I disagree that Gurren's story is simple or well told. Also, the animation might be good, but the mecha designs are terrible. Add that to action that is so over the top that it undermines itself and the show doesn't even look that good.
Yes, Gurren's mech designs are messy and awful to look at. They visually make zero sense at that makes them unpleasant for me to look at them. I don't like a singl mech in that show.
Gurren is a simple story well told. It also has some of the best animation out of the last decade and inspired countless internet nerds to photoshop dumb looking shades onto their avatars. I like madoka, but it doesn't measure up to TTGL, at all.
Aside from the cheap looking art that was actually pretty good. The characters seem fun and they could have a nice dynamic going forward. I wish the show looked like the art in the ED. I'll keep watching though

Gurren Lagann's story is VERY simple, as at it's core it's the basic Hero's Journey storyline. Kid from low standing rises up to become a hero. Kamina was the mentor character, like Obi'Won Kenobi or Dumbledore.

You can boil down most stories like that. Just because it follows the Hero's Journey doesn't make it simple overall. I'd say, Gurren is way overcomplicated and nonsensical when you dig down into the details of the story.
I actually like the StarMan mech, but the Gurren Series of mecha and the other one in that photo are good examples of everything wrong with the mechanical design.
I can only speak to my experience, but as someone who typically HATES shows with Madoka's art style (and really dislike the style in the show itself), the amount of sheer buzz it got from the general community is what sold me on giving the show a shot. Very, very few shows get the kind of buzz Madoka did. It really speaks to the quality of the story telling that it managed to hook me despite my initial disposition to hating it based on the art.
Or the fact that 90% of the story after that early initial twist is utter nonsense.
I try to think about Shinn Asuka as little as possible. But if I must be forced to admit that Shinn Asuka is a character in a show, then yes, he's horrible. Probably still worse than Suguha, but only because he's in the show longer.
In terms of awful Gundam protagonists: Shinn > Flit > Setsuna > Kou.

I think that's symptomatic of the various homages toward eras of the genre. You have these silly looking robots that represent form over function that slowly give way to other styles as the series progressed. The Gurren stuff looks increasingly out of place becaause it is as things went along because it's this representation of a bygone era.
Who the hell do you think you are, callin' my mech a banana?! That's KING KITTAN-SAMA to you! Learn to show some respect!

Futari wa Precure Splash Star 41
So yeah, we now have
villains coming back from the dead
. Not that I mind, since it's pretty fun to see
Kareharn and Moerumba back after so long
, and even more fun to see
them interacting with each other, which we never got to see in their original appearances for obvious reasons
. They also seem to be
significantly more powerful than before, which I guess makes sense considering how they were revived
. I'm not sure why I'm spoilering all this, since Toei clearly don't give a shit, they showed it all off in the episode preview last time.
All the fountains are actually restored now, which is kind of cool. I was kind of expecting the final fountain's restoration to be prevented somehow, or else one or more of the other fountains to be re-stolen. But no, all the fountains are now in top form. It's just the World Tree that still needs reinvigorating. And sadly, there's no way of doing that without
the Fairy Carafe, which Gohyarn has now appropriated for his own nefarious purposes
. So fountains or no fountains, things are still looking pretty tough for the Cures.
But it's not all bad! It looks like we are getting a couple of things out of the Fountain Restoration Completion! For one, Princess Filia is finally able to materialise and join the team proper. She doesn't exactly seem to be a big help, but the mascots are happy to see her, so that's nice at least. More interestingly,
Michiru and Kaoru seem to be awakening from their deep slumber in the depths of Dark Fall
! If it gets them back in action and joining the team as well, then the whole Fountain Restoration thing will have been 1200% worthwhile. Hells yeah.
