I'm not talking aesthetically here. Trackpads look gimmicky, the placement of the face buttons doesn't look right and it's proprietary to Steam.

Gimmicky is such an easy word to use about things that are different .

I can say that least for Civ V that the pads aren't gimmicky, but something that works very well.

If I had to guess, I'd say that what makes so many people instantly assume the Steam Controller's trackpad is terrible is that they see the word "trackpad" and instantly think of laptops.

I'll admit it does put me off, and it's why I'll need to try before I buy. There isn't a single touch controlled device I've ever liked using for extended periods.

Wait, people actually like the Steam controller? That thing looks just awful.

Since I got mine it's been my go-to controller in pretty much every game from FPSs to RPGs to puzzle games. Never understood the "oh it requires so much tinkering" claim as it has worked from out of the box for every game so far for me. But the best thing about it is that I don't have to settle for working out of the box, I can actually make pretty much all experiences even better by customizing the shit out of it if I want to. That one tweak like putting the jump button on the handle which improves the playability by hundred-factor is so-good.png.

If I had to give some negatives they aren't about the controller itself but about the software which is still quite hit and a miss (such as not loading the correct config until restarting the controller and trying again). However those are just small, uncommon things.

Well while Pele is still often called the greatest footballer ever, although stats will probably favour Messi (even though it's totally Ronaldo who's the best), neither of them could score a goal like Rashford's seccond. I don't think I've even seen Messi head the ball with his eyes open.

I only have about 260~ games, pretty sure. If I have a title in mind, the search function within the library works rather than scrolling. If I'm looking genre wise, I just go through regular steam search and define to x and x genre and look through what's green because I've already lost my categories once. I used to have it set up like Hektor does, but I can hardly maintain it - plus, the concept of multi-genre titles started to bother me a lot.

You can't get rid of that category, ha.

Sorting games into categories is a pain, I tried to do it by hand but it just takes so much time that I finally gave up and used depressurizer to sort them.
