Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Free update arcade mode & more; $40 game+DLC bundle

I guess this is fine if you play Street Fighter as an e-sport, but I believe the vast majority of Street Fighter players loved the pick up and play aspect of local co-op at the arcade and the home.

It's a funky experiment to apply the grinding system of games built around economies of leveling and item collection to a game where all the characters are static.

And in that sense it's a really hard game to love. In lieu of players becoming absolutely committed to the game to grind and unlock content, you have a very very very expensive game.

I don’t play SFV as an e-sport. I play it for the pick up and play aspect I loved back in the day. I come home from work, hop on for 20 minutes, and hop off like a responsible salary man. I’ve earned almost 1.6 million FM playing like this, enough for 16 characters, when only 11 have been released.

Earning Fight Money is no grind if you play the game regularly, and if you don’t play the game regularly you don’t need all that damn Fight Money anyway.

I'm actually surprised the Capcom took my advice (jk). Everything they did with SFVAE is *exactly* what I've been saying they should do. All of it. Though they went a lot farther with Arcade Mode than I ever would have thought they would.

Yeah probably.

Personally I'd prefer something similar to the bottom left.

Yeah, I really dig that Blue Mary look. Spunky and sporty but more grown up than her dumb sailor uniform.

They won't do anything like that.

Yeah, maybe I might play a Street Fighter game. I usually skip fighting games, but I enjoyed my time with Injustice 2 this year, so this package feels like a great entry point.

Wait a minute.

The original roster of 16 fighters is joined by 12 new challengers from Season 1 and 2, bringing the current roster count up to 28. The 12 additional characters are not available for free to current Street Fighter V players, but can be accessed using earned Fight Money or purchased in-game currency.

Will the arcade edition have these characters on the disc and unlocked or not?
Sorry if I'm being dumb or have misread something somewhere? Will I have to grind/buy fight money to obtain the 12 DLC characters when I buy this game?

The dlc characters are not on the disc but if you buy the arcade edition you get the codes to download them.

That's a little weird. I guess that's a product of them posing this as an update to existing players or something. Regardless I'm feeling much better about this now.

If arcade was release version I wonder how well sfv would have sold.... probably surpassed all of sfiv put together.
I think it will meet the 2m FY sales target but not much after.

SFV will never touch SFIV no matter how well-executed. SFIV is a once-a-lifetime lightning in a bottle after a long Capcom FG drought, this is not just my opinion but also the EVO founders.

Wait, am i not going to be given all s1&2 characters for free come January (i have sfv)? I gotta grind for em no matter what? I know fm is easy to get, just curious

Lol a lot of confusion it seems. If you buy the arcade edition you get those characters for free via download codes. If you have the original game you get the free update but no you still have to grind or pay for S1 and 2 characters.

You'll need to buy them, but you probably just want to wait for a sale for Season 1 and Season 2 (either via codes on ebay or on PSN/Steam) because both will probably be available for 10 bux each.

Bad news: Udon in SF again.

Huh, good point. Although I don't know which is worse, we'll have both Udon & worst-timeline Akiman art highlighting the cutscenes. Talk about inconsistent art design.

EDIT: NVM, already forgot about CFE (Shinkiro + Udon). Par for the course.

FWIW, I earned all characters in game and i still have enough for FM for Zeku. If you logged in every Friday for the challenges (along with the Capcom giveaways) these past 1 years, you would certainly have had enough FM to buy both S1 and S2 characters

Sounds like it'll be worth the wait. Very glad it's going to be more than just the standard ladders, though I'd have been more than happy with just those. The upgrades also give me hope that Capcom might choose to salvage MvC Infinite eventually too.

Motherfuckers were telling me you'll be waiting forever when I said I'll just wait for the updated version, but look this. Y'all ain't got shit to say now! Now what, what, WHAT?

They're going to be updating this game until 2020, this doesn't have the upcoming Season 3 or any future seasons.

Also this just has download codes and is no different than the 2017 Digital Deluxe.

Who said that? We were all saying they wouldn't make another stand-alone SSFIV (i.e. vanilla owners had to shell out $ again for balance/system updates).

