Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

So I've been playing fighters a lot more since 2011, I feel pretty comfortable with the Dualshock 3's D-pad but I've been thinking about getting an arcade stick a lot lately.

However I have a dilemma, I got an Xbox One for Killer Instinct and love the crap out of it. Also, any future fighting game that is multiplatform I will likely get on my PS4. Is their any accessory that allows you to buy a last gen (PS3) stick and use it on PS4/XB1?

Or am I just better off getting the KI madcatz stick (when they're back in stock) and wait for a stick to drop for the PS4?

I have a CronusMax for my Xbox One and it works flawlessly. There is some setup when you get one and you still have to authenticate an official Xbox One controller via a micro USB cable but it's a minor inconvenience for the money you save for a lagless solution.

Lagless, just what I was looking for. Sounds pretty sweet to me. This is what you're talking about right?

I've also seen this stick recommended in several places, what's the consensus on GAF?

One of my favorite plastic sticks. Great size, great weight. The Hayabusa is my new favorite joystick. I've bought several to put them in other cases. I recommend it if you like a wider case.

Any other sticks I should consider? Would appreciate some more recommendations, won't be a few weeks until I make my choice.

still a stick, thing is detachable, i have different panels in mind too.

first time building a "cab" like thing. still needs some work, but its usable now.

screen rotates, cuz shmups.

Did you design that yourself or was it a kit? I have toyed with the idea of building something similar to the Xtension arcade cab, except using my own design so I can use nice wood to construct it.

^haha yeah, IKEA was an inspiration ngl, i tried going for a very neutral/angled look.

and its only mdf.

more of the process here.
yeah its technically "my own" design. I kinda just "went with it" and didn't do any previous measurements or extensive planning. It's fun to build, my only gripe is the paint job, it's not as perfect as I want it to be, beginner here... I'm looking into formica or vinyl wraps and see if those are viable options.

i plan to make more panels for it, first up next is sound voltex. once i get the parts needed i can start on that.

Sadly I've tried and wanted to use a fight stick but I think for now I've given up. I have two fightsticks that I bought for each of my systems (360 and ps3). The xbox 360 is a Super Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition and the PS3 stick is the SFIV Femme Fatale Tournament Edition fightstick. Why is this relevant? Because I'm getting rid of them, after having been on GAF for a few years I would rather someone get the sticks that I know would appreciate them rather than someone random. PM if you'd like more information, photos or would like to make a fair offer. The Femme Fatale has some box damage, unfortunately it was like this when I had bought it off of a friend.

I just ordered myself an arcade stick. It's gonna be a first for me. Hold me StickGAF!

I was initially looking into a custom built stick because it wouldn't be that much more expensive than a stock one but I got a great deal on a Blazblue Real Arcade Pro Stick. I'm a little weary about the seller because the price is a little too good but we'll see.

I'm going to to be buying new Sanwa buttons in preparation for USF4. Is Focus Attack still the best online store in the US to get buttons since Lizard Lick died or is there another place that's better?

I don't know about Focus Attack, linid0t is a poster in this thread who has been having issued with them.

Some guy at work is unloading a Hori Tekken 5: Tekken Tenth Anniversary stick. And I didn't see any info online on this particular stick offhand. Does it have legit parts in it? For the price its at I would nab it just for the parts, plus I have a XTokki that I could use to work it with my PC for now.

edit: Actually found some info online. Looks like buttons are soldered to the PCB and the parts are knockoffs, will probably avoid it then.

Yep, the stock internals are not great but it's a solid case, was commonly used for modded sticks for a long time.

Yeah the T5 Hori is ass. There was a different Japanese T5 Hori stick with a Sanwa lever, but even that one had soldered Hori clone buttons.

Good donor case for mods though.

My stick order was cancelled, as I feared. So I'm back to looking at custom sticks. I'm probably gonna order one from Shadaloo, I like their work.

*sigh*

I miss Lizard Lick.

I usually get stuff at Focus Attack now, and it's fine. I've ordered a bunch of stuff from them and it always arrives quickly.

damn, Lizard Lick. I remember being one of their regular customers before the surge of '09ers started wrecking their shit and they took a lot of heat for late orders and stuff. They were a cool little company. I mainly used them for American parts but Paradise fills that void just fine. Also, Focus Attack is the most professional arcade hardware distributor in the biz, yo.

