In my opinion the Tencent thing might be an overblown issue.
If the games are regionlocked in China, people can still buy ROW copies from other websites. Niers playercount shows that 7% of the players are from China, even though the game isnt available there yet.
Also Valve has imo only themselves to blame. They could have introduced the local currency far earlier. It has been introduced like one and a half year ago and that might have been too late. Also when DOTA2 launched, they sold the rights to Perfect World and had some strange Perfect World launcher instead of going through Steam for China.
And last but not least, I think if Valve would "moneyhat" Rocket League 2 exclusively for Steam, I dont think that many people would be that mad.
Personally I totally hate that Tencent deal, but I can see how it might make sense in China.
