One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Are you not the primary demographic for GGO Kirito?

I am indeed, but the main characters look like Beatrice and Hime-sama from PriPri.

If it was GGO: Legend of the Legendary Androgynous Dark Gunslinger, I'd be all over it.

The tall chick on the right of that GGO poster looks LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.

She needs to go back into character creation and turn down that torso length slider. Sheesh.
Finished Made in Abyss. Uncomfortable ass show, in ways I rather it not be uncomfortable (Even in the damn last episode...), but no denying that it was definitely well made, and had a very intriguing setting. Last episode also brought the feels.

Guess I'm ruin my mood by reading this now, judging by some of the posts I've seen about what comes after where they are in the anime.

Riko still sucks btw
Made in Abyss Episode 13

WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

My heart could not take this episode.
I really want to see a season 2 of the anime just to see how people react to what comes next.

I honestly didn't think it could get much worse, but the author proved me wrong. Oh, did they prove me wrong...

I think you missed those pyramids on her chest because you would've commented on them otherwise.

I overlooked them on account of her being... more modestly endowed than a lot of other anime chicks that get stuck in boobsock outfits.

It's just so common at this point that it's not even worth commenting on, really.

W00T Alicization! So excited. It will probably be 3 cours at least. Most likely 4 cours split up in half a la Gundam 00.

Sword Art Online- Ordinal Scale

Is this even worth my time writing up a detailed review analyzing what's so garbage about this movie from a production, storyboarding, photography, or narrative standpoint? I can, if the demand is high enough, because right now I'm somewhat pissed off enough. However what's the point as people already know where they stand on this shit.

When you bite a turd sandwich, is it the sandwich's fault if you take a second or third bite?

It's a pretty bad movie that has pretty nice Sakuga. =P

I think it's a really good movie honestly. It sets out to do exactly what it wants to and appeals successfully to the core demographic very well. All without wasting time or effort on things that won't matter to those who will like it and won't change the minds of those who don't.

It's the perfect example that entertainment isn't art but a commercial product designed to succeed - and does.

It's not even storyboarded well enough for you to make that argument. There's multiple times where the director will draw the camera out and by doing so will rob any scene of emotional impact. It's a piss poorly directed movie.

I mean, you say that, but it clearly isn't accurate if fans love it and it had emotional impact for them. None of those words mean anything outside of some abstract snobby personal critique anyway. For you, it was a piece of shit, for many others it was exciting and fun popcorn entertainment with beloved characters and cool battles.

Popping back in here because I had to at least give my thoughts on the finale to one of the most enjoyable anime in several years.

Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters 52:
It was a really touching and beautiful finale, with some really weighty moments. I wasn't ever expecting to see a dilemma quite so strong in a Digimon anime. I mean, seeing the main character have to decide to
kill his best friend in order to save the world (even though Yuujin then kept Haru from having to shoulder the burden himself by being the one to end his own existence)
is unbelievably dark, even by the standards of a franchise that had Digimon Tamers and the Konaka written episode of 02. The ending was all in all really expertly done, and I love how much growth all of the characters showed by the end of it. With Haru deciding to become an AI researcher, and the final end card reminding the veiwer that "by 2045, AI will surpass humanity", the ending also drives home that the progress on AIs will march on, even with Leviathan's plan being stopped. You could also say that Leviathan even won by losing, since Haru is going to become an AI researcher, and presumably further AI development himself when he gets older.

As far as the final scene goes, I'm sure it will be a subject of debate among fans for years,
but as far as I'm concerned it was definitely Haru daydreaming/an illusion. He rubs his eyes and yawns right beforehand, and the lighting in that final scene seems kind of dreamlike to me. But they definitely wanted to leave it ambiguous so that people who want to think that Yuujin came back to life can believe that.

All in all, Appmon wound up being one of the very best seasons of Digimon. I think it surpassed Adventure for me, putting it just behind Tamers and Savers, and this is definitely one of the best kids anime in quite a long time. I know a lot of people didn't ever even check the show out, but I really think it's worth giving a shot to at some point. Appmon definitely has its warts, with its pacing being one of its biggest flaws at times (although having seen the whole series now, I get why they structured it the way that they did), but its highs were really incredible, especially these last few episodes.