Seems like just the revitalization SFV needed.

I didn't have a good PC or a PS4 when SFV came out but even if I did I would have skipped it. Now that I've had a PS4 a few months I'd been wondering if SFV was going to get a new edition considering there are so many DLC characters now, and I dont wanna fork over too much for all the ones I'm interested in.

Thank you Capcom.
Also SFV fans, is Juri good in this game? I tried to main her to the best of my abilities in IV.

I like SFV juri more than SF4, but she is almost the bottom 3 characters lol. Somehow Infiltration started doing really good using her, so maybe there is a chance.

Am I wrong or there was a collaboration of sort for Tatsunoko vs Capcom too?

That said - personal opinions of course - worst Bengus (not Akiman) is still better than that Udon level of quality, to me.

Boggles my mind they didn't get that Kit/Kiki artist (hot Ryu + Chun Li alt cover, SFV concept art...) to illustrate the endings, and even have Bengus himself to retouch/remake his own previous stuff for this re-launch. :/

Two of her charges being just combo fillers is awful, Juri was ass in most of her SFIV career, but she was definitely more fun to play.

You made the same post yesterday. This is just the latest update to the deluxe edition. Everyone is getting the arcade edition extras as they said would happen from the start. Its just a good way to advertise the update to the game. If they just added the arcade update like a patch people wouldn't be aware. But take the deluxe edition (game plus currently fully released season passes), change name and talk big about the update.... Bam. People like yourself now think waiting was the right thing to do and you proved everyone wrong. In truth they have just done exactly what they said they would from day one.

Marketing is clever like that.

Its kinda an oddity then?

Ohh I just looked on PSN an yeah much of the stuff is buyable on there for real money. I guess the fighter network thing is for getting the stuff for free. Still comes across as lame. Like, all patches for the game include all the new stuff they're putting out regardless of if you're ever gonna buy it or not anyway right?

So its already on your HDD so why not make it unlockable through just the game itself? Worry that people'll hack their game saves or something to get infinite FM? If thats the case this whole network thing comes across as little more than DRM!

It doesn't sound very convenient ta buy a game with the promise of stuff included, get the game, turn it on, an find said stuff not there. Then go through hoops to actually get it >_<

It is as much of a DRM as it is in games like R6:S, For Honor, MOBAs, The Crew, etc.
Whenever you can earn purchasable DLC for free, there needs to be server side checks.

Motherfuckers were telling me you'll be waiting forever when I said I'll just wait for the updated version, but look this. Y'all ain't got shit to say now! Now what, what, WHAT?

People were saying that you can wait forever till a "Complete Edition" gets released. You know the typical "I'll wait for the GOTY edition with all content".
AE is practically a refresh of the retail version to include current content.

People have a lot to say to you... mainly that you are being incredibly foolish. This is just a disc based version of the next season patch. The patch itself, while juicy, is still going to be free for everyone else. You may have saved a buck or two on the DLC due to the bundle, but you should expect to save money when you are buying a game two years after the release...

However, you gotta hand it to Capcom's marketing team; they may end up selling this game to all the people that held out and now get to feel (undeservedly) savvy for doing so.

You know whats gonna happen. People who bought the base game and at least one of the season passes are gonna get screwed and cant upgrade or will be forced to buy the other season pass which costs as much as 'Ultimate' Edition.

Same shit happened with R6 Siege and Battlefront 1.

What do you mean?

It's a free update for existing users.

but with the update would they not just be missing the characters they did not get?

not sure what your getting at?

So can you play through the different game stories in arcade mode as any character or is it just separate story modes with predefinded characters like in MvC:I etc?

This seems like a great way to jump in. Optimistically, this means more ways to earn Fight Money to balance out that awful economy they've got going on.

Hope that comic book artwork isn't what will actually be used in the endings. There's been such a low bar for these things since Street Fighter IV. Yuck.

Current SFV players = people who own the vanilla game. It's not referencing AE purchasers.

I don't get why people would think this. If this were the case then why would Capcom even bother releasing the new package next year? People could buy the current game for cheap and receive everything.
LMAO well I know who to not pay attention to.
