Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

Wow, that trailer was... kinda bad. It just felt really cliche. Definitely a step down from the SFIV reveal. And maybe I just have rookie eyes but I thought the footage was SFIV at first.

Anyway, yay for PC. rip xbone. Quite surprised by its exclusion.

Might as well say no "Dave and Busters" version? Arcades are dead.

I can tell you of 6 arcades that opened in the States in the past few months, one of which just opened in NY and my team will be interviewing the owner about his thoughts on this and if he'll get it if / when it hits the states.

Have there been Tomb Raider-level meltdowns yet?
No just a bunch if salty posters that pretend that Capcom has never done this before (RE, Monster Hunter, Dead Rising) and that a Capcom IP being exclusive to a specific platform is completely unheard of.

I have both xb1 and ps4...there is no comparison. The ps4 controller feels cheap.

I disagree. I don't need another controller to alter my opinion of the controller. It doesn't feel cheap to me. If an Xbox One controller feels better, that doesn't somehow diminish the PS4 controller.

Ono has said more than once capcom does not want spend the money on a new SF game or at least any time soon.
If we get a new SF early thanks to some money from Sony so be it.

There ar people in this very thread with access to more information that have already said that yea, Ono was trolling you.

That wouldn't surprise me if true to be honest. Street Fighter V could have simply been SFIV with new levels + 1080p and people (including me) would have still been happy to see the series stay alive.

The ds3 was rock solidly built (in comparison) and had a battery life that was less like a handheld consol and more like a wireless controller

Oh come on, yes the ds4 has worse battery life but it is still good for a good 8 hours straight.....for most people it is never an issue. I have done 6 hour raids in destiny the controller is never an issue.

There's a couple reasons why this is not as bad as MS and Tomb Raider:

1. PS4 doesn't have half the install base/marketshare of the Xbone, so the majority of console owners aren't getting blown out with this deal like was the case with TR. It also makes a lot more fucking sense because of the current console marketshare. TR deal doesn't make any sense whatsoever! :/

2. Street Fighter has never had the vast majority of the fighting game hardcore on Xbox, it's always been on Playstation and associated with PS. So again, the hardcore fans of the series aren't getting bummed out like was the case with TR, which was also a traditional PS franchise. I don't think you can say the same with SF and Xbox, in all honesty.

But I know that doesn't make this deal any harder to swallow if you are a Bone owner.

PS4 doesn't have half the install base/marketshare of the Xbone

Can you confirm this? What were all the sales for? Are you just joking?

But the series is thriving at this moment, SF4 Ultra is still chugging along swimmingly.

More FFXIII tier, but it was still pretty good:

They've gone and done it... they've gone and woke the sleeping dragon now.

Sony should have left well enough alone and now they're going to get it. It's not enough that they're bleeding benjamins from practically every crevice of their existence. Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market. Why pay to keep a game out of the hands of as many gamers as possible? Why not put that money into first-party studios and games instead?

I know, I know... this is the way the business goes as they say. Well, they forced Microsoft's hands with their early sales lead and Microsoft only responded with an NPD whooping (source: musings thread) by way of incredible deals and value. Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

Gears remake collection. A true Banjo sequel. Halo 5 beta in the hands of gamers. The next Bayonetta, Dead Space and Crysis as exclusives. Those are the kinds of blockbuster response announcements I expect, and then some. You hit Microsoft with a jab, you best be ready for a flurry of uppercuts coming at you in response.

This post is so good.

Parity clauses, poor sales, weak hardware, difficult to code for…

There are plenty of good reasons to avoid doing business with MS; take your pick. There's no reason to assume money changed hands here. Years of dealing with MS have made some of y'all way too cynical. I know Sony have published plenty of games over the years, but have they ever paid outright for exclusivity? Like, just handed cash to another publisher to keep their game off of other platforms?

Yeah, the PS2 GTAs off of the original Xbox. Good grief, the contorting people do around here to try and make themselves feel better about these kind of deals is absurd.

Are you seriously suggesting that Capcom couldn't afford to make a new iteration in their own IP?
So who is funding RER2 and REMake HD if Capcom are suddenly strap for cash? And the PC version of SF5 is coming because....

Pretty clear it's either Sony paying to keep the game off the X1 or this is some bullshit announcement/marketing exclusive. Stop trying to make excuses.

So take this with a grain of salt but I just heard from a friend that its basically the situation with Dead Rising. Ono was asked a while ago if he was working on SF5 and he said that Street Fighter though his biggest passion at Capcom isn't getting the greenlight and that it was a miracle he got to make 4.

Sony swooped in. Funded. Now we have SF5
Same with Dead Rising relatively successful IP for Capcom but not where they want to leverage their resources.
Microsoft swoops in. Funds. Dead Rising 3.

If it is exclusive to the PS4 for consoles, then I think Capcom's management problems are far deeper than any of us envisioned. They seem to have almost no confidence to go in alone on any big release this generation. They would have canned Dead Rising 3 without Microsoft's support, and if they can't even be bothered to take a risk on Street Fighter V of all things without Sony being a partner, then the company really has a dismal future.

Yep. Capcom has shifted their focus away from consoles in a major way. People saying that SF5 selling 6 Million+ meaning something for whether a SF5 would exist without an exclusive partner in today's market haven't seen Capcom's shift towards the handheld/mobile/F2P model.

Xbox never did that right? right!? can i play Gears of War on PS? Halo? Sunset OD? Tomb Raider 2? want me to mention more? Each of them do this. Get over it just like i did and never played any one of those MS exclusives.

None of those are similar to this. The first three were new IPs and Tomb Raider is coming to PS4/PC eventually, but SF5 isn't coming to XB1 at all. The Tomb Raider timed exclusivity is terrible as well though and Microsoft rightfully got lambasted over it.

lol.

People really need to stop roasting the console makers for going after games for their platform.

Clearly he's lying though. Miles probably knows the whole story.

“Personally, I don’t want to stop Street Fighter’s main numbered series at IV,” says Ono. “Realistically speaking, developing a title for next-gen consoles requires a huge amount of staff members, and a large sum of money. The issue of money also applies to everyone else, as it’ll be required to invest in a new console, game, and arcade stick.”

Somehow means there was absolutely no way we could have made the game unless somebody funded it? It couldn't mean Capcom isn't willing to invest until the marketshare is bigger or something like that?

Capcom is slipping. What series would get more priority than that when it comes to sequels? Possibly RE, but that doesn't outsell SF, does it?
