Stellaris |OT| Imperium Universalis

Edit:

Reading through the comments on the update dev diary, they apparently also fixed that really annoying ethics divergence bug.

Good on Paradox, but also sure to cause outrage from certain corners of gamedom.

Yeah, I definitely did a double take when I saw a bunch of those types of mods up.

Yep, certain groups were already upset when the game just released that the premade United Nations of Earth empire in the game has a black woman as the first leader. These are the same people that whine about "outrage culture".

There was also a huge thread on the Paradox forum (now removed), that was dedicated to people complaining the game was giving them too many female leaders, including various arguments as to why this was "unrealistic".

People are dumb.

Anyway, is there a known combat bug right now? I had two fleets, of like 20k and 17k attacking a single military outpost, and they were just... not attacking. Like one ship out of hundreds was actually even attempting to attack, and they just sat like that for 10 minutes. I finally just had them both retreat, then come back... and they did the same thing. Another retreat/attack and they finally actually attacked.

Also, the other thing I am confused about, the Machine Consciousness is not showing up in my list of contacts at all. I was going to go to war with them next, but I don't see a way to declare war on them.

I destroyed two Stagnant Ascendancy cultures yesterday and took over like 1/4 of the galaxy map. I have so much energy and minerals coming in that I am basically capped on resources at all times. I actually colonized a planet that is essentially just a giant mineral silo. Feels like there's not enough for me to spend resources on. It would actually be nice if you could buy systems from other cultures! Or throw money at the small city states and have them join your empire willingly.

If I recall correctly, then that is fixed in the next patch, later this month.

There is no diplomacy with the Machine Consciousness, as the game will tell you if you click on their symbol on one of their systems. It's a bit disappointing, as they could at least have told me 'DEATH TO MEATBAGS' when contacted.

Ah, ok. So I can just go attack them I suppose. I guess I should revamp my fleets for the corvette nerf. With the overwhelming numbers I've had so far it may not even be a real issue.

Not only can you just attack them, but you also gain ownership of the planet if you land troops and take out the defending forces AND the synth pops on the planet (they rebel almost immediately). So you can use the MC to grab a bunch of planets from you neighbors.

Nice. Actually it seems like the machine consciousness has taken over just about every planet in the galaxy that wasn't already spoken for. Seems like a good way for me to mop some of that up.

Patch is looking good. I still think calling it "AI Aggressiveness" might not be the right call from what it appears to be doing systemically. That is based entirely on what the tooltip text says though, so who knows.

That person made his own Caucasian-only mod as well: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=688760542

I can see some people using such mods for role-playing purposes, but I really doubt that's what the other mod was made and used for.

So according to a Paradox developer posting on Reddit, the reason that the mod was removed was not that the mod was distasteful in itself, but that the author was apparently also expressing a (racist) agenda on the mod page that Paradox did not want to play host to.

Those comments..... *sigh*

They said the beta would be available by the end of the week, generally opt into betas by right clicking on the game in Steam.

So, it's time to go on a galaxy clearing crusade before the update. Awesome.

Really pleased to see the new tooltip info for which planets are in a system and how many tiles there are there.

Hopefully since they are adding sectors to the outliner they are also adding starbases.

With the new science modifier being based on planets AND pop, it'll be interesting to see how much difference owning 1 planet with 25 tiles vs 2 planets with 12 and 13 tiles will be. I tend to ignore anything under 10 anyway.

I've always wondered if devs shouldn't "borrow" some things directly from mods? In particular, the Beautiful Battles mod. It makes the game so much better. Maybe they need to get in touch with the author and give him things and then incorporate it.

Or are devs too proud? "Not invented here!"

I'm sure they do, others games do it all the time for things that are that relevant.

plenty of stuff in KSP for example is lifted straight from mods.

Someone in that thread found that the mod page was linking to this YouTube channel.

That thread has already claimed 4 "victims" .. they just cant stop themselves.

They probably do learn from and are inspired by mods, though it is probably also easier for them to simply leave a lot of stuff to the community. I would also suspect, in the case of Stellaris, that they are mainly focusing on UI improvements at the moment, over and above other types of graphical improvements.

Nice work!
This should be compatible with achievements, right?

I haven't checked, but it should be seeing that other flag packs are advertised as compatible.

Hmm I wonder if there is a bug with the alliance invite. I asked to be part of an alliance, the guy said I will talk to my allies about it but it's been like 2 years and I didn't get any news... I guess they don't like me as much as they pretend :p

New patch note:

* The AI will now ghost you if refusing your diplomatic offer is too awkward (based on traits and ethos).

No excuses, guys.
I'm bookmarking this video. I want to know why people think that the entire population of a continent would just end.

This has happened in the past with other devs. For instance, I know for a fact that before Obsidian added weapon modding to New Vegas, they asked permission from a guy that made a weapons mods mod for Fallout 3 to use his ideas.

I've been eying CKII and EUIV expansions that I don't own in the wake of Stellaris' mixture of fun factor and frustration, and while I've been seeing a lot of negative reviews for the major expansions I don't own, I'm hesitant to trust them because of the fandom's reputation.

so any ETA on the patch?

I'm starting a new game with hyperlane only to increase the strategic nature of the map and needs to gain systems for fleet movement, but if this is like a week away I don't think I can wait that long.

This may be a dumb question.

When the patch hits, will the contents of the patch only apply when you start a new game and not loading a previous save?

Well, the defensive war ticking timer is so overpowered...I've been in this long drawn out war trying to free my recently vassalized neighbor from the huge power on the other side. I came in the underdog and managed to smash their fleet completely to where they are now pathetic. I have landed on and occupied every planet in the vassal in question as well as carving a path of conquest all the way to their capital and yet I have -50 war score and I am -5 from being able to broker a white peace. I mean these are a people being invaded from all their neighbors now and having a vassal rise up and because of a ticking timer there is nothing that can be done to them. I hate sitting there, having their fleets flee so that I get limited points and watching the damn defensive war counter go faster than I can take their planets, even when I'm beseiging 4 at once...

I am wishing this weren't an ironman at the moment so I could just load my prewar save :P. I mean these guys needed to be taken down a peg and I've done that even if I haven't gotten what I wanted, but I really don't want to surrender to them at all and I really don't see why I should. I have the territory in question occupied. I have routinely defeated their once superior numbers (have a space battle score of ~100 to their 1 lol). I have landed on their capital planet. What gives?!

EDIT:

I guess my suggestion would be to let the counter only get so high or to have it slow down/end as planets get taken and fleets destroyed. As is, it is broken. I'm getting 1-2 points per battle and planet capture. There is no way I can keep up with the counter especially when I had to be cagey to pull their main fleet into a fortress trap and destroy it.

EDIT:

Managed to get a white peace! So dumb but at least it is over. Thing is, I bet they're doing this to the other invaders too so they'll just be able to rebuild after the war with no loss and a strong economic base. It is quite broken. They should have lost their vassal. It wasn't even an ambitious goal and I had to fight an all out and 'winning war' to get a draw...

So do I understand it correctly that the problem with the "Caucasian only" mod wasn't the fact that it was Caucasian only but because the author was a proved racist? Because I was thinking about doing a Warzone inspired game and for that I would need such mods to create Mishima (Asians only) for example.

Yes, he linked to racist stuff on the mod page it seems.

If you make a mod with just certain races for role-playing purposes, there is no problem.
