Which is a line zky said because he doesn't know you can buy any item you want individually. So he thinks they can only be obtained through the boxes. Which is incorrect. Hency why he says the line I quoted...

But you can't buy pioneer crates with real money, right? So it makes sense to me that he was talking about in-game money in both cases. That is, doesn't want to gamble in-game cash on loot boxes but would rather buy items directly with said money.

Unless he was talking about other kind of crates and missed the news.

No, the second line is about buying it with money. Why would he complain about having to use free ingame points to buy in-game items? That wouldn't make any sense.

Because you can't buy those items with the free in-game points, that's the complaint. Makes perfect sense to me.

Maybe I'm just reading it the way I want to, because I at least would much rather just buy the red white stripe shirt with in-game points instead of gambling on another pioneer crate and hope that I get it.

Still playing Swords and Sorcery...

Oh man! A mummy! Some cool art!

Then combat starts and... oh crap:

Still loving it. There are many neat ideas in this game. Notice how only blessed characters can damage the undead. Priests cast spells using spell points, but some spells require holy water. You get water from fountains and rivers, and you make it holy using a spell.

Again, that makes no sense whatsoever.

""i hate that kind of shit, i don't mind selling cosmetics (tho it's kind of bullshit in a non-f2p game), but just let me buy whatever i want"
"
Why would this be about selling cosmetics with in-game points? Why would it be bullshit in a non-f2p game? :p

And again, you don't need gamble anything. You can just sell one single trading card and get your item http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/578080/Long Sleeved T-shirt (Striped)

yeah sorry guys, i was on pizza duty and couldn't clarify

i did mean buying with real money, because what i got from the article i read was that there were loot box exclusive items that you could only unlock with real money

if that's not the case then i still don't like loot boxes, but it's a meaningful distinction to make and i'm sorry for the confusion

Yeah, you right. I don't buy crates in anything that offers them, Fuck that.
you've got my praise, i've actually bought my share of those "just cos it's cheap" and believe me when i say it's the least satisfied i've ever felt with buying anything in a videogame

it's so bad, i really hope devs stop turning their games into casinos

Every item that comes in the lootbox can be bought directly from the steam market, often for cheap. There is no need to buy keys or gamble on crates at all.

Ugh, I guess I somehow missed the non-f2p part of the quote multiple times until you just specifically pointed it out.

As for the other thing, I know I can buy the shirt with any kind of wallet money, but generally I just think it feels like an unnecessary step that they could eliminate.
Just let me buy the thing in-game with in-game battle points. Maybe make it a bit more expensive or something so you could potentially get 2 or 3 crates for the price of a shirt.

I wouldn't mind that kind of crate gambling at all, if I had the option to just save up and buy it directly instead.

i get what you're coming from, but that is not really a solution i like

if i understand correctly how this would work, someone has to get that item on a purchased lootbox for them to put it up for sale in the steam market, which already means a couple sucky things for me. one, that someone had to gamble for it and two, that this person didn't like what they got and was forced to sell it to get something else (or they just turned it for a profit, which also feels like it defeats the purpose of buying a nice thing for that fun game you like)

basically for it to be on the market someone has to gamble for it, which means that while YOU might not have to gamble for it, someone has, and that to me is very scummy from developers and not something i approve of

that to me seems like typical taking advantage of whales, people with compulsive tendencies, children, etc. and that's not cool

not meaning to make a big deal out of this cos i've already said my piece about loot boxes in the past, i mostly wanted to mention how much better that game would be if all the characters in it looked like schoolgirls

Eh, I really don't get the condescending "every person that ever decides to buy a lootbox is getting taken advantaged off, is a kid, has compulsive tendencies" tbh.

nah, that's not my intention, in fact, i'd argue the opposite is true and most people don't have compulsive tendencies, etc.

but it's a casino, and while there's a lot of people that can handle themselves in a casino, others can't (for various reasons), and f2p games have always preyed on those kinds of people so it's real sucky for me that those sorts of systems exist

What about maids?
Also Woo It's shark week on Discovery channel!

i've never been a fan of maid uniforms, i think they look stupid

Overwatch has so far been the only game where I've been completely fine with its lootbox implementation, but most others take a Valve approach to it which I've always found completely terrible. Overwatch is also the only game that has managed to get me to buy lootboxes, because I felt so good about the system that I just bought 'em as a little extra regardless of what I got -- because the game never felt exploitative about it. I've actually put in over the price of the game in boxes at this point.

