Nope. Galaxy 1 received massive upgrades as well:

That thread was about galaxy 1. But good to know it was fixed/not true/whatever.

Since people on Neogaf like to always bring up playing it through emulators as superior, i hope they post some images of a modded Wii Rom version with texture upgrades for comparison.

There ARE some texture changes that some may not like, but these are artistic choices, not technical downgrades.

comparing compressed YouTube captures to direct feed? :pie_thinking: . We've been over it time and again and still get nowhere and everyone forgets every time. It's exhuasting.

I get it, but even with Youtube compression, there were a lot of details that seemed to be omitted entirely from previous shots. The fine details, sure, but there were obvious, obvious problems from what we'd seen previously.

Have you not played it? What does 'zero new changes' mean? You mean, other than Yoshi, the different Yoshi abilities, and all the new power-ups for Mario, and every level being new and not repeated? If we're arguing here it can't be anything other than semantics.

it's still the same core gameplay

Mario core gameplay doesn't change, other than in Sunshine. He jumps, he climbs, he kicks/ spins, he collects coins/ other things, he leaps... 🤷‍♂️

are you one of those players who never use the actual movement abilities?
because I can't see how you could say that if you actually use all the mobility options of each 3D Mario game... they play completely differently from eachother, all of them. except Galaxy 1/2

Yup. Basically what Xbox did for their first party games on One X and XSX. But Nintendo and free patches like that.......

When hell freezes over.

Xbox did that as a desperation move to try to coerce more customers to buy into their ecosystem. It didn't work and they've now abandoned that initiative.

Galaxy 2 is essentially a level pack for Galaxy. it was originally concepted as a DLC
Such weird takes.

When did you start playing games? You ever seen Mega Man 1-6 on the NES? Each of those were 40-50 bucks at launch. So about 100 dollars each in today's money. And they were hugely popular, and people didn't bitch and moan about reused sprites and animations, or the fact they all had the same setup.

Do you whine about TV shows that basically use the same formula from episode to episode and have the same actors? Movie series? Yes, games that make new content in the same style tend to get an additional number tacked onto the end. Because they are sequels, and it's totally normal. What would you suggest when people want more of a winning formula? Same thing for people complaining about Ghost of Yotei. It's a sequel.

just playing the game at 4k without any mod and its already miles better than the original game ( this is a decade old video )

allow me to point out that they prominently added her round teal earring, not visible in the original

which even more strongly aligns it with the hint that she's Rosalina's mother

Maybe they're trying to hint that, or maybe they just tried to make the castle more consistent across its appearances. The stained glass had the large teal earrings in Super Mario 64.

Either way, I always considered Peach her mother, even when I first played at release; the focus on those earrings (and glimpse of hair style) as the only traces we see of her in the book is too direct to be ignored.

Wrong, its just a res problem

time stamped for you, you can clearly see that the earring is there, hidden behind the star and that why i think Nintendo kill their art direction by doing weak ass hardware that cant deliver clear image quality ( at least in the past two decades )

I'm not that intimate with the story but for whatever reason I would have assumed it was the other way around, Rosalina being this cosmic being with a wand that hangs out with stars, and Peach needing her dress to pull off a brief float move. Just my take.

Have they? I guess it remains to be seen when next gen rolls around and if they provide free visual/performance update patches for their Series games for the new system or not.

Let's also not forget BC and it's very cool and free features like auto HDR, FPS boost etc. again, Nintendo would never, sadly.

I mean they've officially ended their Enhanced BC program and bailed on some teased projects like the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition enhancements and instead re-released it as Gears of War: Reloaded as a paid product.

So I think it's safe to say that yeah, those days are over with.

the irony of you whining about a comment of mine that has absolutely no judging language in it.
I never complained, I never whined, I never said anything bad about it.

Galaxy 2 is one of the best games ever made... but, from the perspective of 3D Mario games, it is essentially a level pack. because it has the same exact core gimmick, the same exact moveset, and the same exact feel, in a series where all of these things usually change on a per game basis.

so, stop being a whiney bitch about a completely innocuous comment 😘

On the one hand, they officially ended that program. On the other, a while back they posted a job listing for people "passionate about game preservation".

I would call it inconclusive though, because the next Xbox hardware is likely to be a PC that can play the past Xbox catalog (or else it would just be a large ROG ally). That's not necessarily a case-by-case BC upgrade program though, it could just as well be about tackling the engineering problem of making the entire existing One/Series catalog BC in one shot, that is, no further games. Many of these games already have FPS/res as high as your box will allow, so there's potential there even if they make no changes.

This actually makes for an interesting opportunity to compare.
