Only 4 episodes left of Summer Pockets

This has been a hell of a ride. It's vintage Key, reminds me of the OG legends especially the setting which is very reminiscent of Air

nearing the end of the season, the ones I ended up staying with ended up being, My Dress Up Darling, The Water Magician, The Silent Witch, Kaijo No 8, Apoc Bringer Mynoghra, Tsuyokute New Saga, and Shy Hero

Checked out Clevatess and I'm enjoying it.
From the character design, to the slightly darker themes and the (I assume) intentional grainy look, there's something that feels a bit retro about it, almost like some lost show from the late 90's or early 00's.

The characters and story are nothing spectacular but they have been enjoyable so far, though IMO the animation has been getting a bit worse in these latest chapters.

does shy hero and silent witch get any better? Seemed very average

4K restoration of one of the best anime movies ever made. I'll be in NYC, but gonna try to catch it if I can. Can't recommend it enough if you haven't seen it.

shy hero stayed the same really.
Silent Witch did get better as it expands the politics circle a bit and teasing at who the other sages are, and the production quality is pretty above average on the animation

i need to see this, people always go about this one. one of the 90's greats i still haven't gotten around to seeing.

Anyone watching Ruri rocks? It's a pretty good CGDCT about a girl that can't get an advance on her allowance to buy some crystal jewellery, but then her mum mentions that her grandad used to bring crystals back from the mountain path when he went foraging. She immediately goes on the hunt to find her own and meets Nagi, a mineralogy grad student who agrees to try and help her. The show itself follows Ruri as she learns about the local geology and how to find crystals using different methods.

I'm enjoying it but the weekly wait for each episode sucks balls.

My favourite of the summer season has been Clevatess.

I also am enjoying Ruri Rocks. I pause for the geology notes because they are interesting to read.

Just got back from the Demon Slayer movie. I don't think I have ever in my life seen a movie that had its pacing so ruinously annihilated by flashbacks. This is a 2.5 hour film, and I feel like a solid 45 minutes of it are flashbacks which are shoehorned in all over the place. It's doubly an issue here because incredible animation and fight choreography are what Demon Slayer does best, and it is notably less good at narrative and storytelling, so I can't help but groan when the movie keeps bringing the action to a screeching halt so it can show us Generic Anime Tragic Backstory #32.

Still, Ufotable's animation is top notch as always and the fight scenes are quite good, so if you can tolerate the constant interruptions for the sake of less compelling content, might be worth seeing.

Dude got decapitated so hard he went through 45 minutes of depression before dying.

I know it's not a summer 2025 show but I started the remake series of urusei yatsura. Pretty good. Very entertaining. I've never seen the old show. Is it worth a watch?

I saw the first few episodes of that. Didn't know the initial premise was like that.

I need to catch up on the Ranma 1/2 Remake

I really enjoyed watching theese shows and know lot of them are finishing airing their full season soon

Dandadan Season 2
Takopi's Original Sin
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2
Watari-Kun Is About To Collapse
Nukitashi The Animation

The remake is censored and has less charm. Stick with the original.

The season is wrapping up now. I stuck with Kijin and thought it was pretty good. Also watched 7th prince, gachiakuta, Mynoghra, Kaiju, Mizu, Tate and Sono. Didn't have time for much else. 7th Prince I felt flubbed the last three episodes with all the singing on repeat. Tate just did the same fight formula the whole season. The others were more worth it. Next two seasons should have a lot better stuff

It's pretty cool how they make shows doing deep dives on different hobbies. There was one about fishing a few seasons back. Not my thing, but I can see the appeal

Sorry for asking in this thread, but this question isn't worth making a new one.
Is Dragon Quest Dai worth watching?
It's 100 episodes and I don't want to waste time watching 30 or 40 and then the show turning to crap afterwards.

You know, Gachiakuta would be a lot more enjoyable if the protagonist wasn't so annoying and unlikable.
Dude is bitching or having some mental breakdown about something every fucking episode.

In the first couple of episodes he doesn't seem to have a problem, then all of a sudden he is whining all....the...time...

Grand Blue, witch watch, sakamoto days, silent witch and dandadan were my go to's this season. I have half heartedly watched a couple of others but the ones I mentioned I paid attention to.

The Demon Slayer movie is good...

It made me feel sad in some scenes. I only watched a few episodes, but I still watched it and understood most of it.

