Did not know Space Marine has such a negative reputation. Sad days.

To paraphrase RPS, most people found it was mostly 'more of the demo', which is probably why for some it's a day 1 purchase but I couldn't even touch it at 50% off during the winter sale. For 12.50$ though, it is a pretty good deal.

Now if only Steam would work properly so I can activate the key.

Well, in that case, the new system doesn't seem to apply to files that fail to verify (i.e. Steam doesn't check the contents of archives for corrupt files and instead assumes the entire archive is corrupt).

Wow 3 dailes in a row that I bought. I know a ton of you complain that only crap games get daily deals, but I love them. It's the only way for really lesser known games to get way cheap. I mean, during the holiday sales, how many times can you buy Super Meat Boy and L4D. Who the heck doesn't have those yet?

I played the demo way back and it was pretty by-the-numbers. I don't have much interest in 40k, so it seemed like the game wasn't for me.

That's how I felt and I like the 40K universe too. Dawn of War 2 is a better representation of the 40K universe anyways.

What's really funny is that when Skyrim first came out on Steam, the main executable didn't have Steamworks DRM in it so you could launch it without Steam. People who backed up the executable can probably still run it, though it won't have new patched stuff now.

yep i used to just double click the shortcut on my desktop and play without booting steam
i only have 35hrs played according to steam, i know the real number and its terrifying - considering that i basically stopped playing in november after i encountered a quest breaking bug

First time I bought something from GMG, Chase stopped the transaction thinking it might be fraud. I just had to call the number on my card and go through some automated process saying that I authorized the charge. After that I just had to reorder and I was fine.

Anybody else think their Steam game timers are screwed up sometimes? My Magicka time somehow decreased by a half hour and my Oblivion time is lower than what it says in game.

While I loved the action, I thought the bosses (while large in scale) were pretty bad. Run around and wait to shoot a weakpoint. Woo.

That sounds like a reasonable thing to do. I don't think Steam can read inside archives -- instead, it computes byte-level differential patches.

Error correcting codes only work when there's a bound on the number of errors. I assume Steam computes file hashes, and a wrong file hash doesn't give any info on the number of errors.

(Note that if you try to start Witcher 2 now, if your local copy hasn't moved to the new system yet it will -- this will cause the entire game to be redownloaded. This was explained as a limitation of the conversion and a one-time thing, IIRC.)

I seem to recall someone raged at me so hard when I suggested they try changing their download region to see if it helped with games not starting due to busy servers. They were 100% convinced it was unrelated.

I wonder if download region affects more than purely download speeds, however.
