Street Fighter V: Champion Edition - Luke Gameplay Trailer

I hope other new SF6 characters have more creativity to their moveset than Luke; not saying he's a weak character but I can definitely see:

*Sean's Shoryuken (and non-EX versions seem to have consistency of his in 3S, aka not very good unless as combo enders)
*Sean's flip kick/Ken's flip kick (CvS2)
*Urien's shoulder tackle
*Abel's running command grab (not a command grab in Luke's case)
*Balrog & Ed's punching style.

Moveset-wise he just seems all over the place. I get he's meant to be their MMA guy, but maybe his moveset should've more clearly been inspired by a single character or two and then build off from there with a few more original techniques thrown in there. I've actually warmed up to his visual design, even if it's a bit busy in some areas (the tattoos for example, there's too many of them between the arm, chest and forearms IMO), but his moveset I'm more lukewarm on.

Again, not viability-wise, but in terms of creativity. He does seem to have a lot of forward movement with his normals but I'm also having a hard time seeing what's really "the future" in terms of SF6 gameplay here versus SFV. If it's just about forward-moving normals then SF3 already did that. I can see his V-Trigger command grab Just Defend-like evade being a cool feature for SF6 tho, so it would be neat if more of 6's roster had it and they could adjust grapplers to compensate i.e having more combos that can lead into command grab cancels or links.

Hopefully there won't be a SF6. This horrible characters designs needs to end.

SF Alpha 4 ftw.

Great looking character, very cool animation set. Buch of cry babies just insecure when they see a straight white male with blonde hair like myself :messenger_beaming:

Street Fighter has a bunch of blondies as it is though. In fact, my first impression of the character basically is "We doing that whole thing with Alex all over again?"

I mean, yeah, Alex is modeled more after wrestlers than MMA, but I feel like there's still too many similarities in the protagonist archetype they're doing there. Well, at least III had loads of other more creative characters, so I'm not treating this as foreboding for the entire potential VI cast, just not the best showcase character for it.

This game has too many characters and that is why so many of them are generic like this.
This does not instill confidence in the next set of original characters.

SF Alpha 4 ftw.
Perfect character for Generic Fighter 5 - Generic Edition, Luke, the generic.
Seems we have more generic 'haters' who never played the game, or at least not this character.

He has a unique and fun way to use the V-Trigger bar/V-Timer: it fills automatically with time or when you hit, and empties when getting hit or when using specific attacks. Also has a unique mechanic of throw escape hitting the enemy that offers different combo options, it's a rushdown character with target combo but also has good shoto stuff like good fireballs and antiair. And well, as usual with a good combo potential.

Regarding his looks, he goes for the MMA fighter stereotype that as I remember still wasn't used in Street Fighter, even if several characters are supposed to use MMA as fight style.

Street fighter v is the only game I play as much as I play smite lets get that fact out of the way. Secondly his look is as generic as ken was in the original SF2 roster. His move set is also not as original as you want to make it seem when I know two of his moves are directly ripped from two other SF3 third strike characters. As far as his original abilities such as the throw combo counters that you mentioned while also having Sean's uppercut and Remys fireball only better and his stim free wall bounce mechanic he's a good example of what not to do when introducing a new character as the power creep is real with him. He's not op but he's too good at everything. While also being very vanilla. Design wise he's on the same level as the Jedi from fallen order…. If he wasn't so good I wouldn't remember Luke's name either.

He looks like is what capcom "think" appeals to an American audience. Cocky blond MMA looking guy. His playstyle when explained does look interesting and unique though and that matters far more to me. I want to see more deep interesting playstyles going forward.