One Piece 807-808 hour long special

Toei exec: We need to line up a One Piece special to go with our Dragonball Super Special. I know, the Sanji vs Luffy "fight" is coming up
Toei worker: But there clearly isn't enough material to cover to make that into a one hour special
Toei Exec: Don't worry, just make over half the special a recap
Toei Worker: But then why even make it a special? And are there even enough relevant scenes to recap for that?
Toei Exec: Just recap a few of the scenes multiple times. Hell, I bet you can fit the scene with Luffy asking Sanji to be his cook into the special like 5 or 6 times easy
Toei Worker: This seems like a horrible idea that will only alienate the fans of the series
Toei Exec: Fuck the fans I want money
Toei Worker: Can we at least get a decent animation budget to work with to make the episode as a whole look nice?
Toei Exec: You can get enough budget for about 3 minutes worth of decent animation
Toei worker: But...
Toei Exec: 2 minutes of decent animation. Now get to work

I thought it had an interesting premise that was bogged down by bad scenes, too much fanservice, and a villain that was a joke.

SAO is a love story.

Well yeah, but still.

A mass murderer is getting praised in it.

Think about it, name one time in Sword Art Online where Kayaba's name is said with scorn and hatred by anybody.

The show keeps finding ways to make this guy seen as some kind of benevolent figure, and nobody in the show ever wants to be the guy to bring up the fact that 4000 people are dead because of him.

Can't argue with popularity. That's why *checks* Avatar is the greatest movie of all time.

The best part is that not even Kayaba actually knew why the fuck he did any of it. He literally set up a death game that killed thousands for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHATSOEVER

Have you heard of the All Blue?

At least that one kick looked nice. And we got a bit of BroCho/Carrot shenanigans

This is an emotional scene in the movie right?
The villain is lamenting the loss of his daughter and his own responsibility in her death. How does the visuals reflect this in any way? The camera is zoomed out instead of focusing on the character's face so it creates a feeling of detachment to the viewer. We don't see any detailed emotions on the actual character's face which as a result makes it harder to empathize with him. Nothing else, such as colors, tries to impart any emotions onto the audience either. There's at least half a dozen similar cases in the film like this. Here's another example:
Here's a scene where Kirito is pissed off and supposed to be emotionally charged. Notice how far back that camera is from the person talking. The voice actor is delivering those lines with the conviction Kirito is feeling. As the director it seems like you would want to match that seriousness and anger on screen as well.
Here's a followup image for more context. Still look at how far back that camera is.

Finally got around to watching that Netflix film adaptation of Death Note. Overall it wasn't that bad, but they took far too many liberties to bring it in under 2 hours. Light was only smart when it came to the end of the film, which was too little too late. L was L for the most part, outside of that ridiculous chase scene at the end. Mia and Ryuk were actually really good for different reasons.
Mia basically taking Light's role from the manga as a psychopath was actually something I didn't expect and felt worked.
Willem Dafoe was real good as Ryuk tho.

SAO is a love story.

SAO should be classified as a hate crime against the whole of humanity.

I hear this next arc ditches the "Girl of the Arc" format that the previous SAO arcs had and Kirito's partner this time is actually going to be another dude.

If they break away from the damsel shit, it might actually be tolerable.

Either way I will be watching it.

I wasn't being sarcastic or anything, I legit enjoy SAO lol.

though not sure about the gal gun alt series.

I think season 3 is gonna have to be at least two cours.

The ride never ends.

all the anime so far covers vol 1-8
the next arc is vol 9-18.

should be at least as long as the previous series combined.

I would expect at least 50 eps, wouldn't be surprised if they stretched it more.

Oh yeah, most def. I don't begrudge anyone who legit likes the series.

I've always kind of had a hangup for how the female characters were handle, so I'm actually curious how this new arc will be.

the pacing oddly was the main reason I stopped watching Tamers. It was pretty slow, but the Digital world stuff really dragged more than I expected given that I don't give a shit about Takato's shitty extras (not Juri)

I've never really taken to SAO outside of those first 12-13 episodes or whatever. I'm actually 'more' interested in the Gal Gun series since that's perhaps a chance for a 'fresh' start with wider appeal. I'll at least check out the first episode just to see.

If you knew it was going to be trash, you shouldn't have watched it. Having said that...

I dunno about that. I mean, I think it's a good thing to remember that art, even commercial art, is highly subjective. If it's touching the fan base, the people it set out to please, it has to be doing something right. We can belittle and disapprove of their tastes all we want, but the facts of the matter are that it is succeeding, even if not by conventional, critical accepted artistic standards. I'd actually be interested in someone watching the film and trying to understand why, despite it's conventional artistic failings, what it's managed to do to appeal to its base so well.

This makes me want to cut myself. It's literally making the argument that it's not worth thinking about things.

That argument's been used in this thread for quite a while.

"Just enjoy it for what it is"
"It's still something to see"
"It's just entertainment"
"I watch it with my mind turned off"
