Hypothetical: Nintendo releases games on PC, but exclusive to own launcher with DRM and no modding. Would you still buy their games?

yeah right whatever GIF

Nintendo is probably the only one who could get away with it in 2025. But it won't happen because Nintendo won't bend the knee to multiplatformitis.

Then why are you arguing this on a scenario where anything is possible??

The OP asked "what if in this scenario". I said what I thought would happen in that scenario. I'm sorry you didn't like it, but the reason was to answer OP's question. I probably would not buy them because my guess is, in that scenario, the games don't stay interesting for very long, based on my personal understanding of the real life game business. After a period of hail mary and buying old games, nobody cares in 5-10 years. Best part: those who skipped games on consoles will say "their games were always this mid, I missed nothing".

If Nintendo ever went into the PC business I suspect they would partner up with someone like they did with DeNA for their stab at mobile gaming.
They would probably bungle it by going with Ubisoft.

That said, if they made a good effort (better yet published on Steam), I would buy a lot of games. So many ROM piracy sins to wash away, and a native version of BotW? Time to get a 480-500hz display.

Part of being on this Earth means being able to adapt.

So obviously, if I still like their games I will go through the proper channels in order to play them.

I only play on PC and Switch 2 now, if Nintendo had a PC launcher with all their games I would only play on PC.
So yes, of course.
Would be great for me but likely bad for Nintendo. I would never buy their hardware again.

depends on other factors.

like how does the family sharing situation look like? since none of the PC launchers, except Xbox and Steam, allow family sharing, even on the same PC.

if they'd have a decent family share system in place... yeah, why not?

Pc players have too much patience and like freedom. Nintendo is too controlling, they're not a match. Infact, they're opposites.

It would never happen, but if it did, most will just wait for an emulator.

Nintendo games being in Nintendo hardware is a significant part of what makes them good. They know what all players will have access to and makes games that use that.

And there's always emulation, which is proper PC gaming culture.

No, because I want physical copies. I don't care if the nintendo games have mods, on steam, or are even free. I will only continue to support them on console.

The ONLY way to get me to buy a PC version is if it is a physical copy for the PC which is so rare these days. and I mean true Physical copy.

I'd be interested, especially because I think the DRM would get cracked, and modding is happening regardless of what Nintendo wants.

Nintendo like the other 2 consoles has already eroded the idea of physical ownership, with the key cards just being a DRM unlocker you can resell.

My main reason is just preservation, because ever since my Wii virtual console purchases were lost I learned that digital purchases through Nintendo have a shelf-life...while PC doesn't because it has no real "generations" that invalidate the previous, and even if they're delisted somehow can be available through abandonware or even sailing the high seas if necessary.

I take every game purchase as an in the moment value proposition. No hard rules or anything. If Nintendo said "Donkey Kong. PC. $64. Plus we made a cute launcher for you to install". Frankly, I'd be flattered.

My answer is.... will be depending if I want the game or not ? like any game on the planet ? i do not care about a company name. if the game is good and I like it, I will buy it. otherwise pass.

But ill say this, depending on the release time. if its same day as PC, then I am selling my switch 2 and one system PC to rule them all. + one of these handheld devices that can run these games with a decent performance.

I am not interested in buying a brand name. lately I am being drawn into devices like AYN odin 2 pro, anbernic RG556 or even smaller low power devices like Miyoo mini to play older emulation games and I having a blast with these games more than big releases on PC on a 5090.

"" its amazing how many hours I put on a game like Ridge Racer on PSP via portable emulation devices lately. ""

Nintendo would never port games to PC. People need to accept that reality and stop hypotheticals or conversations that they expect Nintendo to do so. It's not their MO.

Knowing Nintendo, leaving behind the fact it will never happen, but if somehow did, they'd probably offer the games a full price without ever doing even a measly sale once

Depends on the price. Always online only for 5 bucks tops.

Since this is Nintendo, they'd never sell a 1st party game for 5 bucks.

So no. I wouldn't use one.

It would also harm my Switch 2 experience tbh. I would end up selling my Switch 2, because I couldn't stand playing an eventual XB4 at upscaled 720p with shaky 30fps while it's in glorious 4K/60+ on PC.
