Tips:

Search other regions of the Steam store by adding'?cc=uk', '?cc=us', '?cc=fr' at the end of Steam's address.
You can spread the payments over multiple credit cards by adding money from each card/ account to your steam wallet:
1)Log into the client
2)Click on '.... account' at the top right corner of the page
3)Click 'add funds to Steam wallet'
If you are charged twice for a purchase, DO. NOT. FILE. A. CHARGEBACK! Work with Valve directly to fix the issue.

LovingSteam's (RIP) corner:

What is Steam:

A digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses. Steam also has community features, automated game updates, and in-game voice and chat functionality.

As of 2011, there are over 1,500 + games available through Steam. In January 2010 Valve claimed that it had surpassed 25 million active user accounts. Although Valve never releases sales figures, Steam is estimated to have a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video games.

Many major publishers have catalogs on Steam, including Electronic Arts, Activision, 2K Games, Ubisoft, THQ, Sega, Codemasters, id Software, LucasArts, Capcom, Rockstar Games, Square Enix, Microsoft, and Bethesda Softworks.

Security-
1. Verify Email HERE
2. Steam Guard-Within steam go to Steam> Settings> Manage Steam Gaurd>Keep account guarded by Steam Guard. For more info go here
3. Fishing Attempts- Valve will NEVER email you with sales or include a link that requires you log in. Its a phishing scam. Don't fall for it.
FAQ-
How do I contact Steam support?
Steam Support
Is my support account the same as my Steam account?
No. Your Steam, Steam Forums, and Steam Support accounts are all different
Is there offline mode?
Yes, from within the client click on 'Steam' and then select 'Go offline'. You will have to store your log in information and periodically (every 30 days?) go online to verify files.
How can I add a non Steam game to the client?
Go to 'GAMES' and click on 'Add a non-Steam game to library'

Remember you can also pay with PayPal

Useful Sites:

For better browsing on the different store prices (depending on region) you can always use SteamPrices

SteamPrices.com compares game and package prices from the Steam Store. At the moment, USD, GBP and EUR for a bunch of different regions are supported.

This site was created in order to show the huge difference in Steam Store prices for single games and packages. You can choose one of the supported currencies and compare "your" price to the ones in the other countries and regions. By and by, some comfortable comparison features and other stuff have been added, especially for registered users.

By the help of SteamPrices.com, you are able to search for games and packages and access multiple listings. Additionally, current spotlights and Steam news are also displayed.

For better browsing of every game on sale at the moment I recommend using SteamGameSales (great to find the cheapest sale-long discounts)

Users that are willing to help by gifting (in exchange of the proper value sent through paypal) games from other, cheaper regions:

Wow, I can't believe they changed the Need for Speed discounts.

I'm glad I got Hot Pursuit for 75% off.

I highly suggest this little gem.

English Country Tune is an abstract 3D puzzle game, which introduces a wide range of game mechanics in about 120 levels. The level design is really clever, as one could expect from the dev, increpare. There is a 75% discount on the Steam store.

If you need an invite to the Steam group, ask over there.

At last! Can we go back to bitching about the sales again?

Fuck the overpriced bundles, charging you 5 or 10 bucks more than buying the games one by one. Garry is getting greedier by the minute.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Thanks for making this thread.

Epic. Thanks for starting up the new thread. Hopefully Valve/EA catch the NFS flash sale mistake. I had them sitting in my cart ready to go.

Nice one, MrOrange - thanks. Dunno about anyone else, but I was a little lost there without a Steam thread...

Just ticked over into 2013 in this price-gouged part of the world, so it's as good a time as any: Happy New Year, SteamGAFfers. May Gabe lift his game and reassert his commercial authority during the coming year.

Happy new year from NSW gaf, and may all our publishers continue to mostly ignore stores that are not steam.

Was wondering when/if it was going to go up. I was half tempted to create a thread that said: "Steam Winter Sales 2012 lOT2l Like the sales, the OP sucks!" And that would have been it for the OP :lol.

I was wondering when this would go up. I think I'm going to get Sonic Generations over at GMG for ~$5.
I did it 5 minutes ago, along with the DLC (which I doubt is worth it, but fuck it, it was only $1.12). GMG's not-so-stealthy marketing guy from the other thread did his job well, though I often check their site, so it was only a matter of time till I found out anyway. Buying it early ensured me a key though, as they sometimes run out of keys, like with Darksiders in July, or Sine Mora and Alpha Protocol last week.

The Steam sales here are still repeats...
The future sucks then :(

Then it's still 13 more hours until I can redeem my $5 coupons on Amazon. :(
Oh no, please no. My wallet will kill me on my sleep.

Can anyone sell me on Far Cry 3 in the daily deal or do you think I should just wait for a future sale? I have XCom, Dishonored and Sleepy Dogs all in my immediate backlog (and countless other games for after them) so don't want it unless its unlikely to be cheaper in the next month or so.

It might be best sleeping with one eye open then, that Editor's Choice sale is far too tempting. On another note, how is Sonic Generations? Sure you only purchased it five minutes ago and probably have not even installed it yet, but what's the GAF verdict? I have not played a Sonic game since SA2: Battle.

Open world sandbox FPS where infiltration actually works and is more rewarding (xp) than going in all gun blazing. Also, it's pretty. And you can get chased by tiger or bears and run into an enemy outpost and let the wild animals do your job

This has certainly been a perplexing year, even more so with the amount of completion Steam has now got. My sister wanted me to get her Sonic Generations for crimbo but I baulked at the £9.99 Steam price due to I could pick up a boxed copy cheaper and it's been on sale cheaper there too, so let her know it would be a belated present. Then all of a sudden GMG have it for £4.99 and then down to £3.50 with their 30% off code.

Not that I'm complaining or anything but all 3 options require Steam and I don't that much loyalty to Valve to spend 3 times as much for exactly the same outcome so I'm obviously going to go for the cheaper option. Don't know if Sega think people blindly buy stuff of Steam with comparing prices or what?

Thanks - I sense the last of my Steam wallet is going to get used up as I fancy the infiltration aspect.

I want Puzzle Agent 2 to go down in price. Just finished the first and thoroughly enjoyed it, but being jobless, the current 5 bucks are too much.

Come on, Garry, stop giving us repeats of the same big-studio crap and give us something new.

Also, I regret not having jumped on Resonance. Later read someone completed it in 5 hours, would have been the perfect length. :(

Is GTA:IV Complete worth getting if I already played the base game on 360 back when it first came out? Never played the expansions.

Well it activates on Steam, so Valve still wins.

Yes they don't make any money on a retail purchase of steam games. But that's valves business model. Look up service based company for more info if you don't understand.

I just noticed this. WTF!!!! And these weren't the only games I saw this done with. There's some they inflated the price of so the price didn't go down too low after the discount.

There's some shady stuff going on in this sale, I swear. For me at least, this is how a company like Valve begins losing loyalty, considering that most of us jumped on for the savings.
