Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

And if I'd like to spend between 150 and 200 euros what does the market offer to me? I'd love to being able to play both fighting games and shooting games (especially bullet hells), but I don't know if the two genres would benefit from very different types of arcade sticks or not.

Most newer bullet hells will work fine with any 8 direction joystick. I've played a lot of them, and most are designed with standard Japanese arcade levers in mind since that's where they end up. If you wanna ply older games that only support 4 way movement, you can get certain gates for most sticks anyways. It's pretty uniform what you get these days anyways, sticks ship with either Sanwa Denshi (Madcatz, Qanba, older Horis) which has been arcade standard in Japan for a long time, or newer Hori sticks ship with Hyabusa, which is some weird ergonomic lever they developed in the last couple years. If you're going BST on SRK you might run into Seimetsu sticks, which are fine as well, they tend to be a bit stiffer. The only stick you should avoid for other types of games is stuff like Korean joysticks or gateless joysticks, but those are extremely rare and don't come stock on anything as far as I know, outside of one Madcatz special edition stick I don't think you can find anymore.

Just wanted to post some updated pics in my collection, I apologize in advance for the long post =)

Here's my VLX kuro. I think I went the opposite of popular opinion and kept the kuro buttons but replaced the lever with a seimitsu LS-56. The only other things I changed were the options button to sanwa and the washer to this short clear acrylic, which I think complements the stock art as well as the diamond mesh balltop.

I then put the hayabusa into one of my TEs. Here it is ready for SFV. The turbo panel sits higher because I took it from a SE.

Finally here's my latest acquisition. As far as stock look, I think this is the best work that mad catz has ever done. Dat Noir Doe.

Still I had to mod it. I replaced the wii u pcb with a ps360+ and added a mkx xb1 pad and a hori fc4 for proper current gen compatibility. I replaced the lever with a Seimitsu LS-32 and the buttons with black seimitsu ps-14g's for a more consistent look.

I switched out the rj45 and added the dpdt switch as well. I'm debating if I will rewire to match Amedo's wiring.

Finally, here's the bottom. I love Keith Haring art. The extra acrylic feels natural due to the TE-S shape. I tried adding artwork to the bottom of my round 1 TE and it was no bueno.

I'm really digging the look of that diamond mesh balltop. Good call on the clear acrylic it really does complement the stick art, I may have to look into doing that for mine.

Thanks man. I should have wired the way you did because it makes more sense to use the dpdt to switch between ps4 & xb1 because that's what I use most. I end up forgetting what system I played last with the stick, so having to hold home for the imp and replug has not been ideal because I do it too often.

Also thanks for info on the spdt, that's way simpler than I thought. I really don't want to rewire but I guess i will.

No Problem. You don't need to follow my set-up since, I use the MC Cthulhu instead of a PS360+. With the MC Cthulhu, I still have the Imp v2's auto-detection, which will choose between the pcb (FC4 or the MK xbox pad) activated by the dpdt and the multi-console pcb.

Thanks guys! :)

I got the acrylic washer from Art, just a heads up because I know focus attack sells one too but I don't know if it's the exact same measurements. The balltop is the one focus attack sells.

Hey gang, I've got a sudden issue I was curious if anyone knew anything about -

One of my friends has 2 PS3 TE sticks from back in 2009. Tonight , as we do every week or so , we played some SF4 and upon plugging one of sticks in - the 8 red LED lights that represent what's set for TURBO and what isn't just all came on.

Nothing we did would get them to shut off and the PShome button didn't seem to work either. He even had it popped open at one point to see if there was a loose wire or something but nothing really looked out of the ordinary.

The last time the stick in question was used was actually playing MKX on my PS4 just to see how well that feature worked (you need to have a dual shock 4 turned on for each arcade stick). Thinking that perhaps the PS4 did something to the stick we also plugged it into his PS4 but all the lights still immediately got stuck on with seemingly no way to shut them off. A ps3 and 2 of it's USB ports as well as a PS4 and they all had the stick turn on but the LEDs wouldn't shut off. Even holding the turbo button in for 5 seconds did nothing and that was about the only tip I read online.

