Yeah, that's pretty lame. For people who like to play a variety of characters it's not really convenient. Also, it takes some of the strategy out of picking good match ups based on your opponents choices. Oh well.
Yeah it's total crap, the versus/training mode traditional stage and character select is the best part of the game and it doesn't even exist for online battles, survival, or anything else.

I don't know what's going on but I can't get an online match, casual or ranked. I just wait and wait for a match and nothing. In the 2h I tried, I got 3 matches.

You can turn on character and stage select when making a battle lounge.
You could never do this online.

You can't see what your opponent picks in ranked anyway. If you're into casual sets you can opt for character select in your lobby.
The system is good. Find match up -> load fight
Vanilla SF4 let you see who your opponent was picking

Most of the time its succesful! Working on execution and getting non-stone age internet.Sadly this isn't like a third strike parry as it's recovery can leave you open. (Can't recall exact frame data)
It's great for snatching projectiles and spam from chun-li, nash, ken etc. and making them close the gap.
Takes practice like anything in this game but it's a worth tool especially when parrying a jump in. Most of the time I can chain into cr. MP xx Hadouken/Shoryuken and it feels damn good.
Next time you get a spammer get a few parries in.

Is anyone else getting extremely long black screens before and after an online ranked match. Seems like it started yesterday; they weren't always this long. It's starting to get a little annoying as I'm running out of things to do while waiting for the black screen to end.

Just logged in today and been waiting 45 minutes for a match, got one and it was laggy as shit, it drops and my fight money goes to zero. If you're gonna have servers this goddamn broken, you need to release fucking single player modes that don't shit themselves when the servers go down. This is unacceptable.
I cant remember what I ate yesterday let alone what a videogame was like 8 years ago ;_;

Quick question... Can you unlock all the alt colors through a hard run? Or are they given out separately through each difficulty?
Used my CA while Ryu was in the air and before a second passed he suddenly hit the ground and blocked... Just... What the fuck.

I thought Super did as well, that was the last Street Fighter I played before this. Could be wrong, but somehow I remember picking a character, seeing my opponents choice and then changing accordingly (as long as I hadn't locked on my choice). Might be old age

I'm one of those people that hated when opponents picked random, because then the fight basically didn't mean anything.
Personally, I like fighting against people who are playing at their best, with a character they intentionally selected. Fighting against someone who randomly gets Dan or T. Hawk or some character that they clearly didn't play was like a waste of time to me. Like, what do I do? Play my hardest against them? I don't know.

But I suspect this game is going to get wild in the next few months once people start deviating from how they think they should play a character and start making their own styles. That Nash video about meter stealing already put me up against a newbie trying his luck, and since I LOVE using meter as Nash, I had to get it back from him. Really made that fight more interesting than "normal" Nash players.

I'm so salty tonight with Chun Li, I've had several matches where I feel like I know my character better yet I still get a beat down. Whenever I'm trading blows with opponents they always get the life lead, and I have no idea what quick/fast normals I can throw out to make distance or cancel them out aside from jabs. I know I can easily give up and go back to Ryu to get my win count back up, or pick other characters like Necalli or Birdie which sound easier to pick up. I just don't want to lose my progress I made in learning her so far...
