I'm worried they will turn him into something else. Parents might object to a robot turning into a gun. Imagine the merchandising nightmare.

Wasn't it already esbablished that he wasn't? I'm not following the movie too closely, but I recall hearing that. Either something about logical transformations (the whole shrinking issue) or not wanting a toy gun in this day and age... not sure.
