Stellaris |OT| Imperium Universalis

Man, I love this game but I'm sort of disappointed of the lack of species categories in Empire Creation. I mean, there is a lot of interesting categories but I really wanted to create an empire of Fish or Amphibian people who live on an Oceanic world; although there aren't any categories for either. In fact, there is no Aquatic category altogether unless you count Molluscoid

Yeah.... I wanted dolphin-people. Amphibs are in in the reptilian section, though.

Hopefully some good animated mods come out in the future.

Or even dlc.

I'm sure there will be a lot more species options as the game goes on. They had to limit themselves to a few overall species types, and rightfully so. Fish, plants (as fungi aren't plants...), ethereal, rock-based... I'm sure we'll get those as well down the line, as well as more from the base species types. =)
I also would expect more humanoid options down the line. Wouldn't be surprised if we got pointy-eared people with bowlcuts. :p

Also there's frog-looking reptilians and crab-looking arthropoids. You could do with those.

Need Robofish species.

Thats pretty much what I ended up doing. I picked the blue reptile since it looks the closest to the humanoid aquatic creature that I had in mind.

Hopefully. I would buy the heck out of some Species DLC just because I am having a blast just role playing within the confines of this game

I'd rather not.
There was another tutorial series that was quite good if you can't stomach Arumba, I'd have to try and find it amongst my subs.

I only watched about 6 eps of Arumbas series, he front loaded it with explanation so didn't feel the need to watch anymore.

If the dynastic stuff isn't your thing I'd just play Game of Thrones mod. It's still in there but alternate reality Westeros is a lot more interesting. Anyway enough of my feudal ramblings, back to the space exploration.

I'm playing on a Macbook Pro, it works great. Re: bugs, I found some regarding the ability to order a ship to wormhole through allied space but it never actually happening, and some events confusing science ship name for planet name. Nothing major.

Cool, good to hear. I think I'll wait until the first patch is out. Plus I need to not get 4 hours of sleep every night right now!

I'm sure there will be all the portrait DLC we can handle. Trick will be holding off until it's all dirt cheap during a sale.

A couple of questions that were probably already answered: is there a quick(er) way to 'raise your troops' across sectors? Also, I don't know if it's a bug or it's supposed to work that way, but after integrating my wormhole-using vassal - I use warp - I'm stuck with a lot of ships I can neither use nor upgrade with the correct engine. They just stand there in front of the spaceport.

Setting up sectors doesn't have a downside does it? Decent tool for less micromanagement

The sector AI isn't super smart in building what you'd like to, and of course it can form factions that fight for its independence, especially if you have an integrated unhappy species there. Xenophobes in particular.

As already pointed out, the AI can be awful at keeping a decent balance.

I guess it doesn't help that I give them the worst fucking planets.
Some shit size 9 planets with 6 blockers. I ain't dealing with that crap.

Fighting a federation that surrounds you is hellish. I'm off going to occupy their capitals, while a hundred small AI fleets go around my empire taking out stations. But the absolute worst is the constant chirp of 'Hostile Fleet Detected'. That's a terror weapon all by itself, I swear.

Man, auto-unpausing during events is really frustrating. I'm trained to tap space bar at FTL speeds after playing EU4, so every event has this pause-unpause-pause-unpause dance going on and a lot of the time I'm not really sure why or whether I'm currently paused without looking to the top right.

Was only able to spend about 20 minutes with the game last night, but can't wait to dive a little deeper in the mechanics.

Also, can I adjust scroll speed? It seems pretty, pretty slow at default settings. I checked in the options but didn't see anything for scrolling (or honestly much of anything at all).

Oh, god, yes, I have the same issue with the pausing.
And the options are a bit too thin for my taste as well.

Put a ridiculous number of hours into this last night as soon as I got home plus into the wee hours of the morning. Waking up was hard but no regrets!

Loving everything about this game.

This thread is killing my resolve to stay away from this game for a few months - I still have too many big games to run through before hitting up another giant 4X game!

Got my ass handed to me by them damn purgers.

-I played a fanatical materialistic, xenophile race.
-First race I came across was Fanatical Spiritualist
-second had the 'fanatical purger' ai personality
-literally everyone else I came across was some form of spiritualist too
-they all hated my guts and didn't want to ally with me while the fanatical purgers were gobbeling them all up one by one, completely surrounding my lovely Dawkins Empire.
-I had supperior tech because that's how I roll, they had the numbers (about 1 to 5)
-My empire put up a pretty good fight, even managed to take their homeworld for a while but in the end there were just too many of them and I made some critical errors
-possibly could have won if i had not gone with a shield / lasers layout while they went with missiles (which ignore shields) shield layout.

