Stick placement on the hypothetical PS Portable

If the rumored PS Portable is real, what stick placement will it have?

asymmetrical is always superior

this is why the PS controllers suck

I've had people tell me symmetrical makes more sense because its less stress on each thumb, but that is retarded. you use your right hand thumb to push buttons 99.9% of the times, not control the stick

this is why xbox and the Nintendo pro controller are 1000000 x better than ps5 controller and one of the reasons I skipped ps5 this gen

the controllers are just awful and make no sense

Above the top, you wiggle them with your index fingers. Thumbs on the buttons either side of the screen and the middle, ring and little fingers work the triggers and back button.

How did Valve manage to come to the same conclusion then after a ton of testing and market research?
How did Nintendo manage to decide on asymmetrical?

one of them is wrong, and given how much praise the new Nintendo pro controller is getting, I'm guessing it was Valve

we recently had a thread on what the best controller is, and you'll see a surprising number of people voting for the new Nintendo pro controller despite it just releasing

sony will never admit their mistake and put the sticks in the right place.
They are in the right place. Heck i could never get used to how MS wrongly placed their sticks on the Xbox controller as i always get a cramp in my hands when trying to play a game. I ended up getting a Wingman adaptor for my XSX just to be able to play games like Gears and Halo with a real controller like the Dualsense.

I hope with the next generation of devices MS follow Sony in releasing a controller with properly placed sticks.

It's no coincidence that this is the only good controller Nintendo has ever made:

Never cared to be honest, I can play both perfectly fine.

But if they make it it'll be the same layout as their current gamepads.

The most comfortable handheld Ive used.

Sure, it's just a DualSense split in two with a large screen in the middle, but it turns out, that's the perfect design for a gaming device.

I'm ok with either way, but what makes me lean towards symmetrical is the dpad placement. I absolutely hate the dpad placement on controllers with asymmetrical sticks. It just feels terrible.

Ah yes. For my asymmetrical thumbs.
Do you rest your thumb over the buttons when you play most games?

If so, asymmetrical joysticks allows for symmetrical placement of thumbs

of course, I explained this in the post that you decided to quote but remove that part for some reason. It's only asymmetrical if you play twin stick shooters

I'm glad we can at least agree that the symmetrical layout is far superior for twin-stick shooters! :messenger_beaming:
agreed!

As I have said before, Sony should have moved to asymmetrical with the ps3 or ps4. But they didn't. And now they are stuck with symmetrical sticks as its part of their branding and identity. Therefore it will have symmetrical sticks

Most games I play I'm moving, and I use the sticks for those. So my thumbs are on the sticks 90% of the time. Face buttons are momentary presses.

Good news is you can get both layouts for every system out there.
This might just come down a personal preference as to where someone lays their thumb. My thumb hovers over the buttons 99% of the time.

Even when moving while playing games, I rarely use the right stick. For example, I'm currently playing Mario Odyssey for my first time and rarely use the right stick. I'll use it every here and there during specific context like certain fights or running with objects blocking my view, but more often than not I'm not touching it.

Only exception I can think of our twin shooters which I already said the ps controller is superior for. I just rarely play those games

No, they should not have.

You should have posted something more intelligent. But you didn't. And I quoted you and you are now stuck with your ignorant comment as part of your reputation identity.

On 2D games. Or do you map the camera to face buttons like a Dreamcast?

Symmetrical as it has been forever, asymmetrical is dumb and not as comfortable. The d-pad hasn't been a priority for how many generations now? Why use prime real estate for it.
