Maybe Necalli? He has safe specials, good pokes, a projectile, and speed. He's obviously not an ideal choice but he fits the mid-range footsies gameplay that Rose has. I also used Rose quite a bit in USF4 and found Necalli to be a good fit.
His aa jab should automatically hard knockdown airborne opponents

His AA jab should combo into his DP or his V-skill.
I started with Karin.
Hard knockdown too strong
but it should land them in a perfect position for the 1 button command throw

I really should mess around with cancelling an AA jab into a trap as F.A.N.G. I tried cancelling AA jab into heavy dash but it wasn't really optimal unless you were stuck in the corner.
It's already fun when you do it with a cr.hp AA as it leads to a free pressure when they get back down.

I keep rewatching his trailer and I can't stop drooling over how amazing his animations look. Seriously, go stare at his super animation and the way he's moving around as his punches connect. Gorgeous.
But I'm still really worried about the dumbed down controls. Part of the reason I love boxer characters is because their combos tend to feel really fun combined with motions, since it sort of mimics the movement of the move itself. Just making them button presses is probably going to affect the satisfaction of landing a lot of his combos.

well part of the fun is also the rhythm of the buttons in the combos
none of that applies in the same way in sfv now of course

Season two is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Street Fighter by including one character with ties to each of the Street Fighter subseries.
II - Akuma
Alpha - Abigail (following in the footsteps of fellow Final Fight bosses Sodom and Rolento)
EX - Garuda
III - Kolin (first appeared as Gills servant)
IV - Ed (first appeared in Roses ending in IV and then Balrogs ending in SSFIV)
V - brand new character (the female silhouette)
Im also kind of hoping that well get Sagat as a surprise SFI representative.

A lot of SneakerSO's comments are making me think that a classic character might just show up outside of the Season Pass, most likely Sagat.

But he's still his own character, and his physical stats are different even tho that obviously doesn't show.
I don't think Sneakerso knows anything. He puts out a lot of obvious hint, and he was dead wrong about when Ed would be show. Can someone link me to something he said that was right on the money? Like before anyone else said anything.

Well Abigail is taller than Hugo and has over a hundred pounds on him. They just just wanna make a massive mountain of a character, with hopefully some interesting shit going on. I do think Edi E would have been interesting using a gun to zone and shit, the rest are whatever.
Idk that Ryce theory, I don't think Alpha I think Final Fight. Capcom has had a Final Fight new comer since the Alpha games too.

Also in the Ed trailer at 0:28, his air-to-air left him in a PRIME juggle position to follow up with damage. FINALLY more characters that can do that.
