State senator tries to get Florida's FEMA Dir to say "climate change"

It's actually more sad than funny that it's come to the point where one has to trick someone into using words that describe actual factual scientific phenomenon.

I wish I could find the humor in this.

Maybe if it was a skit on some variety show and not in actual day to day government business.

I didn't expect this to be as bad as it was. But wow. Okay. That was horrendous and I feel sorry for the FEMA director who realized how obviously ridiculous this whole thing was.

Can we get a real Democrat to run for governor next time? Preferably one who can win?

WOW so so so sad, not even remotely funny (sure the moment itself is) but the entire thing is so bad.

Just the fact that they are still discussing climate change is such a way and instate of doing something real about it, makes it all the more sad.

The only thing they would ever understand and maybe do something about it if the entire city that they live in becomes the ocean.

I can't believe there will be no consequences for all of the corrupt slime who have slowed our response to climate change. I wonder how future generations will view shit like this.

Can a democrat win in Florida with Obama pushing to normalize relations with Cuba? How strong is the anti Castro faction in Florida?

Unfortunately, our gubernatorial elections are in midterm years. Makes it tough. We've had a Republican as governor since the 1998 elections.

Isn't this the very definition of government censorship. I mean it's ridiculous. Even if the idiots didn't believe it was real they still can't even fucking talk about it. This was in relation to a federal government directive and they have to do a dog and pony show for what the state is going to do.

Crist WON Cubans against Scott and he brought up normalizing relationships well before Obama did.

The Democrats in Florida just suck. There's zero good candidates.

You have to laugh at the absurdity because it's the only thing you can do to keep from crying. I was chuckling while a single tear rolled down my face.

Could someone explain to me how Rick Scott banning this is even remotely legal? I'm not American at all but isn't this government-mandated censorship and thus illegal? Maybe I'm just over thinking this.
Heck it's not even mandated by the government, but by him.

Well Scott as governor is part of the government. And illegal? Probably yes. While a government employee there are still free speech rights and I'd hope this would fall under that.

Will he be sued over it by an employee that is punished for ignoring the directive? Who knows.

A government official can do a lot of things. The question is will someone challenge him on it and assert their rights.

The ban wouldn't be "official" and I can only imagine it involves his appointed cronies and the people that are employed under them.

It is just astounding.

This is really just an issue of general scientific consensus against an industry and few quacks they've found. There is no real dispute here, just manufactured doubt.

Is there no shame?

Yup. It's really too bad that most swing states have gubernatorial elections in midterm years.

They fought to keep lead in gasoline, directly poisoning children for decades. There is no shame. I'm just surprised how effective they still are.

They all know the facts, but the oil companies pay good money so...

I was born so far into the 20th century I had no idea this happened until I watched Cosmos. Disgusting. I have so much respect for that one scientist who put his life on the line to push congress to finally act.

And thanks for answering my earlier question, I'd read ridiculous things like him firing someone over saying it so I assumed he'd officiated it somehow.

Wow, I thought they were die-hard against it. Shows how little I know about Florida politics.

I love the derisive laugh. Insane that a FEMA director isn't allowed to discuss climate change, like, literally insane.

Heck it's not even mandated by the government, but by him.

He is barring any state workers from saying the words "Climate Change", and has jumped though a bunch of hoops to make sure it isn't documented.

To be honest, it likely is illegal, but takes times for this stuff to get though the system.

The last poll I saw had more than 60% of Floridians supporting normalizing relations. And Floridians supported it more than the entire US did.
