Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

Is that actual SFV footage from the teaser? Looks very similar to it's previous installments. I mean, I expected a little more difference in the graphics department, but at the same time, I could probably understand why they went that route.

More than 70 pages amassed in a few hours on the first page of gaming side. And that doesn't include the fgw thread.

The majority of the discussion taking place is about it being exclusive, not the game itself, how the FGC will view it, their views on it, how it can differentiate itself from SF4 mechanically, you know, discussions about what the game is and could be.

This is a very weird exclusivity "deal". When they say "PC" they are actually saying "Windows", i.e., a Microsoft platform. So then, why not releasing it for Xbox One too?

Here's my theory: The intention for the new SFV is to unify online, i.e., you can play against anyone, regardless of the platform they are using. And we all know this is something that Xbox Live doesn't allow and Microsoft are really stubborn about it (remember the Steamworks/Portal 2 PS3/PC "exclusivity")

I'd like for that to be the case. It'd be good to play against my PS4 friends using my PC.

Also a large part of the anger regarding the Tomb Raider situation was due to how both MS and Crystal Dynamics clouded and obfuscated the terms of exclusivity to the point where nobody understood it.

Let's wait and see how straightforward Capcom is about this.

There is no anger because this stuff will be the new normal.

Like I said early on in this thread. People cheered and said, "Competition, yay!" Well here the fuck we are choo-choo!

There are a handful of actual cases of hypocrisy that people have pointed out but the drive-by blanket statements are needless and harder to prove, yes.

Right. I think if I could try to succinctly state where I stand on the issue, I honestly don't have a problem with people formulating opinions about exclusive deals. However, I find most of the meta-discussion surrounding it to be largely terrible.

It's a shame that this thread is MUCH more about the exclusivity than the GAME itself.

But to be fair, what did they show that's worth Talking about for the game itself? Was there anything different besides Chun Li going for a more elaborate ender to her aerial stomps?

I guess that really shows how early this all is... I wonder how much it'll change over the coming months?

That's probably the foundation, yes. It's subject to change.

Do you remember SFIV reveal? It wasn't pretty lol.

Gives me nostalgia for the good old days of the PS2.

When one console is dominating the market, you suck it up and play ball, because exclusives are going to come to that platform. This is how it's always been.
If you can't see how that domination resulted in Sony making bad cocky decisions for years with the PS3 then you are blind. They needed to be humbled and getting them back to the point of cockiness doesn't do consumers any good.

Excited for this announcement but a little disappointed that it looks just like a minor graphical step up from 4. The style of 4 was so incredibly damn unique and from the tiny bit they showed it doesn't look like they are pushing the creativity much at all with the visuals in this game. Ah well. It's still more Street Fighter!

There are so many varying factors that you can't possibly do that. The people who were mad there could have been just more vocal than the people who are mad about this deal. Fanbases for TR and SF could just be different temperamentally. Userbase between PS4 and Xbone users is different (obviously people who don't own the disadvantaged console will not be as vocal or may not post at all), etc. etc.

If you want to say there's some kind of hypocrisy the only way to do it is to find the hypocrites and point them out.

The community at large took issue with a third-party exclusive deal. You can't have missed the swell of general negativity around it.

I'm feeling less and less like a beta tester every day.

OMFG, There is a exclusive third party game on the PS4! Is this a timed exclusive or legit exclusive? This sucks for Xbone owners but welcome to the perspective of PS3 owners past gen.

Is PS4 the lead platform for third party devs?

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like the art style of SF4 and SF5.
Everyone looks like they took a bunch of steroid pills!

Right. I think if I could try to succinctly state where I stand on the issue, I honestly don't have a problem with people formulating opinions about exclusive deals. However, I find most of the meta-discussion surrounding it to be largely terrible.

Even if I disagree with the whole "this is just the way it is" line of thought, the "u salty?" dismissals are the biggest waste of a reply. I predominately own Sony products and find this to be displeasing to me personally and unfortunate for Xbox One owners. I don't see how that's "salt".

I was expecting maybe a IV Ultra port, not V. Ultra didn't come out that long ago so could V be a long way off?
People still care about fighting games? I'm sure this would have been relevant in 1996
This has to be a joke. I don't know how you be 'hardcore' enough to post on gaming forums but you haven't heard of fighting game culture, etc.

