Stargate - We're missing a decent title

Probably not the best of titles but I'll run with it.

We've had some fantastic games from Star Wars and Star Trek. Some that have done the whole universe justice.

I've recently started watching stargate again but there's no good stargate games out.

I vaguely remember an MMO they were considering making but got cancelled early enough.

Basically I want a stargate game and needed to moan about the lack of games

Stargate is a solid concept. There's 3 different narratives to take inspiration from or even base a game within (SG-1, Atlantis, Universe). Yet no game that really stands out has ever been made and with the current state of the intellectual property of Stargate I don't think it ever will. Fingers crossed though, for one day.

We almost had one. SG1 The Alliance looked pretty damn good at the time. I was so crushed when that game got cancelled. Of all the cancelled games in the world, this is the one I would choose to revive if I could.

That might be the one I was remembering. Saw early footage of it. FPS type game.

Would be a great universe to exploit. Has a ton of potential and they could go any direction really

I'd like to think Out There and, to a lesser extent, FTL are good proxies for Universe.

But yeah, outside of those cancelled titles - OG Xbox had one, IIRC - nadda beyond...a 16bit platformer?

Currently re watching all of SG-1.
Would have loved a game back in the day

Can't see it happening now unless we get a reboot

The irony is that an alpha/beta build is out there and works, but no one can complete it without either burning a lot of bridges, potentially getting fired, or getting sued.

This thread makes me sad that nothing is even happening with the Stargate Franchise :(
Well, there was that TellTale knock off Stargate game a few years back that got near zero attention...

Honestly, the best hope for anything Stargate related anytime soon is a mod for XCOM2.

I've been rewatching it on Netflix for the last few weeks. Really love Stargate.

The MMO getting cancelled doesn't really bother me because it didn't seem like it was going to be any good anyways. Would be nice to have some kind of game based on Stargate though. A shooter would obviously work well, or I'd love to see an Xcom style Stargate game.

Isn't it getting rebooted soon though? I supposes there's some potential for a game if the reboot is successful, but then it wouldn't be the Stargate we know and love anymore :(

You could create a really good squad based shooter in the Stargate universe.

A new SG team comprised of ex military staff from different nations and an offworlder are tasked with eliminating a new threat. An ancient Goa'uld living inside a Wraith. You venture from SGC to Atlantis joining other famous SG teams on incursions and peace keeping missions gone wrong tracking down the hybrid until finally tracking it to a planet and following it into a stargate and ending up on another destiny class ship as far out as the destiny but in a different direction. Beat the hybrid and end up stuck on the ship out of reach of humanity. Cue Credits. Post credits the gate on the ship activates.

FPS
Squad commands
Optional mission order
Loadout system
Lots of cameos and famous faces / voices

It sucks but it's way too late for the I.p. to be worth making a game out of now. If they did it's probably be in the reboot they're doing that no-one asked for rather than the world of sg1 or SGA.

Yeah that's the problem with it alright my only hope was about universe being what 5 years old. A decent reboot, game to boot. Could revive the whole series hopefully.

Loved the show. Want a game. Need a new series ha

Am I the only one who liked Universe?

But yes OP, agreed. It lends itself to a game quite well. Probably better just as mods though. I'd love one for Arma.

There's a dude here who bought a copy of the cancelled FPS that they advertised in the show itself and put up his playthrough of the game. It looked fairly complete, at least in terms of the story, but for whatever reason it was never released.

Mass Effect style game in Stargate universe *drools*

Cool to see so many people have been rewatching SG. My parents started recently and I sat in for a few. Been thinking about making a game for it in UE4 since it's a free engine now lol

Am I the only one who liked Universe?
No, but a lot of people hated it for pretty valid reasons (the writers not even bothering to setup the soft reboot, the fact that most of the characters except Rush were useless/incompetent/annoying, the reset buttons, the creepy stone sex thing, killing the likable guest female characters...).

A No Man's Sky knockoff would be kind of cool too, but you'd definitely need something like a Puddle Jumper to make exploring whole worlds more practical.

Also there is some Crysis mod someone made. Would link but I'm on mobile. It looked decent but I believe it was pretty short.

Stargate Unleashed! That was the Android/iOS game!

It was an episodic game with 2 episodes released, though I'm not sure if it was ever actually finished or not. And it's no longer available either.

Universe had so many good new ideas , after atlantis it seemed like it could add so much to the franchise.. the way it ended hurt even more :(

There was a pretty terrible TPS game that got canned and removed from steam.
Game was called Stargate Resistance.

Sadly all the props, including the stargate itself has been sold off so a new show in the same setting is unlikely. They did announce a new movie trilogy that is a re-imagening of the original movie and have nothing to do with any of the tv series. This was in 2014 though and I've heard nothing since.

Eh... not really? A lot of the ideas/concepts aside from cool stuff like the diving into the sun stuff and use of real science felt like rehashes of Atlantis ideas or were really dumb in the context of a series (the whole "god signal" thing that could've easily been an artifact of the Big Bang).

Am I the only one who liked Universe?

Nope!

I thought it took a while to find its feet, but really started getting interesting in Season 2. Then it stopped.

I actually thought the ending was quite fitting. It's a shame we never got that "uber movie" that would have tied SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe all together.

For those that want more Stargate, I recommend the audiobooks by Big Finish. They get quite a few original cast members to reprise their roles (though usually not all at the same time unfortunately).

The SNES/Genesis game was good

It definitely looked/controlled pretty well. I never got too far into it though.

Wait, where we can watch this gameplay?

I've been slowly recording footage of the Alliance. I've had access to it a few years now, didn't buy it otherwise it would be on the net already.

There is some other, crappier footage out there, but this is about as good as it gets.

The game really isn't even an alpha, there are entire levels that weren't even developed at the time. The game crashes, a lot, taking me hours to finish some levels that would take a fraction of that.

The PC build is the start of the show. The Xbox build is far chopped up and really not good. The PS2 build was basically a publisher request and was never going to happen.

Hah, for whatever reason I seemed to remember it being more complete than it was then. Maybe I was just surprised that some of VO was in the game and that remained in my memory.

Hard to imagine that it has been 10 years since it was canned.
Yeah, there's a little bit of nostalgia here. I didn't remember this game existed until this thread and it's fun watching some of your videos again.

I almost want to rewatch that episode that featured the game (at least I assumed they were using the same assets anyway).

yeh i was heavily following it back in the day, was shocked it got cancelled.

Yep, at the end it gave credit to Perception.

I disabled the older 720p videos so I can have all of these up in 1080p. Up to another difficult level to record though.

I liked Unleashed Episode 1 for what it was. Too bad the dev went bankrupt and we never got the rest of it(well iOS got episode 2).