There's no Fall thread and I don't know if anyone's going to make one so this is going here

Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai shitemo Yoroshii deshou ka (May I Ask for One Final Thing?) 1-2

So clips from this have been appearing in my Twitter feed and it looked hilarious so I watched it. Episodes are streaming on Netflix Japan a week before they air on Japanese TV

The premise of this story is quite simple so they can get right to the punching. Noblewoman who looks like Saber and has the same time magic as Emiya Kiritsugu enjoys punching people. Stuff happens with the royal family of some kingdom and she punches some nobles. That causes things to happen which result in her punching some random criminals in the streets

This show is mainly about Not Saber punching people so I'm not sure the story matters much but so far supporting character Blond Prince is quite entertaining. I'm not sure which if any other supporting characters will make recurring appearances

Anyways, cute girl punches people seems to be all I need to know about this. This should be fun LMAO

Dude, I just watched this and it is pretty damn funny! Thanks for the recommendation!

Work and things are currently keeping me busy. I might have time to make the fall thread tomorrow. Lots of great stuff coming up

I'll do my usual thing of waiting until the season is over before I start watching, but I'm looking forward to Spy X Family and will probably watch One Punch Man with my nephew.

Summer Pockets

In Japan, this is one of the best selling visual novels of the past decade. It also has a reputation for being a really long VN, the vndb entry clocks it at around 50 hours in length. So the show really had to cram an enormous amount of content into 26 episodes and it shows. The pace of the story can best be described as "breathless" and you'll literally be watching Takahara Hairi go from dude who just shows up on an island knowing nothing about it or anyone to having a wife in the space of 4 episodes. He does this 4 times, because the original VN had 4 girls and 4 initial routes. (The expanded version of the VN is called Reflection Blue and adds another 3 routes, extending the length further. This show omits those routes.)

It's difficult to actually explain the story without completely spoiling it, so let's just say for now that Hairi meets cute with 4 different girls in an omnibus format where the timeline resets to him arriving on the fictional Torishima island each time, reflecting the different routes of the VN you can choose from. After this, the show adapts the two "final" or "true" routes of the original VN, titled Alka and Pocket. It dedicates exactly 4 episodes to each of 4 routes, plus the 2 "final" or "true" routes, and leaves 2 episodes at the start to cover the common Prologue. The VN also has a lengthy Common route but that is completely absent here because they just didn't have the time. 26 episodes. Neat. Easy. Also completely rushed and at a pace which defies description except if you've ever seen anime adaptations of VN's which cram 40 hour stories into 13 episodes and the result is total hash

Despite the meth tier pacing, I greatly respected the people who worked on the show (with Key's input) for doing their absolute best to fit as much of the relevant story into the show. It's rare to see a VN to anime adaptation where you can tell they really tried and really did their best. The people who made this show had their episode count and they made it work to the extent they could. There have been complete abortions of Key VN adaptations (Rewrite springs to mind) and then there's just original stuff that obviously had enormous amounts of content cut to fit into a running time (Charlotte, take a bow) and this is not one of them

Oh right, so this is a Key VN. If you know what Key is, then you know what this is about. If you don't know what Key is, well you've probably watched Angel Beats! so you know what Key is but you probably haven't thought about it in a long time. This one is absolutely vintage Key, it makes you think of the "Big 3" (Clannad, Kanon, Air) in all the good ways. You'll laugh at slapstick humor, you'll bawl your eyes out during the emotional parts, and you'll be slightly confused by the random supernatural elements which are introduced partway through the story to string the story together. And then it's over and you feel sad because you remember your childhood and how much better you had it then

Final Rating (1 to Key, where 1 is not Key and Key is Key):

100% Pure Key

I guess I'm gonna make My Status as an Assassin exceeds the Hero as my one wish fulfillment isekai for the season quota

hey guys, I need some recommendations

My nephew turns 18 this week and he's got severe autism and developmental problems... his therapist has recommended he gets deeper into his hobbies and interests to help reduce his anxiety over starting college soon and I was going to buy him some games and box sets he can take with him since he wont have the ability to stream.

I've got the games sorted, but I don't know shit about anime which is his newfound passion, it's not my genre at all. He has the box set of the Deathnote series and has watched it back to back 10 times over. What are some similar shows I can get for him? I guess I am asking for like the top 5 series / shows / films in the genre that are darker themed and more adult.

You can't go wrong with series from Shounen Jump.

If he likes Death Note, Demon Slayer might be a good option.

These series are not really dark, but have amazing action, Gurren Lagann (the tv series) and one punch man season 1.

Darker adult themed. Kind of a wide variety in that one. Evangelion is good, but like Goblin Hunter is pretty far on the dark fantasy spectrum. Mid range maybe RE:Zero is between those maaaaybeeee?

Full metal alchemist BROTHERHOOD. might be one he'd enjoy. I would say that might be lighter than Evengellion. It's real hard to recommend anime to someone that you don't know. I like Another, Lain is a bit older.

Edited to make a bit more sense BG3 is robbing me of my sleep...

Re:Zero is not dark?
It's dark but I would say in between FMA:B and Goblin Hunter. As someone mentioned above, Demon Slayer might be good call for him. It's tough because DeathNote is completely psychological whereas Demon Slayer has a ton of action.
