Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Switch 2 vs Wii Direct Comparison

Really looking forward to this! If I have to pay this much to actually play good games, and quite old games because most new games suck, then so be it.

At least I won't need to use motion controls so, huge win across the board.

And if I don't have a Switch 2 they should give me one so I can enjoy it, but Nintendo Anticonsumer this and that 🙁
Not my fault as a consumer that their BC sucks dicks.

Meanwhile:

...and supports ultrawide, wiimotes, nunchuks, joycons or whatever controller you want.

There's been comparisons earlier in this thread, but the emulated version doesn't appear to be as good as the Switch 2 version.

That and "see, I can just steal it!" is not the great argument that you think it is. Yes, people can pirate games. What does that have to do with anything?

My video is with a 4k texture pack. At textures may be not better. Everything else is better.

Where the hell is anyone talking about stealing anything??? Let me guess, emulating = stealing/pirating??? 🤦‍♂️

Everything else better? No. The Switch 2 version has the updated textures, but also has re-created sky boxes, properly optimized UI and controls, native HDR, and remastered cinematics. I can't think of anything the emulated version does better.

And Yes, I'm sure everyone is ripping their legally paid versions of SMG on Wii to play these on emulators on their PCs.

Modded version can have all this plus more resolutions/ultrawide and the more proper controls with pointer and/or use of gyroscopes and accelerometers, as I already mentioned and you ignored.

Ah yes, how the majority of people get their roms/isos invalidates how the minority legally does, sure. 🤦‍♂️

Yes, I suppose if you want to jailbreak your Wii, connect it to your PC, rip the game files, install the emulator, configure it for your liking, find an acceptable texture pack, replace the texture files, find AI upscaled cinematics, replace those, find UI mods, replace those, find recreated skybox mods, replace those, configure a controller to properly emulate Wii controls, load any other mods/cheats, and use Special K or some other HDR injection tool to inject HDR… then sure, you can get something that approximates the Switch 2 version.

Or you can just buy the game and play it.

Oh and I have nothing against emulation. But I'm also not going to pretend that 95% of the people that emulate don't pirate their roms. Kudos to those that emulate legally, but virtually no one does that and we all know it.

Just for ultrawide and the proper controllers is more than worthy emulating and there are profiles to setup easily vs the potato Switch controls.

Yet you pretend that no one have "MIG Switch" and play pirated games on their Switches 1 and 2 because it is convenient for your argument that only on PC people does illegal things. 🤷‍♂️

Why would I pretend that? Why are you even claiming I pretend that? I've never claimed anything like that.

I'm primarily a PC gamer ffs lol

Some thoughts:

  • The Switch 2 version looks better.
  • Not sure if it justifies the current price.
  • Even in standard def, Galaxy is a great game.
  • Farts smell bad.

So you just wrote this:

...even claiming that I was making an argument "pro stealing" just because out of the ass nonsense/changing goalpost?? Got it.

I am curious if the controllers wil let you do the same motions as the Wiimote.
Pointer is gone. You have to aim with gyro for the starbits and Yoshi tongue, thing that is "glorious" in handheld mode. Not sure about "ball rolling" and "aquatic and flying racing" but I saw a video (from the Galaxy 1 in 3D all Stars) where the player is controlling only with the left stick. 🤷‍♂️ The "shake" is done just with a button (only thing that is not really a loss).

Yeah, that footage looks pretty excellent.

My only lingering concern is what the input lag's going to be like. I really, really hope the game feels responsive despite technically being a Switch 1 game.

Anyone know how much digital storage space will be? I'm assuming less than 5GB each, but the new textures might push it over that.
Either way I'm sure the digital versions will fit into built in storage without having to buy that super sd card thing right away.
I just found out the Switch 2 has 256GB of storage., 4X my Switch OLED.

Can't find the answer so I'll ask here. Are the full games on the cart or is this another Game Key card?
Nintendo doesn't do Game Key Cards for their published games.

If someone is worried it's a keycard, it implies they may think it's a Switch 2 game.

So it pays to note you are not actually getting a Switch 2 game on this cart. Just a Switch 1 game that needs an update to become the 2 version...FYI.

Hey does anyone know if owners of Galaxy 1 through the 3d All Stars collection will also be getting our game patched?

This being Nintendo I'm expecting NOT to but man, that sure would have been the obvious thing to do.

Such weird takes.

When did you start playing games? You ever seen Mega Man 1-6 on the NES? Each of those were 40-50 bucks at launch. So about 100 dollars each in today's money. And they were hugely popular, and people didn't bitch and moan about reused sprites and animations, or the fact they all had the same setup.

Do you whine about TV shows that basically use the same formula from episode to episode and have the same actors? Movie series? Yes, games that make new content in the same style tend to get an additional number tacked onto the end. Because they are sequels, and it's totally normal. What would you suggest when people want more of a winning formula? Same thing for people complaining about Ghost of Yotei. It's a sequel.

That's not a weird take. That is factually how Galaxy 2 started. He also wasn't whining chill.

Galaxy 2 is my favorite 3D Mario. From the beginning, I've said it's a level pack for Galaxy 1. That's a good thing, because they got the game engine, gravity, assets and polish done in 1. Then they were free to let loose with creativity and level design in 2, resulting in a brilliant game...without its own story or game concept. Better game for it.

How do I play Galaxy 2 without the IR pointer? It was miserable using the gyro for Galaxy 1 on 3D All Stars.

... what exactly is the issuenwith gyro? it's exactly the same, you just have to recenter it from time to time.

the Switch 2 joycons are better at keeping their orientation tho, so you don't have to recenter as much probably

Just ordered off of Amazon. The money I am saving by getting rid of game pass for the next few months at this new ludicrous price is funding this game. Most of the garbage on there can't stand up to these two games anyway. Yes, I'm still salty about it.

I'm of the same opinion.
I had some issues with Metroid Prime Remastered until I found a controls' setting that made recentering much, much less needed (and what really made recentering necessary most of the time was switching from morph ball to first person, anyway). I barely had problems playing Mario Galaxy on the Switch, and virtually zero issues playing those parts people are mentioning that required motion controls. I actually had the impression that those sections controlled even better, but it's been too long since I've played the Wii version, so I can't swear on it.

And to be fair, while playing Skyward Sword on the Wii, I had to recalibrate the pointer way more than I had to in the Switch games I've mentioned above. Imagine if they hadn't made the Wiimote Plus.
