Stellaris |OT| Imperium Universalis

A nice mod is out that makes your tech selection window a bit taller so you can see more than 3 at once (provided you've got more then 3 available).

There's two, one for 1080 and one for 1440.

So I thought maybe if I didn't progress further down the tech tree the Robot revolution might not happen.

But tell me guys...

This one Robot pop having Individualist doesn't mean anything right? ...right?

Bah, bugged or something can't get rid of (late game event)
Scourge infested
planets =[
There seems to be a couple of bugs I can't get rid of the goddamn growling noise that happens when you're at the Unbidden Diplomacy screen.

I know droids have no use for food but can they still harvest it for the benefit of those meatbags?
Yes actually. They're a good substitute if you don't have any species specifically for it.

Later on I'm going to upgrade beyond Droids and see if giving the robots citizenship rights will prevent an uprising.

I don't think Droids can rise up, only Synths.
Then it's just a bug? It's happening too many times to other Droid pops now for me to think that.

I was thinking the same, at the very least maybe the Robots can stop the Unbidden. I personally think if I can force all the crises to happen at once, they'll just sort themselves out.

Them developing Individualist as ethos is just regular Ethics divergence.

You can get only one crisis per game. The second you get the AI revolution, the swarm and Unbidden can no longer happen.

Incorrect according to people reading game files, what actually happens is the MTTH drastically increases to make a second late game crisis extremely unlikely, but still possible if the game goes on long enough.

Yeah, vassalization always being available for 60 warscore is broken. It makes expanding stupidly easy when you just have to beat them once and wait. Plus, in the mean time they fight your battles and give a buffer zone against your next war. I even took Weak as a trait ffs.

Play on hard? If you already are go insane! Anyone know why when you leave assault squads on a planet when they become a vassal they all of a sudden don't work. Yet you pay resources?

I'm currently fighting a war against 16 races (3/4most of trash). The first real battle of the war was a 21K fleet vs their 24k fleet

Over half my fleet is lost. But replacements are coming.

Fighting an Federation and an spiritual alliance

I will burn their worlds for this.

I don't see a lot of general impressions so far. Anyone want to chime in?

I've only reached midgame, but impressions so far:

- A solid foundation for PDX to work on; obvious that many aspects of the game could be improved and expanded upon via DLC.
- And on that note, I hope a focus for content DLC early on will be combat; ground combat is boring and quite lame, and space combat could be improved as well. More interactivity instead of just throwing stacks at each other.
- Graphics and especially music are top-notch, the variety for races is already good. Can't wait to see what the game'll look like after they start releasing those cosmetic packs. No performance issues either, think the earlier stuttering issue was just with AMD gpus.
- Event chains are super-cool, no idea how varied they are, though. I suspect there might not be much depth in terms of how tailored they are to your racial and governmental choices. Again, apply DLC here.
- UI is sleek but as has been mentioned already, sorely lacking in some more indepth accessible info. Fixable with patches.
- Tech research randomization is a neat idea, and adds to the replay value. Your government and race ethics doesn't seem to have an effect in terms of weighting which techs you get to choose from to research next, but maybe that would've been OP.
- Having only two victory conditions will probably annoy some, but I don't mind since I'm all about that warmongering anyway.

I feel kinda boned in my game. My empire is doing pretty well, but I'm cornered off pretty good and I can't get anyone into an alliance with me. If I wasn't a pacifist I would just declare war on the 2 systems blocking me in.

(I'm the blue blob, Unified Saganite Systems)

Despite most of the galaxy thinking I'm a cool dude, they won't ally with me due to our different governments, even when their opinion of me is 120+. I'm the only Science Directorate so far :(

The Diri right above me have been posturing for war for quite a while. I feel like I'm getting destroyers kinda early on so I'm hoping I'll walk all over them.

Is there any way to tell what type of weapons/defense systems an empire uses before going to war with them?

It's very fun overall. Making your mark and discovering the galaxy, uncovering its secrets, and planning your next step are all core to Stellaris' successful gameplay loop. Randomised tech, events, and empires give life to the galaxy, and players soon realise just how small they are on a galactic scale. Then it becomes a game, not of unchecked growth, but planned refinement, that perfects your empire into a better, more worthy form, capable of facing whatever the galaxy can throw at it. Superb music and a decent tutorial will guide you through this immense process.