It makes me sad thinking that if this was a Xbone exclusive, everyone would be rioting with the moneyhat and that. But it's for the PS4, so everything's OK.

Anyway, this is huge, but maybe just region/timed exclusive?

it makes me sad xbox pulled it off in the first place. i see this as retaliation to xbox's initial exclusivity deal with tomb raider.

let's be realists here. xbox will not stop doing it even if gamers were so upset. they started it and they will keep doing it.

what do you think playstation will do? to just sit and let something like tomb raider be moneyhatted? who knows what xbox will make exclusive next?

again, just being realistic. it isn't like playstation can do anything about preventing something like tomb raider to go exclusive (timed, or even marketed as an xbox exclusive) seeing that having the bigger install base is not enough to stop pubs and xbox.

that's the reality that we are in.

I'm not really seeing why this game should be a console exclusive. I own a PS4 and will likely not own a Xbox One this generation, but I don't really get why this game shouldn't be multiplat.

Could be a lot of things. Most fighting games tend to sell better on Playstation compared to Xbox for whatever reason, and as of right now the PS4 seems to be the most popular "next-gen" console worldwide. Sony's also likely pitching in money and development assistance, so Capcom may have taken all this information and decided they can forego the development costs and potential profits of an XB1 version without much impact to their bottom line. I believe Arc System Works made a similar decision not too long ago.

Feel free to find some of that hypocrisy as evidence. While you at it, might as well look for those that praised the TR deal and are angered by this one.

I've been around long enough to know that claiming "hypocrisy" in a forum full of thousands of unique point of views is never a good idea.

You both are absolutely right but I just don't see how one could look at the tone and general progress of topics where Sony and Microsoft both do a thing and think to themselves, yeah, this place is totally unbiased in aggregate. but last time I made the suggestion that changing one word in the OP would immediately and significantly change the entire tone of this thread (and turn the first page into a cynical moneyhat.gif graveyard), I did get banned because that's somehow threadwhining. so I guess I ought to just let it be.

For what it's worth I spent a minute actually looking for specific examples of hypocrisy in this thread (even though I meant that this forum's discourse in general between these two consoles is somewhat hypocritical, and not that the same exact people were in both threads with opposite opinions), and I mean the very first post in here is "Dropping dem early bombs." His first post in the TR thread? You guessed it. McMahonMoreMoney.gif. Though context is very different between these threads too, I suppose. Most of the happy faces and Bombdrop victims in here are just happy SFV is a thing.

Okay another street fighter, eh I'll wait for a better capcom game announcement, hopefully that dragon's dogma online is an indication.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Sony pulled a Nintendo (what they did with Bayonetta 2) with this game. They were working on it, but didn't have the funds to finish it. Then Sony to the rescue. It would explain the Ryu Cab thing back during the PS4's launch.

Are we really going to argue that the most popular fighting game around was ever in any danger of not being released? Really? Is this really how far we are willing to go in order to somehow, someway justify this?

For the record, as a gamer I despise third party exclusives. I hate them. I do recognize the business realities of the industry though which is why I have absolutely no issue with Sony securing an exclusive for their platform, if in the end it proves to be an exclusive of course. I do have an issue with the people who ripped MS to shreds for securing the Tomb Raider deal and are now singing a different tune. Even if the game proves to not be an exclusive in the end, the double standards on display are pathetic. Not talking about you Neoxon, I don't know how you reacted then so please don't take it personally.

YOU haven't played or even seen the final version of SFV. That's why people are laughing at your opinion. You're comparing a game that's been out for a year with one that isn't even finished and saying one looks better. That's a joke of an opinion.

SFV is using an almost identical art style to SFIV, and I hate it.

OMFG, There is a exclusive third party game on the PS4! Is this a timed exclusive or legit exclusive? This sucks for Xbone owners but welcome to the perspective of PS3 owners past gen.

What? The PS3 had far more 3rd party exclusives than the 360.

The exclusivity is the talking point, more so than the game.

The majority of the discussion taking place is about it being exclusive, not the game itself, how the FGC will view it, their views on it, how it can differentiate itself from SF4 mechanically, you know, discussions about what the game is and could be.
So a bunch of people with zero interest are talking about exclusivity? *goes back to fgw
