I am going to make it through this year if it kills me
The "Valve is not your friend" article is right on some aspects. I just wish I had editorial control overt it. Good Guy Valve, could never be in my reign of editorial terror.

The "Valve is not your friend" article is right, but I wish I had editorial control overt it.

nobody can say me who my friends are, nobody!

and nobody really thinks that valve (or any corporation) is their friend anyway

talking about valve, they fixed that missing friend thingie on steam store pages really fast, not valve time fast, I was impressed tbh

I'd pay good money to read in-depth videogame industry business articles written and edited by proper business journalists - Washington Post, Financial Times and LA Times writers, for instance. People who have a grounding in actual journalism, and have been around the block in terms of seeing what other industries do, how other industries compete and innovate, and how other industries attract and keep customers.

Until that happens, I'm swearing off anything about games companies or the games industry, because it's all too naive, too childish and too much like a forum rant.

There are people on this world running around with apple tattoos.

Certain companies have become lowkey popstars since they started selling "lifestyles" rather than products, that also holds true for videogames in lesser degree.

For those unaware, Desura has become a part of OnePlay and they aim to get Desura accounts integrated sometime this year-

3. When will Desura / Indie Royale / Daily Royale be back online?
We are aiming to be back up and running in the second quarter of 2017. We are building an all new platform for our websites, to better serve you.

Bethesda did it in the past too.

If they're doing it again this sale, mind linking to a steamdb page that can show it please?

It depends. Some of those established places do have freelancers who do not know our industry. I've run into very deep articles on FT about vague or investigative reporting, but falls flat on some of the tech and gaming fronts. Not every outlet will be specialized.

And there are mostly tabloid news, which the mainstream "games press" is.

The Economist runs a sponsored article on Facebook about the [false] correlation of videogames and unemployment.

Skepticism, and critical thinking are always useful skills to have.

but that doesn't mean they think Apple is their friend, and if you google tattoos, there are people with tattoos of literally everything.
Although, I do agree that being so attached to any product isn't healthy. Then again, we are attached to steam pretty much, so much so that some people won't even consider gog/uplay/origin, etc. It's a matter of habit and convenience I think.

oh wow, I didn't expect this to happen, if they'll succeed that is. Not that it's very important, I pretty much gave up on my Desura library, but still nice if it'll lead to anything worthwhile

I just want to know what titles I got via Desura since the last time I ran it I had forgotten to write down the titles I had on it XP.

Anyone here have thoughts on Trine 3? I liked 1 & 2, is 3 worth it for $3.26 thanks to regional pricing and the "complete your collection" feature?

Trine 3 is short but for that price I'd say go for it. You're bound to get your money's worth despite its length for that price.

I'm sorry Paradox but there's contradiction in your words. You can't match prices to purchase power on those areas and at the same time make prices more competitive around the globe.

Brazilian purchase power decreased in the last few years (currency is weaker than before) yet Paradox increased its catalog prices an average of 20%

Last I heard (I haven't played it), Trine 3 bopped out of Early Access unfinished due to lack of consumer interest, and ends very abruptly. The devs bit off more than they could chew with the jump to 3D gameplay.

Which reminds me: another thing Valve should crack down on is companies abusing Early Access by falsely hitting 1.0 to avoid languishing in EA forever. (I'm looking at you, Spacebase DF-9!) There has to be some kind of transparency or restriction on how games transition from EA to full release to avoid this issue; anything less is open to abuse. An easily accessible development timeline (as in, a list with version history, change log, and release date) would be a good start.

Interesting acquisition. OnePlay is a key reseller with its own download client that I presume just delivers cracked copies of games laced with its own form of DRM.

Thanks for info Jase. As I wrote, I mainly want to know WHAT games I owned on Desura as the client isn't running for me atm. Once I know what titles I had gotten on there I can go about grabbing them via Steam or itch.io for example if they're available there.
I had gotten my Desura games, well some at least, from Groupees, so I do have access to the drm-free copies at least. Alas I rarely use Groupees nowadays even to check what I do and do not own :p

posting on behalf of all excited lashman:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/588160/Pizza_Connection_3/

it's called Pizza Tycoon 3 for non-EU people

I remember playing the original Pizza Tycoon. It was pretty (over)complicated. Sure, you could design your own pizza with all kinds of crazy toppings, but then you actually had to order the ingredients from separate suppliers for cheese, vegetables, meat, etc. Then you're all "Why is nobody buying my new pizza? Oh, I ran out of an ingredient and they never got made in the first place." I do remember that I started my business in Germany and the names of the German suppliers actually had their German on point, so they did do the research.

Destiny 2 launching on Battle.net would mean that Blizzard has to actually give a shit about someone other than Blizzard. I find that hard to believe. Who knows tho. We live in a crazy world so anything could happen.

well, the original is a German game if I remember correctly, so makes sense that the "German stuff" is correct :)
