Super Mario Bros.: The Movie isn't that bad

I just finished watching it, and after getting past the Mario connections, the movie's actually not bad at all. It has some neat costumes, neat animatronic stuff, and Dennis Hopper. John and Bob do pretty well with what they were given too.

When I was like three, I used to walk up to the toilet and I was just tall enough to lay my dick on the lip of the toilet and go pee without hanging on to it. One day the toilet seat fell and smashed my poor peeper. That was less painful than watching the entire SMB movie.

I enjoy it for what it is, but this is a masterstroke of hilarity.

Mario Mario: This can't be Manhattan.
Luigi Mario: I don't know, I haven't been to Manhattan in a couple weeks.
Mario Mario: Must have been a bad couple of weeks.

It's terrible.

But just because it's bad, doesn't mean it's not also entertaining. It's a good bad film. I enjoy watching it, but that doesn't make it not terrible by any stretch of the imagination.

I remember being so hyped for this as a kid. My dad must have looked like this after the showing:

Terrible film.

Dennis Hopper should have use the line from Blue Velvet with Daisy.

" LET´S FUUUUCK, I´LL FUCK ANYTHING THAT MOVES!. HAHAHAHAHAHA "

No, it's fucking bad.

I just want to point out that while you may have good reason to think it's bad, that argument has nothing to do with the quality of the film and everything to do with authenticity to its source material :v

EDIT: It's certainly got a lot of its value from "so bad it's good" stuff, but I feel that people overlook some of its neat things just because it's such a bad Mario flick.

Without the Mario connections its a kind of average run of the mill 90s adventure flick, with the Mario connections its an enjoyable bizarre trainwreck.

Did you guys know the internal name for the artstyle of the movie was "The New Brutalism"? Its so hilarious to me someone saw Mario Bros on the NES and went "You know what this needs? A take on new york so gritty and surreal we have to come up with a new term for it - get me the Max Headroom people!"

in retrospect an acid trip 90s steampunk mario is kind of cool in its own way

you really cant do live action mario without being absurdly bad so may as well go all out right

I have to admit, I still get excited when I see the poster. I know what it is, but I can't help it. Lil' me was all over this movie.

Same with the first TMNT. That was actually pretty good, though.