Speaking of Focus Attack, just saw on SRK that they'll be at Saltfest and will have a coupon code:

"Use SALTFEST coupon code to score 10% off storewide this weekend. If you're attending, drop by table 801 Mods as they rep FA with both merch and professional mod services. You can also get a coupon code from them that's active all of June."

(of course I ordered a few days ago, and I could've saved a few more bucks cause you can now get plungers individually for mixing and matching, which is the main reason why I ordered)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I decided to bite the bullet and use FA again, since they seem to have by far the cheapest prices of any place I've come across.

And yeah, I miss Lizard Lick too :(

Howdy thread! I wanted to ask about the 'HORI Xbox 360 Real Arcade Pro VX' stick if I may. I am considering grabbing 2 of them so that my friends and I can do some authentic fighting game MP (and also so that I can dive into competitive play a bit myself, since it's a swath of gaming culture that I haven't experienced yet), but I just want to make sure that I am not making a misguided purchase. I am looking to spend ~$150 on each stick, so that's the price-point at which I would like to consider alternatives to the 'HORI Xbox 360 Real Arcade Pro VX' (sorry if it's clunky to quote the whole name). I did a bit of research, and I decided on the 'HORI Xbox 360 Real Arcade Pro VX' because of [1] the spacing between the joystick and the buttons (which apparently was problematic with past Hori sticks) and [2] the fact that the buttons are Sanwa buttons. I would just like to know whether I should consider other factors, and whether there is a better stick at the ~$150 price-point. (I should probably also mention that I am looking to buy sticks that I will not mod, although, down the road, I will probably get into modding; however, if I do get into modding, I will probably buy new sticks just for that purpose.) Thanks!

Have you played stick before? I don't think the extra gap between the joystick and buttons is something that you'd really need.

If you just want a stick with Sanwa parts, get a MadCatz Pro like Oneida recommends; it's your most cost-effective option.

I think you can probably find those sticks for quite a bit under $150 if you look around a bit. Madcatz also sells some sticks that come standard with Sanwas, have a little more space between the stick and buttons, and can be found under your budget. They're $130, and there are usually sales whenever there's a decent sized tournament going on. But I see theyre $99 on Amazon via the link above, which is as low as I remember seeing them.

If the ~$30.00 difference in price is disregarded, is this still a better purchase than the stick that I was looking at?

Haha, of course. I figured the inches-difference wouldn't be noticeable until much later, when I have spent some serious time with fighting games. Nevertheless, I would like to purchase a stick that will be unproblematic from beginning to end. Maybe I am worrying too much about foresight, but I am just a really neurotic person.

Thanks! May I just ask you the same question I asked 'oneida' above?

Personally, I don't think either one is clearly better than the other. They've each got the same stick and buttons, so they'll both feel the same when you play. I've bought both brands before (not these exact models however), and they're both pretty high quality. You can't really go wrong, so if you like how the Hori looks go for it. If you want to save a little $$$, go for the Madcatz.

Sweet, thanks. I guess another reason I have been leaning towards the Hori stick is because I have had better experiences with Hori products than with Madcatz products (although I have been hearing a lot of good things about Madcatz lately).

Thank you very much kind Sir! You just saved me $7!

Sorry for the noob question, but I'm trying to make my stick (Injustice Battle Edition) more old school MAME friendly. I'd like to replace the gate (it has a square Qanba) into a 4 and 2 way restricted, which I can then swap out when I want to play modern games. What's the best way to accomplish this. I found this triple restrictor plate which seems what I need, but I'm assuming it won't fit on my setup.

Uh, let me clear up a few things first: Qanba doesn't make levers, they make assembled sticks using either Sanwa or Seimitsu parts. From your images I assume you have a Sanwa JLF lever; the triple restrictor plate you link is a replacement secondary guide to the one that comes stock with a Seimitsu LS-32, which of course won't work with a Sanwa lever.

The stock JLF eight way gate can be configured to four way with no additional parts - just push out the center portion and rotate it 45 degrees so it's a diamond instead of a square. I don't know what's involved in making a JLF two way though.
