The spiritual successor of
I know Street Fighter 1994 has its' fans, I can understand why. It does have elements in it that I do enjoy. People often equate it to being a stealth GI Joe movie with Street Fighter characters, and in many ways, it is that. But, when I was 13-14 years old, I just could never get into it as a movie. Even back then it just seemed to hokey overall. I skipped it in theatres, probably saw it on home video a few times. It just didn't do anything for me overall.
I remember watching Mortal Kombat at the cinema when I was like 14, back in 1995, and I remember enjoying that movie far more, despite it still not having any blood and gore, like the games. Mortal Kombat 1995 was a really fun mash up of Enter the Dragon (it steals most of the plot from this movie), Big Trouble in Little China and other 70's and 80's era kung fu movies. Plus the soundtrack was bonkers for its' day. The movie also influenced the later games. Turning Kano into an Australian, creating the rivalry between Sonya.
Sadly the guy who played Shang Tsung passed away a week or two ago.
Shame that Annihilation was a complete shit show.
As for this trailer... well, it looks like a Street Fighter movie, but I am still on the fence with it. To be honest, I do feel the same way about Mortal Kombat II as well. Maybe they will surprise me?
