Sudden PS2 Weirdness - A Sign Of Bigger Problems Ahead?

So you know how depending on how much stuff you have on your memory card, it'll affect how many blocks you see when booting up the PS2? Well all of a sudden, I only see the baseline amount of boxes (very few) when turning the system on, even though I have two memory cards jam packed with stuff. When this first happened, I went "Oh shit, all my saves are gone!' But I checked and they're all there, and nothing (seems) broken.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be worried?

Naw, I have never had more the 5-10 boxes during boot and both my memory cards are full. My friend however has a full memory card and I see around 20-30 boxes when he boots his memory card. I think your good man.

It does?? I did not know this...

My machine does this from time to time too, I've never noticed any problems though. I've always wondered if it was a combination of how much is on the cards as well as whether the machine has been turned off or put on standby.... but I've never cared enough to investigate.

This happened to me early last year when I was playing BOF Dragon Quarter.

The stone garden was wiped (that you see in the boot up sequence) out but nothing happened to the memory card or the system

I actually thought they were related to hours of play not number of saves.? I also did not think they were related to the memory card but rather the PS2 itself but I may be wrong.

It seems to be that each block is one game and each grows in height as that game is played, but mine almost always end up erasing every few new games, so I'm not sure.
