Steam Deck OLED Announced: Coming November 16

I've got an anti glare screen protector but don't really want to use it as I think it'll compromise the fantastic visuals. Anyone know of good alternatives to use? I'm in the UK if that matters.

Is anyone else in the UK/Europe experiencing this shitshow from GLS (and Parcelforce if in the UK)?

Huge amount of people on the Steam Deck subreddit shipping megathread with the exact same problem of zero updates from GLS/Parcelforce.

Apparently Parcelforce depots have said a bunch of gone "missing" and are elevating the issue to management.

Absolutely. I'm in Spain. My Deck has been in a limbo between Netherlands and Spain for 4 whole days. GLS Netherlands says it left the country, GLS Spain says they haven't received it. Probably the worst delivery experience I've had in my life, two full weeks to not be able to deliver a package, not really sure what Valve was thinking here.

I caved in and ordered an Oled deck just now. I use my lcd one daily and I will buy one sooner or later, might as well be sooner🤣. Can't wait to stream my desktop games in 90fps on that gorgeous screen. My first ever Oled experience, so very curious what the hype is about.

My LCD deck is going to my girlfriend. I don't want to sell it as it's basically my favorite console of all time.

While that's neat, it will just murder the battery even more. Plus, its hard enough to run games at 60, let alone 120 lol.

It is good for steaming though, Moonlight at 120hz will be even better than 90, which is better than 60. Same for PS5 I'd imagine. But certain older PS2-style games can hit 120 I'm sure and some indies. I think there's brightness issues or something at the moment however with the 120hz mode.

I don’t think I’m gonna use one because it’s gonna fuck with the anti glare panel. Image quality will take an huge hit if you do that. Unless Zagg makes a really nice crystal clear one. I would not put an anti glare on top of an anti glare that’s for sure.
I get what you're saying, but I'm obsessed with keeping the screen nice and I've got butter fingers bad. Not to mention, I've got a daughter, two cats, a dog, and my wife is gonna play on it and my wife is one of these people who will just make screens disgusting somehow. I think it's all her skin product stuff.

So yeah, no naked portable screens in my home ever.

Neat to see the differences in panel layout. I wonder if it is noticeable at normal viewing distance, and which pattern is better.

Cracks me up that in a comparison shot like that they couldn't get the same type/quality photo for both sides, like they just took two totally different phones/cameras and make you think one is super diluted when in reality they both would be exactly the same color/saturation as each other.

Most comparison videos that have released claimed they're exactly the same essentially in normal conditions, cannot tell them apart.

Then random comments suggest:
- (Some?) of the Samsung's have a slight noticeable mura, others don't seem to
- The Samsung appears to be slightly sharper than the etched displays - may just have more to do with it being glossy
- BOE can do 120hz, Samsung cannot
- BOE can do poor VRR with caveats - like the brightness changes/screen flickers when changing refresh rates in VRR
- BOE panels have a much much higher chance for dead pixels

I really think that you probably couldn't identify which panel you have simply by looking at - unless you had a panel with telltale signs like dead pixels or mura. I think the colors are likely both nearly identical.

Man, I’ve been gaming on OLED since like 2017 and I was still blown away by the upgrade to OLED Deck.

I was playing Signalis last night and it’s just amazing.

Let us know your feedback once you get yours!

Anyone play Dragons Dogma on the deck? I wanna replay it and thought I’d give it a whirl on the deck instead of ps5 or switch.
I haven't but it'll probably run great and definitely better than PS5 or Switch since those are capped at 30fps.

I'm been playing through Sleeping Dogs on my OLED and not only does it look amazing on the screen, I can also run the game between 70-90fps. I capped to 60fps just to extend battery, but Dragons Dogma will run good on it for sure.

Nooooooo, I fogot to get Signalis at a discount in the most recent sale :messenger_loudly_crying:

I got both Ori's, Hollow knight and Death's door on the last day of the sale to blow me away. Also thinking of finally getting some of the darker games in my library a try like Alien: Isolation.

Have you tried Moonlight with yours? 90 fps OLED streaming of that quality seems like a no brainer for the more demanding games. I've recently caught myself just streaming about everything that requires a 30-40 frame cap with low settings instead and playing them on max settings at 60fps (soon to be 90)

Anybody use the official dock as a stand while playing? Is it sturdy enough? I like to stand my Switch OLED up on the desk while playing certain games.

Suppose I could also look into a cheap stand for now since I don't need any of the IO functionality. Most of what I'm seeing isn't looking very good though.

Skull & Co makes a (very cheap mind you) case that stands up on its own very sturdily thanks to a flat under side

I use the kick stand on the dbrand killswitch

Got the offical dock but I only use that when I am docking to the TV.

Even thou I don't like the overall look of LE in pictures compared to render/promo shots, I can still appreciate the attention do details that Valve put into this thing. Especially in the back with orange/red screws and vent. It looks cool.

The least they could do for charging $20 extra for colored plastic.

Gotta step out of the hardcore bubble, most of gamers are still using 1080p monitors and low end specs all around. A very small number have oled monitors.

I’m talking about living room TVs, not just monitors. They’ve been selling the LG OLEDs for nearly a decade now.

Moonlight is almost flawless. I’ve tried it with Starfield and it’s so nice to play it in that fidelity on that screen at 90FPS anywhere I want in my home. Battery life is crazy when streaming, I’m at 68% and 5+ hours left.

UPS tried pulling a fast one today. I am in my living room and they pull into my driveway. They drop off three packages. I immediately go out and get them and one of them isn’t mine and my steam deck box isn’t there.

It was like a scene out of fast and the furious. I hopped in my car and went after them. Then they claimed it wasn’t on their truck. I told them they are being stolen at an astronomical level. They told me to contact the shipper. I did and then five minutes after I get home a UPS truck pulls back in and there’s my steam deck.

Be careful with these delivery drivers. The fucked thing is, it said Delivered on the tracking. I don’t know if I would have had any recourse. I told steam support I got the package after the fact.

Large portion of 4K adoption in US households just happened a few years ago. The technology has been available but considered too expense and a niche product for most people. The thought process being I can get a $1500 55inch OLED or a $500 77inch lcd tv. Most pick the later.

The combination of an excellent OLED screen plus the great console like controls makes the Steam Deck such a winning formula. Playing on phones with a telescopic controller or on Switch with Joycons just doesn't compare.

I have the official Dock, it's plenty sturdy but I'm only using it to connect to an external monitor. If I'm understanding you right, you'd use the controls on the Deck and have the stand keep it upright? Probably fine, but it's overkill for what you're trying to do.

That's nice, I was using the Nreal glasses recently as they did a Firmware update and can now push 120hz. Pretty nice there is a mod for the deck itself now.

Been toying with the idea of getting one of these. Have you ever used this in-flight before? hows the experience ?

Received my Oled on Monday this week and it has rekindled my Monster Hunter addiction with Rise.

I am pretty impressed by the battery life compared playing Rise on the OG and the HDR implementation has been a pleasant surprise in this game.

The HDR is unreal too IMO, I've never seen a phone look as bright as the Deck, any iPhone or Samsung you name it. Just like the PSVR2 the combination of OLED+HDR makes the device literally one of a kind.

Question, does Game Pass work on Steam Deck OLED? I followed various tutorials and I cannot manage to make it work. When I launch Xbox Cloud Gaming it returns to Steam…

The OLED deck has a max brightness of 1,000 nits peak brightness while the current Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra does 1,750 nits and the next one (S24) is said to have a max of 2,500 nits.