There are some issues, like UI or quality-of-life related, some mechanics that could be improved, and some bugs that need fixing. But it really pales in comparison to the sheer joy of playing Stellaris. And with how Paradox has treated its other games--CK2, EU4, etc--it has a very long, and healthy, lifespan ahead.

I'd give it a 2016/2016 on the yearly scale of fun. A very high score, indeed.

Sorta, can any of you scanners reach into their space? If so can it reach any of their planets? Mouse over their ships and it'll tell you a bit of intel about them.

I am really considering getting this game. Is there a way to build a civilization focused on accumulating massive amounts of wealth? That's my favorite way to play civ.

I'm not actually sure, but try giving someone who likes you most some of your credits, you've got loads. That might improve their feeling toward you enough to get an alliance.

I don't actually know if you can do that to raise their feeling toward you mind!

So one thing this has done, besides be awesome in and of itself, has made me interested in picking up some of their other games. I'm thinking CK2. Any required expansions that make the experience more enjoyable? Any Let's Plays worth watching to give me a general idea as to how it plays?

I'm in the same boat atm. Hope Paradox/steam does a sale on their games.

Looking at quill's beginner series on EU4 atm. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs3acGYgI1-uWvHEhlIvx-vzsX0vhMOZj

Gives you a nice overview of what the game is like and everything.

I was thinking the same... what is max relation score? It just stuck at 150 for a while and I still wasn't having luck. Just kept saying our war philosophy is different.

Anyone have any luck playing a pacifist empire? That rivalry influence loss seems pretty big since there aren't many too many ways to increase your influence.

Not entirely sure since I've just started to get a grasp on things.

Some ethics just seem way better than the..."friendlier" ones.

Just want to be a friendly but knowledgeable empire of fox people.

Ironman Mode is need for achievements, I think. It's the same for other Paradox games.
Are all Gaia worlds Holy worlds, or does it specifically say somewhere? Think I have an unclaimed one but don't want to settle if not.

It's a world trait, like Mineral Rich, etc. Even if you haven't met the Fallen Empire the trait is there, so you know not to unwittingly colonise it.

And yeah, Gaia planets appear elsewhere. I've found a tiny moon or two that are Gaia-level.

Alright, I'm attempting the balanced fleet option in this game.

Started with lasers, researching Torpedos/Point Defense now, and that just leaves kinetic weapons.

If you want to cheese the system, you can make two fleets; one with defensive options stacked up the ass and second with max weapons loadout - first one will take the brunt of the damage and the second will smack your opponent's fleet as long as you time the engagements correctly.

I fought a war where their two huge fleets just sat on their capital doing nothing. It was a simple matter of mopping up their smaller ones and bombarding them. I would have lost if they actually did something. This game needs more time to grow, this seems like a serious bug.

What are the advantages to the smaller hull sizes in this game? I'm ending up with almost all battleships and a couple of cruisers just due to battle attrition, is there a reason to replenish corvettes and destroyers?

Is soaking up damage for my battleships just their purpose?

Twelve hours into my first game still and I’m finally making progress. The alliance above the green/orange declared war on them, so I found this the perfect opportunity to backstab orange. Took all their worlds besides the capital after that I sued for peace. I wanted more, but green had an almost a 5k fleet and I know I couldn’t fight that atm. So I’ll let the other alliance wear them down and I’ll backstab again later.

Oh one part I'm finding rather annoying is trying to add a planet to a sector if there are ships there. The ship icon covers the addition icon, so you can't click it. That's why my sectors are all messed up.

I was tabbed for a while and instead of tabbing back in I was thinking ... why? What's the point?

I can tab back in now, send science vessels here, build something there, do quests that don't matter one bit, hit yes yes yes, be completely amazed by the stupidity of sectors, declare war on whoever and "play" with an AI thinking "Am I stronger than them? Attack, else don't attack". Like, the AI is literally braindead. It doesn't function.

The shell of the game looks polished as hell. Hell, it doesn't explain much and gives you that explorer feeling, finding something new all the time. Just look at all those "I have no idea what I'm doing" memes at the start. Sadly, once you're past that point there is 0 replayability. You're basically playing a Sim City stripped down to it's core element at that point.

They're great at evading medium and large weapons.