I wouldn't even consider this being a problem but it seemed like some of the buttons weren't working right either - focus attacks wouldn't work for example.

Can anyone out there tell me what might be the problem here ? Is there a loose wire? Did the USB connection on the main circuit board partially short out ? did plugging it into a PS4 somehow break it ? I just don't know.

My friend said he was thinking of calling madcatz support line tomorrow to see what they say but I figured I'd at least check here as well. I've had a very hard time finding much info about this issue so it must be fairly uncommon.

Does the PS3 te stick have two boards like the 360? If so, unplug the home board from the main board to see if the stick can function properly.

Amazon.co.uk really isn't helping with my HRAP4 order.
Ordered it on April 18 but they still haven't even shipped it and now the store page has it listed as "Temporarily out of stock."
Starting to get the feeling they didn't have any when I ordered it in the first place.
Then again of course I do not have an alternate store option. Or at least I don't know of one.

Did you ever get your stick? My friend ordered his the last week of April and I ordered mine a few days after. At the time the delivery said 'usually dispatches within 2 to 4 weeks.' He's now past his latest delivery date and they emailed him saying something along the lines of "sorry we let you down." I started a live chat with an Amazon representative on Sunday to see if I would definitely have mine on or before my latest delivery date of Wed 27th May and they said I would but I'm not feeling too confident about that now. Seems like every HORI or MCZ stick in the UK is out of stock or costs over £200. Those Venom sticks seem to be the only obtainable ones at the minute. At least before Ultra arrives on PS4.

Had my Eightarc 360 Onyx modded to work with PS4. Got rid of the 360 functionality altogether, so it's PS4 exclusive.

I wanted to take advantage of the DualShock 4 PCB's 3.5mm connector, so I drilled the stick housing and mounted an extension. I sort of wanted to mount it on the right side of the stick but there was too much going on there. This will solve the issue of chatting while playing on a stick.

Thought I'd share!

Amazing.

Getting Mega Drive vibes because of the headphone jack :p

I'm in the same boat as you are. After the Dispatch estimate passed I sent them an e-mail. These are the responses:

May 16
Hello,

I ma sorry to hear that your order [order mumber] haven't dispatched yet.

Therefore, I've now checked your order [order mumber] and found that the availability estimate for the item Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai (PS4) is listed as "Temporarily out of stock". I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused.

When an item is listed as "Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we will deliver when available" this means that it is an item that is not ordered frequently so we can't predict exactly how long it'll take us to obtain it or when we'll be able to send it to you. After you place your order, we'll do our best to get the item for you.

Please note that whilst we aim to display the most accurate product availability possible, occasionally products can go out of stock or become out of print.

In this instance, to help you better, I've now contacted our buying team about this delay and they're currently looking into it. Once we receive any update on the order status we'll let you know straight away.

I can understand that this wasn't what you expected when you placed your order and I'd understand if you'd prefer to cancel it. If you want to cancel an item or an order, please visit the Your Account link at the top of any page of our website, and then click "Cancel or Change Orders". After signing in with your e-mail address and password, you'll be able to see your order history and cancel any item or order that hasn't entered the dispatch process.

We won't charge you for an item until we dispatch it to you. We'll send you an e-mail when we dispatch it confirming the date, contents and method of delivery.

I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Did I solve your problem?

May 19
Hello,

We're still trying to obtain the following item you ordered on April 18 2015 [order number].

"Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai (PS4)"

We're awaiting a revised estimate from our supplier, and will email you as soon as we receive this information.

If you'd prefer to cancel the item, please visit Your Account on the link below:

One of our aims is to provide a convenient and efficient service but in this case, we've fallen short. Please accept our sincere apologies.

You haven't been charged for these items. We don't charge your payment card until just before your parcel is dispatched, at which time we'll send you an e-mail to confirm the payment details, estimated delivery date, contents and method of delivery.

If the order won't arrive by the time you need it, you can cancel the order or an individual item from your order by visiting Your Account, and viewing the order details. As long as the item hasn't entered the dispatch process, you'll be able to cancel it.