Thinking about either going humans somethig or a fanatical spiritualist millitarist race for my next game.... Maybe I'll just use the same race again.

Quil was so lucky with his start. I want xenophile pacifist neighbors too :(

Played about 3 hours last night, but restarted once. Found a system that had three habitable planets but turns out it was in another empire's sphere. Shame, gonna restart tonight.

How many years should it take before I create my first colony? I was in year 6 and still a ways off from being able to build my first colony ship. Also, how do I build new wormhole station/gates/whatever they're called?

Does anyone have details on the specifics of vassal tribute and integration? I'm assuming it functions like EU, i.e. 50% or so of income to overlord, can integrate after X years if relations are high enough?

Hahaha I'm facing the same problem. You saw that screenshot I posted earlier? The blue and brown blobs are spiritualists, I only was able to ally them second-hand by allying the black guy with the squid icon North of the red one since we both were rivaled to him and the red guy beat up on the black guy a lot.

You can integrate them after 10 years, and opinion does not seem to matter. Not sure if you can integrate Disloyal vassals, but the actual opinion modifier is irrelevant.

Colony's are pretty expensive early on like that. No harm in delaying the tech/expansion in order to research aliens if you want, or if you have better needs for the credits

New wormhole generators are built with a construction ship. They have to be built outside of the gravity well though so sometimes clicking the right spot can be a bit weird n

I still have no idea what I'm doing but goddamn it is so addicting. My first game I got destroyed by an advanced Fnatic Militarist slaver race :(

Now I'm playing as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Collective and having a fun time. Was cool to see there was already 75+ mods in the workshop, too.

I build a big army, but it can only be transported via a weak transport ship?

Can I only build attack ships if I want ships capable of fighting in space?

It's been mentioned before, but the music in this game is really great. Not obtrusive (which would be really bad in a game you play for as long as this one) but still interesting and very thematically fitting.

Can you build a spaceport on their own planet?

So how do i propose a war against a certain system to my alliance?

Edit: nvm found out! DIdn't show up because an old proposel was still busy.

I could have sworn watching Quill18's let's play that he a wormhole station within his existing boundary but I must have been mistaken. I never even thought of just clicking outside the border. Thank you so much!

Indeed, it fits really well. They also have a video of one of the orchestra recordings. I'm also sure we'll get even more music later down the road with the cosmetic DLCs (and ship models, etc) among the event chain and expansion DLCs. If one ever gets bored of it, there is great music out there that is nice and ambient too that can fit well, I recommend Carbon Based Lifeforms for example. Nonetheless the OST really fits well with the thematic. I've always loved their music in all their strategies. Their Hearts of Iron IV game out next month also has some good period military music.

Thomas Bergersen's "Sun" album has been great space-listening as well. Especially when going to war. Shit is super hype.

some of my evil bugs are not team players, and they have lost their xenophobia. now they are upset when i enslave other species, but since they are collectivists they don't mind being enslaved themselves.

Is it just me or is some of the music VERY similar to a couple of tracks from Hearts of Iron 3? I was playing HoI3 a lot lately and I can definitely hear a lot of similarities.

Anyway so far I have played 10 hours with my friend from the USA. We had so much fun so far! The AI is pretty aggressive though, we set all empires to be advanced from the start to make it more interesting and that forced us to work together or we would get eaten. So far we have won one work by working together against this one Empire who really hated my friend's guts, luckily I managed to bail him out while they were bombing his homeworld. Awesome game so far.

Also, I found demolished Dyson ring and salvaged some intense tech from it.

Weird buggers, indeed.

Seeing some of my cockroaches being upset that other cockroaches are enslaved while the enslaved cockroaches themselves are so happy is quite weird. Then I enslave the former and they are happy again.
They had slavery envy or something.

I just noticed that this was one of the trading cards:
It's funny how this silly role-play ended up becoming sort of a mascot for the game, but watching those streams is also what really sold me on the game.

Agreed. It makes me happy that I ended up getting the edition that comes with the soundtrack. I have been listening to it all day at work.
