. SF64 has much more replay value as well (save function helps). SF just seems bare bones compared to SF64- because it is.

How are the control schemes different?

The only things better in SF64 are the graphics and the two tank levels. Those stupid free roaming levels should have been left off.

the controls felt "sluggish" because the orginal SF was running at 12 frames per second.

SF64 was basically an expanded remake of the original, which leaves little need to play the original except for nostalgia.

I'm very excited about SF:A (not SFA). I have a ton of faith in Namco's Aces team.

Hmm. Star Fox Assault seems to mix things up a bit. Apparently, Andross is dead, and his nephew Andrew Oikonny takes control of his uncle's technology and ambitions... only to get defeated early on by an invading insectoid race called the Aparoids. They, apparently, are Star Fox's true enemy in this game. Hmm.

"A damaged wing or hull brings you one step closer to defeat." Does this mean they're bringing back vehicular damage from the SNES original?

Arwing missions will be both on rail and more free form. Charged shots will allow a lock on and release a flurry of lasers, apparently.

The traitor, Pigma Dengar and the rest of Team Wolf are back.

It's not so much that I think his design sucks, its the fact it totally clashes with his long established personality of being a smart arse and sarcastic all the time. I don't see that in his new design at all.

Don't know many homos I take it?

I didn't actually mean literally "gay". I used the term in the wrong context. I don't want ppl starting a big arguement with me over homosexuallity or something :P

Like I said originally his "look" and the proportions of his body are very different from the original design of him and I don't like it. He just doesn't come across as the character that we all know and love.

Frankly, I miss the stuffed animal look of the characters from the artwork included in the manual of the SNES original.

Was BS when they said Ace Combat team was making this? Ace Combat 5 came recently and StarFox was announced 3 years.

The game looks uninteresting to me. The art is pretty bad. (There's a preview in NP this month.)

Not only was Star Wolf really cool. But he had some of the greatest music in a soundtrack that otherwise paled when compared to the original.

There was vehicle damage in SF64 (Arwing only).