We hope to see you again soon.

I'm kind of getting the feeling they would rather I cancel the order but I don't really want to cancel since there are no alternatives and the price of the HRAP4 at the time I ordered it was lower than the price it's at now.

Amazon has a few Xone TE2s left at the time of writing but they are very expensive and there is still no trace of a PS4 TE2 out here.

Great work!

dredging up an old subject but i finally figured out what those rainbow things are called
they are Newton Rings. according to wikipedia

Newton's rings appear as a series of concentric, alternating bright and dark rings centered at the point of contact between the two surfaces. When viewed with white light, it forms a concentric-ring pattern of rainbow colors, because the different wavelengths of light interfere at different thicknesses of the air layer between the surfaces.

that might not ultimately be what people were seeing on their sticks but this was the first thing I thought of when I saw pictures.

So, why are sticks really hard to find in the UK? I'm looking to buy my first, but all my usual outlets don't stock them, and eBay doesn't seem to have a lot (most of it seems to be US based).

It seems to always get like this when new games come round. What kind of stick are you after and for which system?

Now that they've announced that PS3 sticks will work for USF4 on PS4, I'm considering cancelling my RAP4 order and just getting a PS3 stick from Arcadeworlduk. Does anyone know how the sharing function will work if you use a PS3 stick?

I'm after something that'll work on any PC games I throw at it. It'll be my first proper stick, and while I don't want to break the bank necessarily, I'm willing to pay for quality. Right now, I'm interested (own) Skullgirls & SF4. I enjoyed Blazblue on the Vita, and will grab them also eventually.

Any reputable UK based site & recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

You can go to these guys and you'll find a good selection of Qanba sticks. They have 2 in 1 sticks that will be 360/PC or PS3/PC compatible or they have 3 in 1s that work on all 3 systems. I order my replacement parts from their site and haven't had a bad experience with them yet.

Arcade sticks are pretty hard to find in Europe in my experience. I think it's mostly because not a lot of places in Europe have or had an arcade culture.

On top of that it's just generally hard to get arcade sticks for current gen consoles at this time.

Plenty of (if not all) fight sticks from the PS360 generation work on PC. I don't know a lot of stores which sell them though.
As mentioned before, there is http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/ They're not the cheapest but I've had good a experience buying from them. They offer Qanba and Torii sticks.

That makes sense. Thanks to both for the link - Gonna do some research now.

Don't know if we've tested that one, but I'm guessing not.

Adaptors tend to masquerade the device as a DualShock 3, which the system completely shuts out.

Hmmm... is Luffy still using a PS1 pad? I wonder if there's a solution that will work for him.

Hey folks, quick question:

The stick on my TE2 has started to squeek when I hit left. No impact in control, but it's a bit annoying. I opened it up just to see if there was any dirt on the inputs or something and everything looked clean.

Advice?

I guess we're just not seen as a priority?

But don't worry when MadCatz release some here, they'll only be 150% of the US price*. Wait longer and pay more.

*based on last gen sticks.

I've noticed the same, sticks are hard to come by in Europe, however I'm super happy about the news for PS4 Ultra SFIV supporting old sticks, means I get some hours out for my old TE2 atleast.
And means there's hope for SFV support too.

Just ordered a Type-N panel. Was going to hold off, but site said they only had a few left and I definitely wanted to have one before EVO.

Hoping the plexi that comes with this panel is better than the stock I've got in there now.

Any chance Markman still has ps4 sticks left at Combo Breaker in Chicago? I live about 30 minutes away and would drive over if they probably have some left.

Have any of you ever swapped the guts of an xbox TE with a ps3 TE before?

I have a chun-li one for xbox but would love to put my ps3 sticks guts in it cus it looks cooler.

Let me know if you get a shipping notice. i ordered on the 14th and it still hasn't shipped!

I have but in reverse (I wanted an xbox te pcb in a ps3 te). You're gonna have to desolder the usb cable but if I remember correctly everything else should swap out easy as long as you are switching everything including the button terminal strip. The PS3 pcb is the whole turbo panel. Also I really hate the red glue mad catz uses.
