A few jokes at the start were funny but now its just a race to the latest fake image from a joke twitter/fb account.

It's getting harder to laugh at these after reading how fucked some of the nearby towns are due to the development.

While defending Sochi's ability to accommodate guests for the Winter Olympics this week, a Russian official on Thursday revealed that some of the city's hotels are apparently equipped with surveillance cameras in the bathrooms.

"We have surveillance video from the hotels that shows people turn on the shower, direct the nozzle at the wall and then leave the room for the whole day," said Dmitry Kozak, the deputy prime minister in charge of Olympic preparation, claiming that Western guests have been trying to sabotage the event.

Well to be fair the area around Ibrox ain't exactly the ritz either :) but I think only the Calton can match the East end in the whole 'dangerous squalor' stakes.

To be fair they've done a pretty good job with the velodrome and the athletes village which looks like it'll turn into good quality housing. Celtic park isn't the prettiest stadium in the world but it looks like they're going to pretty up the approach to it and clean it up for the opening ceremony. The only thing I think might hurt the Commonwealth games is the fact that hampden is possibly the worst stadium in the world. It's relatively modern but seems to suck the soul out of any event there. I've seen Bruce Springsteen and U2 just die there nevermind a succession of shitty football matches.

For winter, add France, Italy, Switzerland. The Alps are just the best place in the world for skiing.

I lived in Cessnock once. It reinforced my decision to always live north of the Clyde when in Glasgow.

I wish I could be in Glasgow for the games. But at this rate I'll be lucky to be home to vote in September.

Yep. half the world is primed to confirm a specific meme-based bias. Doesn't mean Russia doesn't have disturbing problems or that sochi isn't a potemkin village but confirmation bias is on display and probably looks like pure jingoism to Russians.

Agreed! Canada sucks at the Summer Olympics anyways but are good at the Winter. We are a winter country so give Canada more Winter Olympics.

It's been answered in the thread already that Russia uses it as short hand for "in assortment". So "an assortment of" cakes etc.

A lot of these language based pictures are just lost in translation.

That's my point. He's saying the olympics should rotate between those countries... like they're superior.

Honestly, I could do without the USA hosting it, so we can do without the world having it beaten down their throats.

Here is the story about schools sport teacher that came to take her husband away from his friend where they were drinking, but stayed there to drink too. When this friend got enough of that company and tried to get rid of her, she stabbed him with a knife.

Or these story about two local artists, whose friend was brought for whatever reason to the first aid station. To make fun of him they just called to police and said the the station has the explosive planted. Police didn't really appreciate the joke, especially considering that the temp outside is -50. :)
