Steam new overlay shows that frame generation is lowering your framerate

Wrong.

The point of higher framerates depends on what the user is looking to get out of it. Many people primarily want image fluidity/motion clarity and are okay if the latency feels like 50fps even though the display looks like 100fps.

AMD GPUs have frame generation too, you know.
You're right and I'm on the group of motion fluidity/motion resolution, for me that's as important as resolution for some IQ whore.

I was convinced by it when FSR 3 first came out in the demo of Forspoken, then I've tried it in other games and so far it's heavily hot or miss. In Doom TDA FSR FG was way worse, like unplayable to me, now I see that it's because the resources GPU for way more taxed with it.

But I just recently played R&C with it enabled and damn it was so good, no perceivable input latency compared to not using it and motion fluidity was perfect.

So basically I'm not a fan of a hater, I'm more like "if it's perfect in this game, let's use it".

The bit early on where he had no concept in his mind of how frame gen has to work hurt my head... Like, yeah bro, ya gotta divide the output by the frame gen multiplier if you want the 'real' frames. The high production quality, low knowledge YouTubers are not for me. It's nice that he learned something though.
