Super Meat Boy 3D Announced - Early 2026

This looks awesome. I'm a huge Meat Boy fan, so I'm definitely looking forward to this!

I hope its just as difficult as the original game, because that was a huge draw for me. Super hard platinum run that was, but super satisfying.

Looks good. Unfortunate that McMillen isn't involved but apparently he's in the abyss these days.

After Meatboy's last outing, where McMillen was also absent, it's hard to get excited for this. I also don't think they translated Meatboy's style over well to 3D from what was shown and let's not talk about the music.

Looks fun. I don't know if it will have the same charm as the original though. The music is underwhelming as well, but I'm here for it either way.

The music reminds me of when the original SMB soundtrack was replaced for the rerelease.

Exactly what I was thinking, and goddamn that new soundtrack just....well ....let's just say I went back to the classic release. That original OST was a much larger part of the original's charm than I think any of us really realized.

It was dreadful and to your point, should be a case study on how important a game's soundtrack is to a game's overall presentation.

Once upon a time, I was close to the world record for speedrunning Super Meat Boy. I had a lot of downtime in grad school, and that's where it led me, I guess.

I came into this thread expecting nothing, but that was not what I got. This looks fucking great. A crack-addled take on Mario 3D World in the same way that Super Meat Boy was a crazy take on 2D Mario.

I am very excited.

Also, since the original game's music already came up - y'all need to stick to the PC version. They redid the soundtrack for later console re-releases, but the PC game (at least, the DRM-free one that Humble sells) gives you the option of the original 2010 soundtrack or the new one. The OG is classic, obviously, but I actually think the redone music is pretty excellent outside of the first world (which feels a little off until you get used to it).

Loved the original, even if it was rage-inducing frustrating at times...until the level clicks and you feel on top of the world.

This better have TIGHT controls.

What do you mean by the abyss? I know he's talked before about struggling with his mental health. Is he still going through a tough time?

I don't know him, so just going by publicly available info suggesting that he's had a lot of struggles over the past decade leading to unfinished projects et al.

Here's a recent interview:

Hope he's doing better lately.

Check out 15 minutes of gameplay from the just-announced Super Meat Boy 3D, the upcoming super-tough platformer that takes the popular meat-based platformer and adds a literal extra dimension to it. Super Meat Boy 3D will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S (including day one on Game Pass) in early 2026.

Damn, the gameplay is looking GREAT so far. Better than I expected if I'm honest. The movement at least looks like it feels every bit as responsive as 2D Meat Boy, which is a serious triumph in a 3D conversion.

But man… that music is so bad. Like, it's actively, offensively bad. It sounds like royalty free music. It's antithetical to what Meat Boy should be.

Hopefully I can just turn the music off and listen to the original Meat Boy OST on headphones.

I had to turn the video off because of the music a few minutes in. I don't think they've translated the visual style of SMB all that well into 3D and the level layouts almost look like they were designed in Minecraft. I'd be curious to see some of the later levels though. Something also seems off about the movement...maybe the speed is a bit slow.

Looks pretty good, but that Super Meat Boy Forever endless runner was a piece of shit so no day one for me. And yeah the music is bad. I can respect that they thought they did everything they could with the 2D concept in Super Meat Boy, but 3D platformers are less interesting to me.

That looks fantastic, but somehow it's not what Super Meat Boy is to me. Super Meat Boy was this ultra focused experience where your path is crystal clear, and you just have to tap at the right moments. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.

In the 3D world the path is not as obvious, background structures and elements obscure things, it's not only tapping anymore, it's observing the geometry and route.

I absolutely loved Super Meat Boy, and there's no way I'm missing this new 3D version !
From what I've seen so far, it already looks amazing , and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if I end up loving it even more than the original.

The only game of this fake E3 I instantly put on my wishlist. Even though visual style and 3D itself might change it too much to actually be what I think Meat Boy was and must be. I need some demo or whatever to actually know if this is it.

This looks great. But i bet it's difficult and a bloody meatball is not the most likabable maincharacter. So i don't think even in a weak year like 2021 or 2024 this can be Goty material or sell gangbusters.