Meanwhile I've put 2000~ hours into TF2 and a little over 1000~ in CS:GO and have played them during the entire duration of their crate systems and never bought into a single one. Killing Floor 2 opted for the same Valve approach and it still gets a lot of shit in their community because they don't quite have the clout of Valve to do just about anything and have enough people be okay with it that it works out.

My new PC is on its way! (Ryzen 1700, 1080) Maybe I'll be able to get Pyre to work now.

Next Day: Survival is a weird game, it's almost too competent and stable for a early access alpha survival game. It gives me some major STALKER vibes, more so than something like DayZ, which is what presumed it would be more like, for $7.50 I'm having a really good time with it. Look forward to seeing where they go with this game as it's got some real potential as a STALKER like game in a way I didn't think it would when I bought it.

Please still pray for XX ;-;

That new final monster I spoiled myself on is weird and awesome

Also, hunting horn for life. Have never touched a different weapon and I've played since tri.

Hoping for XX so my Switch can stop collecting dust but I won't really care as soon as MHW is out. This is the Monster Hunter I've been asking for since I tried to play MHFU on PSP with those garbage ass controls and graphics.

3DS gen has so many great and interesting monsters that will never be recreated for the new one that I'm almost equally excited for both. Monster selection will be really limited I'd have to imagine but I'm happy to be surprised.

3DS controls with the nub are perfectly comfortable for me which solved the old issues.

Ahhh I need this game :D

Thanks for the gifs!

EDIT:
As an aside, does anyone have any strong opinions on Steam Link? I used to hook my laptop directly to the TV via HDMI but I'm paranoid the kids and pets are going to trip over it and it's nice to be untethered. I've got about $30 of Amazon credits, just wondering if anyone felt strongly for or against it.

Cold Steel is sounding great. Finished all 3 Sky games so I'm ready to jump into it but I still have a bunch if games I bought from the Steam sale that is still unplayed.... Decisions decisions...

Whenever the steam link first launched I was in a group living situation where I lived with 20 people in a massive house and bought a steam link to share my games with everyone in the common room. Worked perfectly 80 % of the time but unfortunately there were random games which when you tried to close them via the steam link/big picture interface it wouldn't work and everyone would be locked out until I came home and was able to go to my rented room and alt f4 or what have you. Have they improved that at all?

I feel the exact opposite. I am stuck with 5~ legendaries for Phara that i'm never going to use (because i like her epics more) and i can't do anything with them. If it was using valve's approach i could at least trade them for something else or even give them away to someone who wants them.
Heck, I'd even take a Hearthstone approach. Let me destroy them for 1/4 of the cost to make a new one. Just let me do something with them.

Opening a legendary shouldn't feel bad, yet it sometimes does in Overwatch.

That they're just naturally implemented, you get them from playing and there's nothing exclusive to buy into or anything like that. You play, you get boxes, you open 'em and get things.

isn't that the same as idk doto or something?

i guess doto is like 500x more complicated

Staring down at a tiny ass screen with a 'nub' will never be comfortable despite how much you try to convince yourself :)

Need at least a real controller and 27 inch+ screen imo. The horseshit graphics aren't what bothered me the most about MH but I'm glad they're gone. Handhelds limit way too much to be the main platform of an action game, regardless of how low Japanese standards are.

Never used the nub. Then again I am use to camera resetting, where you click and camera goes behind you.

I even do that in soulsborne games.

Lol no.

Dota 2 gives you occasionally a shitty item for playing but boxes always cost money.

There are around 300 different ones by now, each box includes it's own item sets, usually around 12 that can only be dropped from that box. In addition to that, every box also includes a rare and a ultrarare item that can be dropped in addition to a normal item.

Boxes are also only available for a limited time, after that the only way to obtain its items is trading or buying from people who got them.

Loot boxes also drop every item only once, so you can't get dupes until you unlocked all Commons in which case the dupe counter resets.

Right now during the international you can also buy points to unlock new levels in the international compendium, each level giving you items only available in the compendium such as the portal companion cube for wisp as well as a chance to play rylai's roulette, a literal roulette in which you get the chance to unlock an expansive arcana item (price 35$ in the dota 2 store) or something shitty you don't need.

I once sold a timebreaker for 50$, so valve can do no wrong in my eyes anymore God bless 👏

I mean I have a 4k tv, 144hz monitor and great pc so I always would love the best but my first system and game was on the b&w gameboy so honestly I find myself in a constant state of amazement that I don't mind the small, terrible screen for the games I love lol
