Been peeping through this blog on to notice this:

SEGA
‘AfterBurner Next’ (LindBergh)
‘Virtua Fighter 5’ (LindBergh)
‘OutRun Coast-2-Coast’ (LindBergh)
‘SEGA Rally 3’ (LindBergh)

Namco
‘Tekken 5.1’ (System 258)
‘Druaga Online: The Story of Aon’ (CHIHIRO)

Capcom
‘Street Fighter 4’ (A-Wave)

This is seem to be either speculation or rumor, but this is the blog itself:

Any example of what AtomisWave can do?

Check out the latest SNK/SAMMY gams and the entire Dreamcast lineup.. It is a capable 2D machine and should have no real problem doing highres sprites with SF3 animation IMO.

It's almost an overkill for 2D, but Atomiswave is so cheap so why not.

As the industry prepares for 720p and 1080i, Capcom prepares for 480p!

NAOMI/Atomiswave is perfectly capable of outputting 720p in 2D games. It's the 2D nature of ganmes like SF series that makes the prospect cost/labor prohibitive and ultimately, pointless.

I have my doubts it's so powerful as some of you claim...Not resolution wise but animation wise...It already had its problems managing the 3rd Strike conversion...

Is there a cost analysis for 2D game animation somewhere? Just a detailed breakdown of what makes them so expensive to say... a typical animated feature?

Atomiswave has 32MB of main RAM and 16MB if VRAM, so it should hold double the amount of animation that DC could hold.

I don't know if there is one, but since game production is still measured in few millions of dollars and a teypical animated feature now days costs tens (and sometimes near hundred) of millions, one would hope that 2D fighting game animation workload is a whole lot lighter than features.

It would take 4 times as much RAM as the DC to animate 480p sprites with Third Strike quality (if TS and GGX both use all available memory), so I guess we won't even see that.

DC version already does 480i. To go from 480i to 480p, all you'd need is to up the VRAM frame buffer. You don't need 4x RAM of DC to get 3rd Strike.

Keep in mind CPS3 games were only like 50ish MB and above for the whole game.

Even if it shows, Capcom's going to cut corners. We all know it. That's what they've been doing best lately.

Though I do wish SF4 would mark a genesis for the series. After it, it's the game that got me into fighters.

Here`s hoping for 3rd Strike quality dedication. New sprites, perfected gameplay, still the most balanced fighting game out there (nevermind all the Chun), and still the most fluid animation of any 2d fighter.

I still remember seeing Guilty Gear for the first time and wowing at the hi-rez sprites, then being confused with the broken animation.

Dreamcast.

Atomiswave is the exact same architecture as Dreamcast and NAOMI (SH4 CPU, PowerVR2DC graphics chip, Hitachi audio) only difference is, a slightly different configuration of RAM memory.

Atomiswave = 1998 technology released in 2003.

That blog entry cites, as its source, an English website that cites, as its source, the same source for the original reports about Street Fighter 4 appearing at the show.

The only thing they can't really fix is balance. They can try, but no matter how much they play their own game and try to balance it, there is always shit that isn't known until tons of people get their hands on the game for an extended period of time. Did they know how much crazy damage Genei-Jin could do? Did they realize you could in fact link Makoto's SAII (I think they didn't, can't be sure)? They can try their best but if we get 3rd Strike level balance, I'll be happy.

What I want is more playing styles. I love how you play every character in the game differently, Makoto being the obvious unique character. Even Ryu, Ken and Akuma are played totally different game from one another (if you try to play Ryu like Ken you aren't gonna make it far in high level play). A few new styles and I'll be happy.

Eh Play them differently? short short super, poke with forward/roundhouse, throw?

The reason why it's so expensive to create high resolution 2D fighters is that traditonally the characters are drawn at the pixel level and not drawn then scanned in. There's been discussion that scanned art requires too much touch up to make it worthwhile. So anything more then even 480p would require ungodly amounts of work using the old technique and there might also be a lack pixel artists in this age of 3D/CG.

Capcom is going to be using Atomicwave to show off the game. Just like MS and Sony used G5 PCs to show off what PS3 and Xbox 360 can do at E3. With the direction Capcom is taking SF4 which Ive read a few tidbits, Atomicwave would be too out of date to use.

The atomiswave is a piece of shit. If this rumor is true I will burn down Capcom's offices.

Of course, I firmly believe that that the chances of SF4 coming out are close to nil. :P

Jett I see you're a 3s player or you just like the pic in your avatar? Mark my words, Atomicwave is only going to be used to show clips of the game running.

Nah, I am a huge 3S fan. The pic in my avatar is from Capcom Vs. Snk 2, though. :P Well, we'll see...if SF4 exists I find it odd that they're going to just use an atomiswave arcade machine to display a video of SF4, why not just do a presentation on a big screen on DVD or whatever.

Whatever...I still don't believe all these SF4 rumors.

Well, they DID announce a new fighting game will be shown at the AM show this week. I'm still holding out hope.

Err, that can describes nearly half of the 3s cast.

(this post made with help (aka shamelessly ripped off from) from the srk forums topic called "for players who play Ryu like Ken")
Ken and Ryu are almost completely different fighters. You can't play them with the same strategy inversely and expect the same results. Anyone who does hasn't played enough 3S.

Ryu just hasn't got the tools Ken has, and the player has to play smarter and better instead of going for all out offense like Ken players do. Ryu's Rushdown is far more risky than Ken's since he doesn't have any normals that move him forward, and so he's not as much as a threat around sweep range and closer. Sure you CAN do the exact same thing with both characters, but then why not just pick Ken in the first place since he has the better tools for that sort of play?

I dunno, the more I play with both Ryu and Ken I see how Capcom tried to switch their similar styles to make them completely different. Ryu has a good kara, Ken doesn't. Ken's d.mk is much faster, Ryu's EX hadoken is much faster. At the scrub level they're the same though.

Same here, ive been playing 3s since 99. I part of the shoryuken boards. You should match me on live. My XBL name is Projectjustice.

I believe these SF4 news due to the fact that Capcom has stated that they would be releasing a sequel to SF3 on the 20th anniversary of SF.

that SF4 discussion on SRK went absolutely nowhere (well, actually it went to SFA3 story talk...like always)

How do you know anything, if I might ask?

I don`t like people spouting opinions like they have some weight to them when they know nothing.

SF4 just ain't happening.

OR, if it does happen, it'll probably break our hearts since 1. Capcom USA owns the game now and it won't be made by the same people who did the rest of the series and 2. It'll almost certainly be 3D.

why is everyone saying that Capcom USA will be making the game? Has Capcom J really fired all their arcade staff?

Capcom USA churned out Maximo, that was a cool game.

I couldn`t really care less if it was just SF3: 4th time around the block. I need new SF. Not a VS game, nor a 3D fest. I want one on one balanced, technical gameplay. Make it happen Capcom.

Capcom Japan sold the rights to Street Fighter to Capcom USA. Capcom USA is a separate corporation from Capcom Japan with it's own control over development and its own teams

Can someone change the size of this gif to match the limits set by the mods?

It really doesn't matter if Capcom Japan sold it to Capcom USA. They can still have programers from Capcom Japan work on it.

My froathing demand for SF4 is so high that id the final product was just at SF III series level I would be more than happy.
The 320*240 resolution doesn't bother me as long as the animation is as good as it was on SF III. Fuck GG and its glorious resolution but pathetic animation !

The only thing I demand is a new "revolution". Just like SF III was to the SF2/Z series, I want new mechanics, new characters and new ideas while keeping the things that have made the series so great like the the 3P/3K configuration and basic mechanics.
