What is with all the controller talk on PC lately? What's wrong with using a keyboard for it? The only thing that a controller would have over a keyboard are the analog sticks, right?

PC has the best and widest selection of controller availability, certain genres (like platformers) are clearly designed for and ideal on controllers. I can't imagine any reason a PC gamer wouldn't own one or more controllers at this point.

Good god no. Ain't touching a platformer or a fighter with a keyboard. Terrible.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me
And was on Steam so that people would see that I'm playing and subsequently pick the game up. At least among people that are friends with or follow me, there's nothing quite as persuasive as the Steam activity feed. On the other hand, I can't get anyone (besides the BF) to play Guild Wars 2 or Minecraft with me.

I prefer my MMO free to play. idk maybe I just can't justify $15 a month. I wish there was a way you're paying for hours you're logging on, because there might be days when I don't play at all.
Agreed with both posts. I enjoyed the shit out of guild wars 1 because it didn't have the barrier to entry like wow.

Actually, off topic kind of, but did anything come about with South Park: Stick of Truth getting DLC?

Back when it was still THQ it was supposed to be getting story DLC.

To quote Trey Parker, "Fuck that." What was cut from the script ended up forming the basis of episodes for the show.

Man I feel like a day trader or something. Plonking 200 odd listing on the market and slowly watching them come in and the wallet funds go up is satisfying thought. This would be murder without a numeric keypad ;)

Awwwwww. I'd have liked an extra incentive to go finish it off. Completed the main story just need to find a few residents of South park and knock out a couple of side quests and that should be it for the achievements. One of my fav games I played this year.

Mouse and keyboard combo doesn't cause me any trouble, why bother with a gamepad.

While downloading the beta I couldn't help but think that as I was staring at the image on the downloader.

Either way, fans will be able to find out for themselves on November 11th, when the game comes out for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I'm never going to get to play Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode on my 3DS, or on anything for that matter, am I? :(

I signed that petition for nothing.

On the bright side, Stone didn't rule out a sequel when asked about it earlier in the year ("We'll see how it's received").

Edit: Speaking of South Park, I'm still a little salty that my OT suggestion fell on blind eyes. "Bigger, Longer, and Censored in Europe" > "Bigger, Longer and Uncut (in select regions)". The latter doesn't even make sense considering it's censored in select regions. Hmph.
(I don't actually care, but I do think it's the better title. ;))

Wait really? I thought the original version wasn't available anymore.

It's just not available on the store. Despite what Sega Support will tell you, it is indeed possible for publishers to request keys from Valve for games not sold on Steam itself.

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
How does idle master work? Just asking because I'm interested in the programming. I already got it running right now.
Is it basically the same system that I could use with the HL2.exe and this text file where I could put in the app id? Or is it something different?

It basically just tells Steam you're playing a game with app id X, where X is an app id from a list of games on your badge page that have card drops outstanding.

To expand on this a little bit: the steam-idle.exe application was written in C# using a .NET Steamworks wrapper. Steamworks is what developers who create games on Steam use to enable things like Steam achievements and community features. Most Steamworks applications use a single AppID (that's assigned by Valve) that corresponds to their game. This application lets the user choose their own AppID (or in this case, more specifically start.exe chooses for you) so it uses the same "Steam initialization" code that any Steamworks game would use to tell Steam's servers that you're playing a particular game.

As far as I know, there is no way for Steam's servers to be able to distinguish this from actually launching the game in question.

*shrug* it's your loss. There's very few things you can spend so little on to increase your options and playability as a controller. The reality is, a large percentage of games are designed initially for consoles and therefore controllers. A perfectly good controller can be had for $15-$20, why have a $500+ pc system and gimp yourself to save so little?

Royal Quest is f2p but I can't "buy" it.

The sub hasn't been added to the store yet. 1C has a habit of doing this, that is adding store pages and slapping the current date on them but taking its sweet time adding the actual subs. It'll be up within the next few hours or so.

Why in the seven hells would you NOT use a controller to play it?

I have this, but haven't tried it yet. Do you ever have to aim the grapnel/grappling hook? I remember playing Mark of the Ninja using both kb&m and controller. I came across situations where certain kunai targets were really close together that I could barely switch between using a joystick. The more involved character movement made using a gamepad preferable overall though.

Usually I hate that term but it fits Absolution perfectly. A jumbled mix of good ideas/intentions with horrible design decisions.

Well if Absolution is a mixed bag I'd equate that to a bag of apples. Some are rotten others are ripe but most of them are a bit bruised. It's an alight game it's just for me not up to par with the other Hitman games. As I said the other day a fan of the Kane & Lynch games would like Absolution.

Absolution really did have some considerable improvements even over Blood Money, but the disguise system was just too borked, some of the more scripted/actiony sequences were too frequent and the linear segments were too frequent with too few traditional levels to capture the appeal of Blood Money.

Would be a markedly better game if the disguise system was fixed. The idea of making them less than 100 percent reliable is great; there were situations in Blood Money that, because of how perfect disguises were, were less intense than they should be.

Having just anyone who's wearing the same outfit as you become suspicious is dumb though — it does make parts of the game challenging, but in a way that doesn't make sense. If a game feature disguises so prominently and has relatively smaller scale levels with finite number of NPCs, it's not unreasonable to create a network of NPCs that know one another in each level. Chinatown chefs who don't even know there's an assassin prowling around shouldn't be suspicious enough of an unrecognizable chef to interrogate that person, let alone suspicious enough to sound an alarm. On the flipside, a small police strike force should know one another better and be harder to fool.

Expanding on ways to blend in (and not tying it to the "instinct" meter) would be much better. Same-clothes NPCs would become suspicious of you unless you were actively doing a non-suspicious gesture (scratching face, looking through pamphlets, Etc.) and there were times where I was surrounded and essentially trapped at a stove pretending to cook, since if I stepped away from it, people would immediately get irreversibly suspicious (on a harder difficulty) and non-suspicious actions outside of certain locations costs instinct that doesn't regenerate on harder difficulties. Having certain disguises require specific series of actions to be non-suspicious would be good, e.g. chefs only have to periodically cook, or be seen near cooking stations to be non-suspicious. Getting a limited number of chances to make up an excuse for suspicious behavior for a single NPC would be nice too — in absolution, having someone come up to you to question you only has two ways to escape.

The game recognizing disguises with masks or helmets would help make that aspect of the game seem more fair too. in short, there's no good reason for this game to have so many flaws and incongruities with one its most prominent aspects of gameplay. I still give the game a bit of a pass because I appreciate how IO was willing to introduce non-traditional situations to the game (being hunted by other assassins/cops), I just think those segments don't require the level of scripting and linearity Absolution had in order to be fun/challenging.

Gotcha thanks, well makes me somewhat glad I didn't jump on the Sci-Fi humble bundle then.

The Director's Cut version is in a bundle on BundleStars if you want to get it.
http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/scorched-bundle/

The upgrade to Qube DC is free, so activating the key SHOULD activate the DC also as a separate entry.

It activates just the original game. There isn't an upgrade option on the page that I could see at the moment. Maybe they'll add it later with the influx of new owners?

Argh, played Spelunky, didn't enjoy the ghost mechanic, wanted to explore the level in my own pace, not a fan of being rushed like that, more or less took the fun out of the game for me personally, don't think there's a way to disable it.
The ghost is more of a mental obstacle than anything else. There usually isn't much to explore in a Spelunky level anyways, and it moves so slowly that it's rarely a huge threat save for a few situations. She's a shock factor trick that can be overcome without much effort once you're used to its presence.
