it's old. They're running a test of it nearby where I live (Newton, MA, I think?). They run fiber to the curb in front of your house (many people mistakenly believe they run fiber optics directly to your house - they don't) - which you have to pay for. But once you do, your bandwidth is insane. I believe they also include an HDTV-type service with it. Google Verizon FIOS for more info.

He lives in europe, I don't think the broadband prices are as heinous there.

That's way better than what I get from Comcast for $42.95 a month. And installation is free on one computer. I may have to look into this over the summer.

I pay 50-60 bucks a month for "4 mbs" that usually runs at ~ 1.5 and thats the fastest thing I can get. It sucks.
