Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Free update arcade mode & more; $40 game+DLC bundle

I wish there was a $20 option for us vanilla SFV owners to upgrade the base roster to full AE one.

Though with the way CFN works, I guess that would be pointless.

Is there any word about whether digital owners will get the season 1 and 2 characters for free? I bought it at launch, so it's not like I can buy a used copy for a tenner to upgrade.

I feel a right plonker buying the extra characters now (mainly since I've not really played it much). That could be lessened if I got another set for free.

No you won't get season 1 and 2 characters for free.

:(

If you haven't bought any of the DLC then you can just play on your main account and get all the characters through FM. I'm assuming you're not really interested in buying costumes?

Not to side-track, but a lot of games are designed to be pad-friendly these days. Even those that aren't, you'll still see pad players winning tournaments as often as stick players, if not more. If you're comfortable with pads, use them.
I don't play MVC2, which I love because I blister the hell out of my thumb quickly using the Dpad. I don't know if it's how I play, but I make it through half of arcade mode and then hey I'm playing like shit now because my thumb is blistered.

That said, if Capcom decides to give the middle finger to Sony and release this on Xbox (like they should have done from the beginning), I'll happily double-dip and buy SFV again to play with my Xbox friends...
I think Xbox is about the last place this game can make money off new sales... Too bad it's the only place Capcom won't go.
If Capcom wants to get sued to hell and back I highly encourage them to make an Xbox One version.

So this is a NEVER coming to xbox?
This is a Sunset Overdrive situation iirc.

I'm not sure who this is for...
Is there really an audience on PC or PS4 that doesn't have SFV that will buy it now that it has an Arcade Mode?
Like, we're talking 1 million plus?

Are people who already own base SFV going to run out and buy another copy?

I just don't see it.

People bought SSF4 and USF4 that never bought vanilla. There's plenty of people who only kind of like the FG genre but not enough to pay $60.

Hell, I only got MKXL because it was a ton of content and I got it for $25.

Hint of a new stage or meaningless whatever for trailer purposes?

I do think a digital upgrade would be kinda cool. Though it sure wouldn't be $20. I could see $30 if they did something like that. It'd be similar to SF4 upgrades.

Seems like between this, my unopened for 3 years MKX, Marvel vs Capcom 2 (fuck Infinite), my PS3 fighters, DBZF and Gundam Versus I should just invest in an arcade stick already.
SFV is very pad friendly. A bunch of the top players are pad users. Punk, Nuckledu, Snake Eyez, MenaRD, Idom to name a few, use DualShock 4.

I've bought a few stages/characters with FM, but no I haven't bought any DLCs form PSN since (unlike any other game that I've played thus far) it wouldn't work on my main EU account. (I bought the game digitally with my US account)

$30 would be too much since AE itself is $40. Maybe $24.99?

Base SFIV didn't work with SSFIV and USFIV... Base SFV works with Arcade edition and is ridiculously cheap second hand (and new)...

They could sell an S1 + S2 upgrade and call it the AE update. That's basically what it is minus the free stuff.

I'm sure a big aaa dev company like Capcom can handle this no sweat and UE4 engine is very smooth streamlined for updates and development

I don't think you understand how complex and expensive it is to make a videogame if you believe adapting a shipped game into an updated engine is "no sweat".

Amazing news. Looks great. Let's see if it is enough. It may be a bit too late, but it looks pretty awesome, so maybe it will pull in another half-million people or so...

So will I actually get this for free if I have base Street Fighter V with none of the DLC? Seems like a good fucking deal, especially since I got it on sale for $20.

Yes, you'll be getting the Gallery, Arcade Mode, Extra Battle, new gameplay mechanics (second V-Trigger and balance updates) for free, along with the UI overhaul and some other stuff they probably still have to announce. What you will definitely not be getting will be the DLC characters, costumes and stages, unless stated otherwise in the future (for the stages and some costumes, don't think they'll give some DLC characters for free).

As a casual player, I've always had a good time and plenty of matches at the shallow end of the pool (bronze-silver) with sfv. Maybe this rerelease can help shake some of the undeserved reputation for being experts only.

I wonder if there will be some sort of deal for the original owners. I dont want to pay $60 to get S1 and S2 characters.

I am going to guess S1 and S2 character packs are going to get a discount between now and before this edition launches.

They will automatically do that because of the Season 3 pass. You'll likely be able to see past season's offered for $9.99 to $14.99. Maybe even lower as the game gets on in years.

So... Why even buy a new version? Wouldn't it be better to just buy the original?
Original+S1&S2 chars = $80 ($40 during sale)

New version (s1+s2 chars) = $40

I suppose you could pick up the retail version for $10 but the season passes will still cost you over $30

It's $40.

It's actually cheaper to buy this thing than to get season passes.

Thats what I mean. I already own the game so I wonder if there will be a "pay set price to unlock everything".

Knowing Capcom they probably want existing owners to spend $40 too.
